Order of Ecclesia Any% is now one of the most broken Castlevania speedruns, so if you're looking for an explanation, here's a video I made that talks about some of the new discoveries: th-cam.com/video/v0Z36P51Qlw/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful run, JC. Congrats on the new WR. I'm so glad the Dominus Collection has given new life to the DS 'Vania speedrun scene, for this game to be broken at long last. I remember an old GDQ run of this game from 2014-2015 where they hoping never to get Magical Tickets, because they sold most of the stuff they didn't use, and Magical Tickets don't sell for much. But now Magical Tickets are the key to the speedrun.
Congrats! Not to surprised to see you knock it out of the park post skip discovery. Also, I wanted to share some knowledge on the black magic of Portrait of Ruin's drop system in case you wanted to make a tip video on it. If you farm an easy drop enemy like a zombie and it drops its first slot item (rotton meat) and rewind to before killing it, the next enemy you kill, no matter where it is, they are guaranteed to drop their first slot item. Same thing goes for the second drop, get a shirt drop from zombie, rewind, next enemy is guaranteed a second slot drop. I don't know if this translates to Dawn or Order yet, but it makes portrait WAY less grindy for a casual 100%.
In Dawn you can rewind to before the final hit on an enemy and re-input it to reroll your odds (very helpful for bulky enemies like Iron Golem), it's the same for the GBA games iirc. Portrait and Ecclesia are different for sure though. I assume Ecclesia has a similar system to Portrait? But I'll leave the testing to those more qualified.
It's funny, I discovered the Magnes Backdash tech naturally years ago, but never used it because of how much MP it ate up. Now it's actually a viable option thanks to the 50 skip.
I'm guessing the map exit and Arthro kill are both frame perfect in that first sequence, but maybe there's something I don't understand. Can't get that trick to work to save my life. gg on the new routing and the run! been a lot of fun to see this run develop again recently
So the Arthroverta trick works by moving the map marker on the map screen BEFORE teleporting to the boss. It specifically has to be the off-screen map marker (you can see just a few pixels at the top of the screen by default).
Interesting how messy this game is to the point that Boss Rush is the gateway for speedrun shenanigans (yeah... you need to beat the game first before you can attempt a speedrun if you go to that glitchy route... also a shame we can't get early access to Hard Mode since we don't have that Wii Judgement + DS Order of Ecclesia connection... I think that also was a thing for Portrait of Ruin but I can't remember if on that one also applies). Edit: Dang, you made look Barlowe and Dracula like a joke (well, Barlowe at least has good lines in one of his attacks reflecting how dissapointed was with Shanoa discovering the truth of his plans), yeah... the game is fun to do a speed-run, but you're kinda at the RNG mercy in some cases like that transformation Glyph, but it is what it is.
Pardon my ignorance, I understand that the faster backdash spamming requires being hit, but... What are you pressing? lol It doesn't show on the input display. Is it a keyboard exclusive thing?
I use a never-before-seen velcro controller in addition to Gamepad with keyboard rebindings. Copy-paste info: "I attached a velcro square onto the back of my numpad USB, then used Gorilla Glue to affix a velcro strip to the top of a buckle strap, which I have fastened above my right knee." This allows for keyboard-like controls on the fly, which as you can see is VERY fast.
Hell yeah, Shanoa mode! Let's freakin' go! 🎉🎉🎉 After the last video, I wondered -- I hoped, and it came true! Year of Shadow? Hmph, more like Year of Shanoa!
Do you watch Ratatoskr? He's also a content creator here on YT. I just thought you sounded very similar to him in the way that you sound when you speak.
On the subject of giant’s dwelling. Is it leaving Somnus Reef that puts it on the map, or the cutscene in the village? I suppose it’s not too important either way, since somnus reef also has a heart max up for the later bosses.
I don't usually feel this way towards glitched CV speedruns (though they are obviously very cool to watch in their own right) but this seems like a genuinely really fun category to run, even if Redire will be sorely missed. Also, do we know if Dominus is faster/slower than DS at this point? I would assume it's somehow faster due to the fact that everybody is running on it RN, but I'm not really sure what would make it so. Isn't just resetting your DS/emu faster than going into the menu to reset?
At the moment it's safe to say that DS is slowest and Dominus vs emulation is unclear, might depend on the category. But everyone is moving to Dominus for a whole bunch of reasons (plays better, looks better, multiplatform, more control binding options). There are separate SRC leaderboards for each and I expect 95+% of future submissions will be played on the Dominus Collection.
@@JupiterClimb Plays better? Can you elaborate on what you mean by that? This is admittedly a me problem, but I like playing these sorts of games on keyboard for the most part and as far as I've heard there's no ingame rebinding of keyboard controls, which makes me a little hesitant to drop 25 on games I already have, but if it is really that nice I might just grab it anyhow...
@@wannabecinnabon By "plays better" I mean no input delay, no audio delay, and all the QoL improvements. Have you heard of Windows Keyboard Manager? Part of PowerToys, it's a very easy way to rebind keyboard controls, I've been using it for speedruns.

