While I agree, I also believe that both of Geoff's wins were clearly false starts. It's just so difficult to ref arm wrestling, and due to burnout it's not like you can just keep restarting matches. Still fun to watch though

5th round leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because of all the added up fouls Bart was giving out like candy Geoff lost the match to an actual valid foul(elbow slip) on his way to recovering from Sam's monster hook. Entertaining match though! Wow

Agreed. The 4th round especially. At 15:20, that's an obvious false start by Harris.. By the time the Ref said go, he already had Hale on his side of the table.
Sometimes I think bart is a really good ref, then sometimes this happens :/ time for some new refs maybe with less personal investment

The only way that Sam Harris gets the win is if Hale literally doesn't get to start with his arm on the pad. Makes Hale start with his hand well beneath Sam's before the match even starts. At that point, Hale doesn't get to even stand a chance because he literally starts without any access to power whatsoever. Anytime he was even given a shitty position, Hale crushed Sam with relative ease. This kind of bullshit is why armwrestling isn't and won't ever become mainstream. Anyone that watches this match learns that it's all about the start and who can cheat the most.
It's not about who's stronger.
Why can't Hale get his arm on the pad then? Who's the blame for that?
@@house_greyjoy Sam's propping his arm up and giving nothing in his wrist. The reff ignores this and puts Hale's arm under Sam's, forcing Hale into a 'dad's move' position.
@@monsoon1174 Sam is suppose to do that. Sam is pulling Geoff across the table everytime he wins. This is why Hale is in the position he is in. Sam has crazy back pressure. Geoff is complaining that Sam keeps pulling back while their in the grip. And in a way I think it's normal to slightly start pulling before the initial GO. Obviously their is tension and fighting for positioning while in the grip. Watch those rounds again and tell me if their is enough evidence to call Sam's wins fouls. I've seen tons of matches that start off the same way and are not called fouls. Personally I don't like the way Sam keeps pulling back.. I can see it everytime he armwrestles but honestly I don't know If I would call them fouls unless it was more obvious and unfair advantage before the start.
@@house_greyjoy But Sam has to earn that position using his rising power. He starts with his hand risen wayyyy above Hale's hand from the get go, making the match uncompetitive. This is what makes the match so meh, especially when combined with fowls. I think it's called posting when someone does that, and you're supposed to do that, but the problem is the Ref isn't supposed to let you post a full six inches over another person's hand. It makes the leverage completely unfair. That's why the match went from Hale dominating to him being unable to do anything. That sucks to watch when the playing field isn't even close to fair. I think this is why armwrestling in general isn't that popular in the mainstream sprots environment.
@@monsoon1174 you nailed it i was honestly kinda disgusted with the early hit in rnd 4...thought fs it was gonna get called, i think Geoff just isn't WAL'S version of "marketable" so bart being bart gave sam the edge he needed, like in all sport the line that separates 1 from 2 is razor thin...hence the emphasis on fairness, any interference can change the outcome irrevocably

The refereeing in wal is so bad, i don't know if they want that for the "show" or if bart is just not good enough. Maybe both. And wtf ist this 30s strap rule all about? If someone wants the strap he can just wait for it or delay the gripping without punishment. This rule is just a complete waste of time
Philipp Andrej there is punishment if he deems it as obviously waiting for the strap. The problem is it isn’t always obvious if they’re waiting for the strap or just trying to get the better grip.
Last 3 sets ups were on Harris side.

I agree with others. Hale was robbed and the reffing job here was an embarrassment to the sport. This is disgusting WAL. And I say this as a WAL fan. The inferior arm wrestler was given the victory by the ref. Pathetic.
These jump starts are ridiculous. 2 of his 3 matches won were by clearly seen jump starts. Nothing called. I agree with you man.

Breakdown according to me:
1st pull
Geoff's game.
Power too strong and superior position.
2nd pull
Again, Geoff's game.
Too much power in combination with the very nice position on Sam.
3rd pull
Champion's response by Sam, nothing wrong with this one. Sam's game and he deserved the pull.
4th pull
Sam hits early => Jumpstart. Played the video back at 0.25x speed and Sam hits on the end of "hands" (as in "close your hands... GO!). He doesn't hit on "GO!"and that's why he got the superior position on Geoff. But the strap setup was well done from Sam. I also think that Geoff didn't expect Sam to hit so early, which can happen but then it can't be a jumpstart.
5th pull
Bart's game. The 2 fouls were given WAY too early and Sam capitalized on it by using huge back-pressure to pull Geoff of the pad. Intelligent armwrestling on his part. Also, Sam again hits way early and curls in. Bart is known for giving fouls for curling in early (see match: Devon Larratt vs Jerry Cadorette). Devon once said something beautiful to Bart in his match with Jerry on WAL 402: "Dude, he does the same thing to me, I'm just winning." I think the problem with Bart is that he goes the underdog an advantage. Which is a f*cking c*nt move.
So, is at the end Geoff robbed of the hammer?
Yes and no. Sam was not like "CLEARLY" the weaker puller here. He was in the game after he was back awake again after losing 2 pulls. But then again, Bart gave advantages to Sam that should not have been given.
So yes, we could argue that the Geoff was robbed and that Bart has to rethink how he is going to do his refereeing in the future because Bart is a good referee, but with every referee comes mistakes. As well in MMA, as in soccer, as in armwrestling.
Agreed. Rounds 4 and 5 were arguably given to Sam, who could have beat Geoff anyway. Sad we didn't see a completely fair ending to the match.

so hard for me to come back and watch this match because Geoff was clearly the stronger man on this day. However, Sam played a very smart game by up pressuring and using his height to his advantage in the setup. Albeit shitty of Bart to let Sam get away with many things, it was still a great match.

Sam was pulling hales arms accross the table tho hale should of hit him with the kingsmove and tried to regain position .

Non armwrestlers should know Sam Harris took advantage of the modified WAL pads, as it favors people that pull backwards. Real table specs have an EVEN 7x7 pad, so it would be interesting to see them do a rematch on a standard table.

match 4, Harris clearly starts before the 'go', should have been false start. Hale is definitely the stronger puller.
Im not a rules expert but as a casual watcher it looked pretty awkward how harris was moving back way before the ready go call. Not sure if i just dont know how it works or if it really was a stupid as it looked. But if a casual fan eye like mine can catch it and it seems every comment here agrees, this Bart guy should be apologizing hale and the fans for mucking up an event they paid to see.

I think this sport is a nightmare to refer. If you are too strict there is no pin and no show like in top8 where matches are always 6 0. Negotiate with the referee is a big part of this sport.
