Andy Errington here. Sorry about your Dad, but this song kept me alive and sane whilst hiking from job to job in Holland Germany and France in the early 80's. Love the guy. Genius. Underrated.
This song and "No Mercy" are Nil's best, he is so talented it nearly brings tears to my eyes when I see him play and see him putting so much feeling into it! He deserves more credit than he is given! Thanks for putting this clip on, totally awesome1
thanks for the post. he is the greatest. never saw him live. it's a shame. my 5 year old daughter and i sit around and listen to him constantly. she loves his voice!
I agree definitively with you. I WANT SO BADLY TO HEAR NILS, BRUCE AND THE E STREET BAND PERFORMING "Shine Silently", "Goin' Back", "Back it up", "I came to dance" or "Keith don't go"... He wrote so many good songs...
Yes, thank you. Life is coming around to a "new normal". I know he would want me to be happy. This is one of the toughest experiences that people go through; there is a lot in it that can make a person stronger and better. I think his spirit is helping me do that. :)
Been at since i was 15, 50 years ago. Fortunately he has been no stranger to Belfast , N. Ireland. Seen him 6/7 times and 6 times with the E street band. An outstanding artist and such a talented musician. Love him
without this magic i'm not sure if i could've made it a while ago........thank you Nils for your skill and thanks Nico MonkeyKing for posting this astonishing song that gave me what i needed......
HUGE FAN!!! Saw him a few years ago at a small theater in MIlwaukee - Mountain Top Moment!! Had a chance to talk to him briefly later and have him sign a poster - What a great night!!!
J'ai découvert Nils il y a plus de 40 ans. Technique guitaristique extraordinaire avec ses harmoniques et de belles et émouvantes compo comme Valentine.
The story off how he got to play where he is trully fantastic he followed his dreams and what a fantastic success story he is absolutely brilliant man.
My Dad was a Nils fan I used to boogie to Flip as a kiddy dya like that one? cos he realy did flip about like an acrobat did Nils!!! amazing bloke yay!! I wish I was 11 again!!!!
Should have mentioned that I saw him in the hotel restaurant the next day and told him how much I enjoyed the song. He said it was his mom's favorite !
It might be just me, but I've got a sneaking feeling he's played that particular instrument before. Only joking, watched him live many times, simply delightful.
Please realize, that a 17 year old Nils COULD PLAY LIKE THIS, and our friend, getting annoyingly older just as my dad said "You just can't understand how fast it will go, so soak it in, son. I saw him one at age 20 with the trampuline and the Grin Band and yesm some songs poppy, but I love greaat rock and roll done "poppy" as he is never afraid of a beautiful melody, when he really feels it and it is like a muscle car engine that goes from "warming up- as much as this song- or not unlike a fire works display... he gets revved up at the post, does a kick and nails it in every finale' I am pretty certain the dance hurt, but feeling it deep, can't stop himself. How many 22 year old's can put an ending to a song like Nils? How many have even tried tp coppy that show of sparklers - as the finis=h here and "like rain" , that's it- I have it- Nils runs his race the way he wants to , yet like a great runner, he knows the beauty and the excitement is the end where he always wins by a neck or 10 lengths. You notice- when anyone dare ask him to play with him THEY ARE ALWAYS CAREFUL TO KEEP HIM IN HIS STALL and maybe gets 45 seconds to show his uniqueness. I saw George Harrison listed on the topp 30? r and r guitarists with GARY moore left out. well if you haven't seen it GH invites GM (kind of a tradition" to play "While my guitar gently weeps" and GH who was a very good and competent rhythm guitarist - anyway some idiots think that GM took too much limelight when it is clear to see that GH wanted him to SHOW OFF because he ( I think I heard this story) lost his mind watching this master of tone, big fingers the whole nine yards- and wanted him to "show off" for GH's sake as it appears that GH was just enthralled. I heard this story that when Gh was in ear shout of answering the question- who is the greatest guitarist you have played with (ok very loose paraphrase) HE SHOUTED, getting stirred up again, GARY MOORE!!!are you crazy? Oh how I wish I cold have seen moore crush that sniveling JIMMY PAIGE!!. So when your host, demands you play with all you got at whatever volume you choose the great ones do us a favor to do so. It are the tricksters who are more show than go that should go off in the dark. I would like to think that ec is very relieved of losing his god status- that is a place where if people put you there you QUIT, until they come to their senses.
Oh dear, he meant the song, not this particular version. "The musician's favourite song, Nils Lofgren's Shine Silently, was played at the service." ...according to the BBC.
yes he did he's lefthanded and using a flat pick didn't work for him, fun thing about it is back then everyone said that he couldn't play rock with thumb pick-> read this: premierguitar(.)com/Magazine/Issue/2009/Mar/Nils_Lofgren_Interview.aspx, btw i also want to meet him...
Can anybody out there post "It's not a crime" from the "Cry Tough" album and "If I say it, it, so" - the fatso album cover had so many hits "Two by Two," "I don't wanna know" appreciate anybody able to post these classics.
@tomiettinen Not possible. This is from the DVD "Nils Lofgren & Friends Live Acoustic". Nils Lofgren & Friends Live Acoustic Recorded live Feb. 17, 18 & 19, 2006 at the Birchmere, Alexandria, VA. And ... Stuart went above in 2001. On top of that, I wonder how people seem to have so much fun and playing that type of music in a funeral. Maybe only an acoustic guitar and a voice, maybe... but not like this. It would be crazy.
Hello Lilmizmex. I may seems a little naive or simple-minded message, but, I wanted to say I am sorry for your loss and if this video could help a little bit to go through the sad period, I should be glad. (sprry for the bad english)
My wonderful Dad had this played at his funeral, I miss him so so much.
May the Angels in Heaven grant you grace till you meet again... Stay strong in the meantime dear lady.
Andy Errington here. Sorry about your Dad, but this song kept me alive and sane whilst hiking from job to job in Holland Germany and France in the early 80's. Love the guy. Genius. Underrated.

Wow, I forgot how great Nils is. What a voice, what a player. Many thanks for the upload. Brilliant.
Nils your music has touched my soul since 1972! Long May You Run!
He's an amazing guy and guitarist , didn't leave York until he'd signed everyone's and everything that the crowd wanted , brilliant
That`s MUSIC!!!!! Real Music!!! Damn that`s GREATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a special performance from a man who has distilled the artifice of his craft to deliver a performance noting short of inspirational.
Such a brilliant song and a great talented man .
This song and "No Mercy" are Nil's best, he is so talented it nearly brings tears to my eyes when I see him play and see him putting so much feeling into it! He deserves more credit than he is given! Thanks for putting this clip on, totally awesome1

Lovely wistful tone to his voice, and Nils is an amazing guitarist...
IMO,this is his masterpiece. Even the intro is emotional.
In memory of my late husband, who is still shining on us...

Yes, thank you. Life is coming around to a "new normal". I know he would want me to be happy. This is one of the toughest experiences that people go through; there is a lot in it that can make a person stronger and better. I think his spirit is helping me do that. :)
