  • DIY Solar PV Mount on Pallets, Version 2
I'm building a DIY solar photo voltaic array. The mounts are all built for free with pallets and reclaimed lumber.
The solar panels are used, originally installed in 2007. I bought them at a great price off craigslist.
Check out the last video in this series for more details on using strings to square up the rails: • DIY Solar Panel Mounti...

Great job in explaining what you're doing. Much appreciated.

The upper quarter of your panels are not supported against the wind. How about running 2x4s under the long edges of the panels (between the pallets and panels)?

I’m just about to mount 2kw array and decided pallets is best .

Thanks. I'm trying to show that solar doesn't have to be expensive. I actually got all the pallets delivered for free! A local warehouse needed to get rid of them and I responded to the ad. They dropped off a small truckload. Maybe 50 pallets all at once.

@@DavidPozEnergy you are right, ready-done frames available for sale are expensive and use to much expensive materials. The first roof I did was using standard alum. frames - I paid way to much for them!!! Then I experimented with basic zinc-coated steel. It was x5 times cheaper and suprisingly faster to mount. (plus its much easier to buy basic second hand steel) Also as you mentioned in another video, there is a market of second hand or damaged panels (most can be easily repaired), so the whole system can be done really cheaply. I will try to make small solar power plants to sell electricity to the grid. I realised I can buy small pieces of lands (like 2.000 sq meter) for very cheap price, because its inprofitable for farmers to grow anything on such a small piece of land. I will try to use your patent with pallets :)

In Massachusetts do you need a permit for off grid solar?

Actually, it's town by town. My town requires a permit if it's grid tied. All of my work is off grid.

    Where do your used parts?

I bought the solar panels used on craigslist. The aluminum rails came with the panels. I got the pallets for free from a nearby auto parts store.
