Bobs style is not only pleasing to the ears, it's a riot to play. his style was the most influential one growing up as a musician. He and Randy for me into metal
Just amazing. One of my favorite tracks. Weird thing is everyone is going full out but the music still doesn’t seem too busy. That’s the mark of great musicians. Everyone punched where and when they needed to. Believer is another track, cool simple bass line, a lot of negative space in the guitar work. Daisley, Rhoads and Kerslake made a hell of a band
Bob Daisley is my favourite bass player of the genre. Nice review Paul. Let me please do a little comment: Shot In The Dark is credited on The Ultimate Sin to Phil Soussan but is an original tune of Wildelife from 1983 without copyright, credited in a presentation on the BBC Radio as Overland, Overland, Soussan. Later Phil reformed this tune in early 1986 and presented it to Ozzy as his own composition. In 2012 Steve Overland made a new recording of the song, sticking to the original composition and lyrics in an FM (band) EP. Give it a try, it's awsome. Bob wrote all the stuff for The Ultimate Sin album along with Jake E. Lee (music & lyrics, no matter what fake credits to Ozzy say), but Shot is the only one he didn't wrote. That makes me wonder if the "lydian ascending scale stuff" in The Ultimate Sin song is a Bob's idea or it is a Phil's trademark (in my opinion, the last). A special review on Phil's playing would be nice if you will!
Bob is a fantastic player and has been crucial to Ozzy's success. He didn't play on Shot In The Dark or The Ultimate Sin as you suggest though. He did however write lyrics for the bulk of the Ultimate Sin album.
Hey Paul. A little late with this but,....thank you very much for sharing your brilliance. I'm a 59year old Dad,club vet, and you have taught me more than you could imagine. Amazing! Plus I love to hear you talk! Jamming in shorts ,comfy,cranking,....my Guy. Doberman is just awesome! Thank you again. Jim Chicago South Side!!!!!
I recall Ozzy giving Inez credit for the bass line of No More Tears. That's when I gave up on Oz. You can't say shit like that, man. Credit to Bob. He is the master.
Sorry to be nit-picky, about the Lydian bridge… not only did Paul Soussan play on both Shot in The Dark and Ultimate Sin, but he wrote Shot in The Dark, with his band FM. No More Tears sounds a lot like… Man in The Box, by Alice in Chains, because that’s who wrote that bass line. That was originally Mike Inez.
Would love a video on Geddy Lee, Steve DiGiorgio, Tom Araya, Shane Embury, Martin Ain, Conrad 'Cronos' Lant, Danny Lilker, Les Claypool or Frank Bello. Any of those would be amazing, though some of those bassists you might not be familiar with idk. Great video btw! 🤘
@@JayManJax thats right. From what i understand Bob had a certain "feel" that Ozzy wanted on the album, so Bob did the album and Mike Inez did the tour. Much like the previous album No rest for the Wicked in 1988, Bob did the album and Geezer Butler did the tour.
I am not sur about "Ultimate Sin" but when it comes to "Shot In The Dark" , it is Phil Soussan that brought the track to Ozzy, and I think that he has the rights for it. They fought in court for the rights btw but on this one it is not Daisley for sure.
Great vid as always, Paul! I always end up deep diving into artists/bands I never really checked out after a vid of yours on their respective bassist. Think you could cover Rob Wright of NoMeansNo and Klaus Flouride of the Dead Kennedys at some point? Two super underrated punk players with jazz chops that deserve further analysis IMHO.
One of my favourite bass players of all times. Excellent video as usual, but just a little note: "Shot in the dark" was (co-)written and performed by Phil Soussan, being the only song of the album not co-penned by Daisley.
Actually Phil wrote and recorded Shot In The Dark before he played with Ozzy. He had to give Ozzy a writing and thus publishing credit to get the song on the album. More fuckery from Sharon, but Ozzy is aware of all that shit that goes on. Jake said he told him once that he fucked him because he had to and that Jake would do it to people too if he stayed in the business long enough.
It was bob in the studio but geezer butler was there for music videos or performance I think because I believe bob never wants to perform with ozzy. Or be one of he’s music videos.
I have a couple of recommendations Geddy Lee from Rush Paul McCartney from the Beatles and wings John myung from dream theater Tina Weymouth from talking heads and Tom Tom club Colin greenwood of Radiohead
Most do not play Crazy Train correct, especially Robert Trujillo who replaced Bob’s original bass on 1st/2nd record and it was horrendous. Beginning verse hair in front but back end of verse run you must be behind of verse.
some excellent suggestions for you: Flea from the red hot chili peppers Steve Harris John Entwhistle John Paul Jones Geezer Butler an last but not least Phil 'Pip' Lynott

Do Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet
Bob is the unsung hero of Ozzy's career
I know the term has been used a lot in these videos, but truly Bob Daisley is one underrated musician...
Bobs style is not only pleasing to the ears, it's a riot to play. his style was the most influential one growing up as a musician. He and Randy for me into metal
Bob daisley need all the praise possible ! He is a master songwriter!!!
SATO's bassline is mindblowing....bob kills it.

A Legend and unfortunately Very underrated , amazing producer as well
It's all about his melodic mastery on "Tonight"
Bob Daisley! Iconic! 👍

Bob daisley one of my all time favorite bass players

Can you make a video about Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Trapeze
My personal opinion! But, Entwhistle, Squire and Lee is it!! And Ozzy had a monster bass player in Jan of 1983, Don Costa!

Well, because Inez wrote the riffs, but Daisley is still credited for playing on the record.
@@kennet7837 Thanks, mate. I had it the wrong way around. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
@@davidmcc6666 now we can move on to Ozzy taking credit for Bob's lyrics 😆

More Bob Daisley please! From all his other collaborations. And Uriah Heep as its own episode please. Awesome stuff.
He did a wonderful fretless contribution on Gary Moore's Empty room...
1:05 what's with the Bass players in Ozzy's bands always writing the lyrics

I read an interview where he said he used his main P-Bass on No More Tears.
But it was Mike Inez the actual instigator of "No More Tears", isn't he?
He wrote the bass line but for some reason they decided to have Bob play on the record.
@@JayManJax thats right. From what i understand Bob had a certain "feel" that Ozzy wanted on the album, so Bob did the album and Mike Inez did the tour. Much like the previous album No rest for the Wicked in 1988, Bob did the album and Geezer Butler did the tour.

The INTRO RIFF to No More Tears was actually composed by Mike Inez.

Bob was untold bass hero!!!, my Favorite is suicide solution
Hello Paul, I'm not speak english a little beat only, can you put how sound like a Rory Gallagher bass player, thanks
A short scale gibson with flatwound strings through a Marshall stack, or so I have read. He was my first bass hero and still is today.
Really??? I thought he only used flats with fretless! Ill be damned

I thought he only played with Ozzy on Blizzard and Diary. Didn't know he was on other albums also.
Cant wait for your Chris Squire video: "Never do anything a normal bass player would do until at least 1983."

I was asking myself, “Why does Geezer Butler look so different in that thumbnail?”
I don’t know who plays the bass line in believer but that day so I was sick
I believe for no more tears he wrote the baseline. But didn’t perform it for the album. So another bass player may have.
According to Ozzy, that one was vaguely written by Mike Inez and then the whole thing was constructed over the intro riff...
Bob played bass on the album, Mike Inez did the subsequent tour.
@@onerandombruh I no longer believe anything Ozzy says lol
