I was sitting in my lesson with my professor last semester for jazz drumming. He tells me to play a groove, and then he just starts giving me random scenarios and telling me to play the groove for that situation. Really similar to what you showed here and it really does change a lot

I've never heard the concept articulated until now.. but you framed it so well. I see guys MUCH better than me and often think to myself "I could make a better song tho".. and I constantly put myself down and try and try to hit the mark (which chop drummers hit with ease), but I always feel like I can't compete with them, while at the same time.. I am able to make a better song than them because I feel every hit. damn. I wanna go play drums now hahaha
