I have a STIHL Wood Boss. It is a perfect fire wood saw and mine runs like a beast. The saw in your video is obviously brand new, your saw won’t run and start at peak performance for at least 5-10 tanks of fuel. When the Wood Boss is good and broke in it is one fine saw. I’d recommend it to my best friend for fire wood cutting any day, a powerful little saw.
Bought a wood boss 3 yrs ago. Been a super awesome saw. I cut large trees down and use it for triming. Use for fire wood and have loved it. Never had an issue yet. Not had any problems like in the video. Best small saw I have ever owned.
I have the same issue with my ms251 to the point of taking it for a trade. Sometimes it starts and runs fine. Other times it will not start. Still other times it starts, cut for 30 mins, then will not restart. 0:00
You are only supposed to use 93 octane ethanol free in a small engine. My Wood boss is 10 years old only issue I had was a fuel line hardening due to ethanol in fuel. Get you some security screwdriver bits and set the idle and high idle. Shh the EPA doesn’t like it.
Sounds good guys. Yup non ethanol gas is all I run in my stihl equipment. Helps so much and keeps it running clean. I have a 271 farm boss and love it, glad I didn’t get the 251 wood boss.
had the same issue with the stihl weedwhacker we have- dealer said all good, but sadly it still does it sometimes... I wonder if these just run better on their "mix" gas thats $9 a gal
Half choke is for starting only - so no wonder, when you let it run on choke it does not rev.... Cold start with full choke until it "shakes" - half choke to start it - and when it's running just give it a short rev, to get it from choke to running mode - let it sit for a minute or so and you should be fine to go.
Thanks for the comment. I am super familiar with staring stihl chainsaw, and this one was just acting really weird. When I let it idle it would just die and so forth,, probably carb issues I think.
It sucks 🏀 bought it brand new and it didn’t fire up…it didn’t even leave the store, had to wait for the manager at ace to refund the money.get a husky 445 and up
Lol. Ace sucks. They never want to give you your money back. But if you bought a Husky 445 & you think it’s a better saw you’re totally incorrect! The Stihl MS 250-251 and others are a way way better saw then any Husky! Trust me. I know!
@@shanedawson-xt3wtthe 445 a decade ago was superior for homeowners class saws. they suck now. the 250 was the last good saw that a homeowner could expect to get 20 years out of
What fuel were you using if you were using the red can or green can from true fuel that's the problem stihl machines don't like that fuel had it happen to me.
Yup I’m guessing it was that or a carburetor issue. Our stihl mechanic hasn’t worked on the chainsaw yet but when he does I’ll be super curious to see what he finds!
The 251 is the "new and improved" version of the old reliable 250. The 251 sucks . I've had one for a year. Was hard to start when brand new and hasn't got any better.
251 sucks. they took a reliable solid built 250 that had zero issues and replaced it with an upgraded version all for improved epa regulations. the saw is hot garbage

Have had one for 6 years not one issue. Great homeowner firewood saw.
Nice good to hear

Awesome that’s great to hear! I think it was just a carburetor issue
The 251 cbe started right up and running perfectly 😊
I have a Wood Boss Pretty good saw

I began using 93 octane fuel which helped. Last trip up to the cabin it would not start using fresh gas and oil. Very disappointed with this purchase.

Also never leave fuel in it. Pour it out and run it dry to store it.
Thanks for the feedback. I will do both suggestions and change the plug. The saw is 7 yrs old but low hrs.

Also had the same issue on the ms 230 Stihl
Huh interesting
had the same issue with the stihl weedwhacker we have- dealer said all good, but sadly it still does it sometimes... I wonder if these just run better on their "mix" gas thats $9 a gal
Yeah it’s interesting. I run a 90 octane gas ( non ethanol) and stihl Hp ultra oil
Run 91 and Sybil brand mix
Just adjust your shit better
Started to get excited: 16” bar 33 hp.. :)
Cool chainsaws and information brother
Thanks for watching

There is no half choke at any stihl chainsaw! It’s high idle! Stihl chainsaws are chocked only at the last position down on the lever
Following these instructions help me with my saw.
@mikelowrey2156 glad to hear, happy to help

Yea bummer. I got a 271 and love it. No issues with it for starting upz

I agree, stihl for the win!

What model is the smaller saw in this video?
Ms 180
A 33 horsepower Ms 180, would be quite a handful.
Haha yeah 😂
check the spark screen in the muffler.
Yup I did. Wasn’t clogged at all. Im pretty sure it was a carburetor issue. I returned the saw and got a 271 farm boss.
@@bmc_rc6212 that would have been my next suggestion, carb. best of fun with your new machine

I was using stihl motomix. Never ran trufuel because of all the bad things I’ve heard about it.
I use gasoline and the cheapest oil mix i can find and i have zero issues
WINTER OR SUMMER setting?
It was on summer
I have both, old 250 and 251
Old 250 is really a much better saw
Yup I agree
how many inches is the sword?"
18 inches
I love mine but I notice all the review videos have pristine brand new saws how can these be comprehensive reviews
Yeah it depends
Sounds like dirty carb. Probably had debris in carb then cleared out after running.
Yup I’m guessing it was that or a carburetor issue. Our stihl mechanic hasn’t worked on the chainsaw yet but when he does I’ll be super curious to see what he finds!

Yep, I agree. The 250 is way more reliable

Yup I agree, sure did.
I don’t think you know how to start a Stihl!
No I do, I’ve had lots of practice starting them and this one was just weird to try to start 🤷
buy a china saw brother. they rip hard
😂no thanks man. I’m happy with my 271 and 180c I got
@@bmc_rc6212 haha well the china saw I replaced my 251 with is definitely an upgrade. Only 1/10th the price too hehehe
Oh wow nice
Lol. My Stihl will
Rip any saw you have that’s from
china
@@shanedawson-xt3wt XD not if it's an ms251
