Super stoked about this format! Really make it much easier to understand whats going on! Awsome riding from Can and Shahar🙌 Really proud to support the riders and Mike & his crew!! Much love from the Surfpirates HQ
So happy to see how we reinvented the competition system!!! I’m extremely excited and happy to be part of this evolution!! Thanks Mike to push the limit!
Re-inventing Battle Of The BERRICS !!!! freaking good idea !!! It took me a while to understand that even though you propose a trick, if the challenger peforms better, you get a letter... pretty smart. I just learned a new verb : getting BAKLED ! YYeeeewww!!!!
Indeed better format, much easier to decide which performs better. We could even spice things up by allowing each rider to ban a trick from being performed 🔥
Amazing idea! And I'm sure it can also improve the interaction of daily riders during their sessions! I just think calling it a game of kite, instead of bakl for self-promotion, to keep the sport in front and respect the inheritage from the game of skate, would be cooler!
Love it as a long-term (20 years) casual and occasional kiteboarder. As a business owner, I would be interested in having a price on sponsorship of an individual battle (with a related TH-cam call out (which could be, say, a 30-second promo slot).
Thanks! Jump heights will be included in some of the next uploads, thanks to The Surfr App. Unfortunately we didn't manage to record them for this test battle.
This approach also helps to ensure more fairness based on transparency…nothing completely new in sports, but maybe especially helps kiteboarding to get more famous
I really admire your kite wisdom, work, how to videos and all the effort you put into the progress! I sure will attend one of tour kite clinics. But Bakl system makes me not exited; every rider has its own style and signature trick/s, which and consequently the diversity of kiteboarding are not in first place with this type of comp. It looks more like who has a longer John…🤷🏻♀️ would love to see the diversity and progression of the riders and therefore also community.
Thank you! We see your point, which is why we also ran a different format ;) One in which riders are able to perform any trick they like (not needing to do the same trick as their opponent). We're publishing it tomorrow. Stay tuned!
@@bigairkiteleague…let’s see… …if it can beat a nice systematic scoring system, which could be pretty useful. And people not knowing trics? Well they should learn. How can you perform a trick you don’t know a name of? Pretty much impossible.
A bad idea! I'm watching the second issue does not catch on! THERE! is NO competitive spiritand forcing athletes to do unworked tricks and expose them to damage is a so-so idea. !
Funny format but why don’t you just give out a letter if the other rider just can’t do the trick? Like a game of skate where one leads a trick, other has to do it otherwise it changes & you get letter? So you eliminate biased judging completely Also why are we not differing in loops like high loop normal loop megaloop kinda? So if a loop goes in front of the rider it’s better and if loops are done like helis they don’t count as much
Great question! The rules of any game determine what strategy emerges. So the reason why you win by doing the trick bigger and better, rather than simply by landing the trick (as you do in a game of skate), is because we want to see the riders going high and performing the tricks beautifully. If height and quality of execution do not determine who wins, then the rider who can do all the tricks, but not necessarily very high or with great execution, would win the game. Our rules ensure that the strategy to win the heat is not only being able to perform the tricks, but also performing them with spectacular execution (height, style, power, etc.), which is what we all of course want to see. Cheers Mike
Awesome! The key difference is that you don't avoid a letter simply by landing a trick. You need to land the trick AND do it better than your opponent. This ensures that the strategy to win the heat is not simply being able to perform tricks, but also being able to go massive, which is what we all of course want to see. Cheers Mike
😂 touché! Ordinarily, it wouldn't be okay to change the rules of the game once it's started, but since this was a test battle (which we were only able to run once, due to financial limitations) it was the right thing to do (all things considered).

Would love to see a split screen view of the trick synched to the moment they take off. This was cool. Well done.
Great idea! We'll explore doing that in BAKL Battles Cape Town, which we'll produce in the coming weeks.
@@bigairkiteleague terrible idea, please do not
difficult to comprehend one trick at time, yet alone 2

We're stoked you're excited Jason! Excited to see you throwing down in games of BAKL in the BAKL Battles finale!

Great format, I would also include a height measurements so it's clear to see the winner. And also judge based on the kite angle while looping

I Love it Mike! Definitely a better competition format for BIG AIR!
Great stuff here! Cant wait to see bakl big break!

might be a good idea to pull this before redbull sees you caning on their format since your gal is competing in five hours ? 🙄
we have been doing that in Australia for over 15 years but we call it kite

A step in the right direction. Aren’t there certain moves that are required with gymnastics?
Yeah but the gimnast are not told what to do. They do their own best and the scoring is as it is.
The rider should say in advance what he will do. Otherwise it's a lot of chance included. E.g. try to copy a magic gust.
Well I hope that this is not the future 🤣
Who will take you sport seriously with contest like this ?
For all the obsession about fairness you changed the rules mid game 😂 what is going on bru
