I am on SSDI until November 25, 2022 when Iturn 65 in November, at which time I will get retirement benefits. I received an inheritance after July 2022 and am under the asset limit. My income is below $1,700 per month, and I am currently on Medicare Savings Plan with LIS extra help. However, the asset limit for MSP seems to be $8,400, which means I am over the limit for that program. I was told that I did not have to notify MediCal since I am under the current asset and income limit and that at redetermination I should list this money. Is this true? I am nervous that I will get in some sort of trouble for not reporting this.
I applied and was accepted for a Medigap policy, which I can delay until May of 2023, at which point I would make the decision to either remain on MediCal or get better coverage, albeit for a much higher price. I was concerned that I only have this one chance to get guaranteed issue, and with my health issues, I need that. However, I. don't want to my inheritance, which has to last the rest of my life, be used for health insurance. I want the additional coverage, but at what cost?
I am not sure what to do. I was under the impression I didn't need a Special Needs Trust anymore. What would you suggest? I need some help. Thank you.

Thank you SO much for asking this question.... and I am sorry the author of this video did not respond..... May I ask what ended up happening with your NOT reporting it, as I am SO confused myself.... All the webinars on this topic say we do NOT have to report it if we are still under the Asset limit, but then they always told me i have to report ALL and ANY changes...so contradicting information.... Please let me know what you found out about this?

@@sylvie5894 I’m still confused. I have been told to let mediCal know of my new income/assets change during redetermination and not before. I went into the social services department and was told that I had been automatically renewed and did not need to fill out any new paperwork until January 2024. I didn’t know what to do, so I didn’t meet with anyone. I’m scared I will get in trouble for not reporting changes but I have MRI appointment and other test’s scheduled and I need the insurance coverage. I really am thinking of paying for a medigap plan to avoid all this stress, but at $500 per month which includes Medicare part a &b premiums, that’s about $6,000 per year. I just hate having to prove to the government how poor I am. It’s a difficult situation for me and keeps me up nights. Thank you for your comment. I hope you get some answers. It’s been a nightmare and my dad who left me this money would not have meant for me to go through this.

Thank you for your patience! If you’re in the Bay Area, in the past I believe Palo Alto Medical Foundation would keep you as a client if you were private pay and then switched to Medi-Cal. But typically not many doctors accept Medi-Cal.

Has the income limits increased as well? I have a 1550 share of cost which is 71% of my SS income. Do you think the changes as 7/1 possibly lower my share of cost?

It’s our understanding that the income limits have remained the same.
Thanks for watching the video and for asking these important questions!

Does applying for mediCAL while pregnant affect greencard application?

I’m actually not sure about this, I suggest you speak with your immigration law attorney. Good luck!

Where do I get help with my poor medical Care. Medical has not provided adequate medical Care and I can't tell you and how many ways it has ruined me. If I had a PPO I will not be in this position cancel the point where I can't even work now.

I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s true, few providers accept Medi-Cal because it doesn’t reimburse doctors very well. Ugh.
