    =====================================
    Surrounded by a CBSE school, a 50-bed hospital, a civil supplies
    warehouse, a recreation centre and a bustling town with thousands...of houses and population of more than 35,000 and half a dozen shopping complexes..This was the scene of this forgotten ghost city Kudremukh 15 years ago.
    A stony silence greets you when you enter the town now...
    The school was closed 2 years ago. All shopping complexes, restaurants, hotels, banks, petrol outlets and the only college have closed down now. From a population of around 35,000 once, the town has hardly a few hundred people now.
    KIOCL has stopped the maintenance of Kudremukha park,
    "Nandanavana" because of lack of tourists.
    The hospital, functioning with half a dozen staff, leaks at many places.
    Just 15 years ago Kudremukh, was a paradise with uninterrupted power and water supply. It was in 1987 that Kudremukh was declared as a national park
    (630 sqkm). But mining operations continued even after the lease ended in 1999. Following Supreme Court’s orders, mining operations ceased on December 31, 2005.
    After mining ended, the iron ore plant with an annual capacity of 7.5 million tonnes and other machinery was pulled apart and shipped as scrap.
    A majority of 1,922 quarters spread over 370 acres, that once housed families of KIOCL employees, are in disintegrated condition now.

    I too am from kudremukha. My childhood and junior schooling was there before everyone started moving out.
    Btw the town had three schools. A government school, central school, convent school. Also a cisf base. A helipad. Markets. 3 temples too.
    The town was too developed even to this days terms. It was maintained by the people and the company society. A great community of people.
    Thanks for the video :)

    My friends and I visited Kudremukh during the mid 90s when we all were students in Mangalore. 10 guys and 5 bikes.. it was fun. We reached there at night and could not find any place to stay. I think we slept in a park. It was so cold and had to lie down for sometime on the road tarmac which was very warm 😂. So sad to see the town in this state now. Your video brought back a lot of nice memories. Thanks for this video 👍

    Even though it has turned into a ghost town. That, in my opinion, is the best thing that has happened. Kudremukha as a national park and if any of facilities would have been kept running, then people would have tried settling there and that would ruin the ecology. Also, I'm glad that steps have NOT been taken to improve tourism there. Else it would be another Mullayanagiri/Bababudangiri with irresponsible tourists ruining the beauty. Anyways, beautiful video. :) Keep exploring!

    • @StepsTogether
      @StepsTogether  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The DUKE Man We prefer to stay neutral without taking side of de industrialization or ecology and respecting both. If you have visited the town during its golden days you would understand the feel of sadness its empty roads and buildings poses now. Completely agree with the irresponsible attitude of so called tourists in the beautiful places around. Thanks for watching the video and commenting down your views. Waiting for your new vlogs 🙂👍

    Its very sad to see the city now. I still remember those days of 1998 till 2001 when I visited Kudremukh around 2-3 times during my child hood. we used to pass by Kudremukh whenever we visit Horanadu and Kalsa and we used to visit the Park/Garden which was very well maintained with full of Green and flowers also they had some instruments for children to hang out there. we used to love visiting Kudremukh. Also we visited the Dam which was empty and filled with iron ore wastes. I am very surprised to see the city now in this video. Thanks for this Video.

School, rainfall sometimes exceeded Chirapunji, much more info...

    Feel really Sad to see in this condition. Most Towns in Western Ghats are getting deserted year after year. Youths have already migrated to Metro cities due to their career and profession. We can only see Old faces. Kudremukh was a engineering marvel in 1980's. Very depressing to see such a beautiful town as Ghost town. Central govt can start some thing here to kick start movement of local people.

    I first visited kudremukh garden in 26 Jan 2000.
    Full of crowd kids were playing in the well maintained garden and elders are enjoying the beautiful garden
    Last time when I visited in 2018 I felt very sad.everything is ruined now such a beautiful town is now become a waste land.I feel very sorry for Kudremukh once pride of our country for iron ore become ghost town
    Govt should have developed the place as tourism spot
    Such a well maintained garden is completely vanished.
    Really feel sorry

    Stop adding a tag name as ghost town
    Yes I know the meaning of it but that tag line hurts many Kudremukh ppl who stayed and living there

    • @StepsTogether
      @StepsTogether  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tagline doesn't hurt people's sentiments, lack of amenities does. Just changing the title to 'Nourishing town' doesn't change the reality.

    Maybe you should have shown Lakya dam in your video as well as the now closed down KIOCL plant... Brief and nice video. Sad that KIOCL had to shutdown because of environmental issues and support sequently, the township had to be deserted.

      ८૦ɱԲ૦Ր੮คცՆע ძυɱც Thanks for sharing feedback. Yes we wanted to visit Lakya Dam and Plant. But sadly entry to both the places is restricted. There was barricade on the way to the dam and no one to enquire about. Upon that we had the restriction to get back to the check post within the time window of 1 hr issued by the forest department. It would be helpful for viewers, if you can share the alternative path to visit the Dam (if any).
