Initial conversation was quite interesting. Speaking as a trans woman, I found what took me as long as I did to make that discovery was the fact my dysphoria was (for lack of a better term) more mild than what I’d have expected. It wasn’t this intense disgust or panic that the media often emphasizes, but was just a sort of a constant tired feeling. Exhausting. Just looking in the mirror and feeling disappointed. Not thinking that was connected to anything deeper, I just shrugged that off as “normal” feelings. In many ways, I found aspects of that initial conversation to be really similar in description to the version of dysphoria I experienced. Not intense panic, not visceral disgust, just feeling a certain gender in defining moments of clarity.
Thank u4 that thoughtful opening! I'm feeling it all, too. The sadness, the rage, the worry, etc. When I was growing up, it felt like the world was getting better cuz of Roe vs. Wade & gay rights advancing, etc. I felt like the things I was doing, such as marching in the Pride parade & other positive stands I took, were making a change. This was a super entertaining episode. Emma has this hilarious chaotic vibe that somehow feels so relatable. I actually really enjoyed hearing her talk about the openness in her relationship and how effortlessly she normalized that even people in loving and respectful relationships can/may still be turned on by derogatory talk; especially appreciated the helpful tips on how to try and broach the subject of porn.