It's numpad inputs. From his Discord: "I attached a velcro square onto the back of my numpad USB, then used Gorilla Glue to affix a velcro strip to the top of a buckle strap, which I have fastened above my right knee"
Scratch that, it's indeed the R/L mashing as to why no input register, probably due to analog trigger being ultra sensitive and the program is not adjusted to any input less than certain % of travel distance, or unable to
Wait, you can get the first boss’s room to open in boss rush mode? How do you do that? Is it just fighting the thing in boss rush before fighting it in the main game?
This is a brand new trick, so to explain: You can open the Arthroverta boss door by going to the map screen and moving the off-screen map marker on-screen. I am not kidding, this actually works!!
@@JupiterClimb oh wow that’s hilarious! Makes you wonder what other stuff is hidden in the mechanics used to create boss rush mode. Something I noticed when trying this. Don’t press X (or Triangle in this case, I think) to recall ALL the map markers in boss rush mode’s first screen. For some reason that made Shanoa unable to move horizontally.
@@enlongjones2394 Yeah, it's worth noting that messing with some of the map pins can cause crashes on Dominus and memory corruptions on DS. The boss door trick is stable at least.

@@jruler93 Oh yeah, same here. If I already know I'm gonna buy a game, I avoid watching further trailers and gameplay demos for most part. In celebration of the new route discovery:
AN ABRIDGED SUMMARY OF THE NEW (TOTALLY) OFFICIAL LORE OF ORDER OF ECCLESIA
In our new run, Shanoa has become SENTIENT to her status as a protagonist upon losing her emotions, opting to leave the boss rush through the 4th wall and fully realize her inner (lv.50) strength.
In becoming sentient, she rapidly susses out the plot, deciding that she's more interested in finding albus **NOW** instead of silly villagers, to show him her raaaadical new powers!
Unfortunately she accidentally murders her adopted brother, for he was no match for the hussle™. But it's okay because she also learned the art of necromancy guys! Truly, her full potential realized.
So as any good sister would, she murders Albus twice to make sure she did a thourough job, and because what better way to complete [Dominus] ™®©then get four pieces? It's more than three.
Ignore the two Albuses (Albi? We need a plural term for multiple Albuses, he's rapidly multiplying.) chilling inside the glyph because of this, she needs the moral support.
Since hell could never hold her (ba dun tsss) she then proceeds to ressurect herself strictly through her overwhelming faith, in herself, outpeforming Dracula, who can only do that through some convoluted means every so years. Truly, Ecclesia has mastered his teachings to the point of even mastering alchemy!
In fully realizing her potential and transcending death, Shanoa proceeds to uhm... (reads notes)...turn into a cat, then the hidden THIRD Albus, through forbidden magic, cartwheeling at mach 4 directly out from boss rush and to Dracula's chamber, smashing strait through the statue of cerberus that protects him to establish domin....us. (ba dum tss)
She then proceeds to immediately maul the vampire using a mail-to-order lightsaber she bought a little bit before the events of the story.
All hail Shanoa, the weapon to surpass the Belmont bloodline.
Comedic lore readjustments aside, congratulations on WR Jupiter! I love watching your runs! Can't wait to see more Aria too. (And just how low Ecclesia gets shaved.)
That warp from the first boss to the monastery made me double take
Bravo good sir
same here
Wait Jup actually doing a speedrun of vanilla Shanoa mode?? I never thought I'd see the day

I still can't get over how Demon was such a popular soul in Dawn that they made it a plot-critical ability for the story of Ecclesia.
I need to see this run animated.
Just seeing Shanoa backflip at light-speeds, and break reality by constantly starting Boss Rush Mode is insane.
