- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it was “the right thing to do” and that illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are an “impediment to a two-state solution” as he responded to a question on Thursday about his government sanctioning Israeli settlers.
The question followed an announcement by Foreign Minister Penny Wong about financial sanctions and travel bans on seven individuals and the Hilltop Youth religious settler group.
Australia’s decision to levy sanctions on Israeli settlers accused of “beatings, sexual assault and torture” of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank follows similar decisions made by Europe and the United States earlier this year.

Sanctioning settlers is meaningless. They should sanction the state that continues to enable them.
Plus organizations, like the JNF, which funds settlers, and the people who work for it.
And stop arms shipments. The right wing cabinet was passing out rifles to these settlers like they were candy. Those rifles come from Western nations, mostly US & Germany.
They can’t keep pretending there’s no link to this. Our people need to be educated on the matter.

To be fair, my current Australian government did formally recognise Palestine Territories as Occupied, soon after being elected. The previous, right wing government (which was in Office for a decade) did not do so.
I haven't read all the details, but I believe that compensation is intended to be made to citizens of Afghanistan who suffered war crimes, which were reported by Australian soldiers and which resulted in charges against the most senior member of the Australian Army.
Near where I live, a significant number of refugees from Afghanistan have immigrated to Australia. There is a shortage of housing, in this area and I believe that the government has acted compassionately, to offer refuge; especially in this particular area, in which natively born Australians might not be able to afford to live, themselves.
Whilst I couldn't say that my government has been at all infallible, regarding the catastrophe in Gaza or other situations, I do believe that positive feedback, to any governments, organisations or individuals, wherever possible, is very important; especially in this era, wherever possible.
I feel that my government and others have had many challenges, since the Covid pandemic, climate problems, war in Ukraine and the onslaught on Gaza. Taking notice of anything positive that anyone or any government is doing will, I feel, lead to further positive actions. Our world certainly needs more kindness, in my opinion!

No government is 'perfect', but I would definitely balance criticism with gratitude for what has been achieved; no matter the government.
I would also try to reach out to any Israeli (or Russian, or any other "enemy" citizens whom any readers might know). Wars (and Crimes Against Humanity) HOPEFULLY end and people who were formerly "enemies" have to find ways to share our 🌎🌍🌏.
Remember: half of Europe was at terrible war with the other half, only 80 years ago. Those people have since found ways to move past the heinous traumas of the World Wars and I truly hope that people can return to ☮️ and compassion, now.
