    My Grandmother used to say to me.. “Baby don’t ever hide your age. If you don’t have birthdays, you’re six feet under..” I gladly tell folks that I’m 53 and if God continues to bless me, I’ll be 54 this year. 😊
    Yes, watching your parent’s struggle as they age is difficult. My brother and I were blessed to watch her care for her parents. I helped her with their care. Those lessons helped me until her passing.. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
    And you’re so right about friendships. It’s so, so different..

      I’m 70 years old and I get that all of the time. When I tell people my age they’ll say I thought maybe 50 or 55 they are very surprised. I agree and have no fear or vanity about telling my age, 70 years old and proud👏🏾

    Anita I miss your decor videos but this was good too , as a professional marriage and family counselor and a woman who’s been married over 40 years yes honey you have plenty of experience to share to those who seek marriage counseling because you have walked the walk and talk the talk and you stay the course!! There is no substitute for life experience especially when it comes to marriage ,thank you for sharing this was good! Blessings 😘😇

    Hey girl hey! Im late in responding to your video but of course I watched the day it dropped. This was sooooo on point! everything about the empty nesting , taking care of your parents, growing in marriage, friendships..changing, menopause 🙄"SpongeBob 🤣" I couldn't figure out if I was coming or going at one point but learning to advocate for myself is key because you're right, they don't tell you anything. THIS CHIT CHAT WAS GREAT!

    Hi Anita love this video. You spoke so many truths. Aging is a blessing and seeing our children grow into beautiful adults is priceless! Speaking of brain fog. Watched this last week and thought I commented 🙄 Amen to what you said about nursing/rehabilitation places. You definitely have to make your presence known even in some hospitals and advocate for your loved ones. 🥰

    Hey Anita!! You are spot on with all these topics- from aging parents, menopause 🥵, empty nesting, missing the kids- to enjoying the new empty nest, and not needing to have to talk or text daily or weekly with friends… you are my Middle Age Bestie in my head. 😂 My husband and I just celebrated 32 years together- I’ll be 50 this year and the road to better health and being fit is in full effect!!! ❤ 💪🏾 💍
    Marriage is a beautiful thing- God blessed me with a wonderful husband and great children! We now have a beautiful grandchild- we enjoy her and she loves coming to visit Nana and Pop Pop🙏🏾 Loving your channel!!!

    Anita…Anita…Anita!!!! You told no lies in this video. When my Dad was in a “physical rehabilitation” place after getting out of the hospital a couple of years ago. I went up there and found him sitting in a wheelchair after his physical therapist brought him back to his room. He had been sitting there for two or more hours. I was about to tear the entire roof off that building. I started making regular visits and found crazy stuff every time I went up there. Long story short. I ended up reporting them to the state health department. They investigated them and they failed the investigation. To this day, I don’t trust any facilities. Please, please everyone go and check up on your love ones in these facilities. Let them know you watching them. Those people used to cringe when they saw me coming in the door. I was like GOOD…YOU NEED TO BE CRINGING!!! lol. Love you Anita. Been watching you for a long time. Be blessed and keep rolling. 🚗✈️

    Hi Anita, wow I really enjoyed this vlog. I was excited to see the title. Glad your mother is better. What you experienced is similar to things I experienced when she was going through her demise. I would feel angry and pissed off and hurt all of the same time. Well this was due to her condition. She was in and out the hospital and nursing facilities and then to the board and care home until she too her last breath on Feb 23, three days before my birthday 🥲Sometimes I would walk into her room and she would act as if I’ve been there for days, or her voice was rough and harsh. Experiencing things like that was hard and painful. Now I’m so sad and grieving hard for her. I miss her terribly and I’m soo angry that she’s not here. I still need her and her prayers when I need it, her words filled with wisdom. I always say these days, who’s going to be my mother now 😢Anyway so glad you and Lonnie are still en love and enjoying life happy together. Feel free to post when you like. Yes I love these chit chats, q and a video or anything. I’ll never get bored of you 😊Thanks for sharing ❤

      Hi Liz, Again I am so sorry about the passing of your mother and my sincerest condolences to you and your family. I think they act like that towards us because they are upset about their situation and we are the closest ones to them. so their frustration is taken out on us. It does not make it right and yes, it is extremely hurtful and frustrating especially when you are just trying to help, provide comfort and be supportive. However, like you said, once they are not here the sadness and loss really kick in and that is and has to be very difficult to deal with. I am sending you lots of love and big hugs and hang in there sis and take some time to try to focus on you and your well beng and remember the many good times between you and you mother. TFW!

    Hi Anita! Like everyone else said… ur hitting the nail on the head for me too. I’m 54, an empty nester, married for 34 years. Buried both my parents and ran THE ENTIRE gamut of emotions dealing with their stays in nursing/rehab and hospital and I’m the only child left. Without the help of extended family I may not have survived. Now I’ve got this time on my hands and a lot of things are up for reevaluation…this job, this house, etc. One good thing about menapause is it makes you stop bs’ing around with people and things. Gotta get stuff done when u can because I’m going to forget what I was doing in two minutes😂

    Hi Anita, I agree with the nursing home situation. My mom was in one for rehab years ago. I was there with her everyday. All day it was very important that the staff were aware of a family present. Not a good place. Have a great week!!

    • @RollinwithAnita
      @RollinwithAnita  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly Joann, family showing up and being present in those places is vital to the patients recovery. Because that determines the level of care they will receive while there unfortunately.

    Thanks for the video, Anita. I'm feeling the same way about decor, I turned 60 last November and my husband and I have one son who is not interested in any my decor, he's not married but lives with his girlfriend, so I have started donating all my decor. I don't want something to happen to me or my husband and my son have to sort thru all my decor stuff, I have made up my mind I need to part with all this stuff and focus on putting a plan in place to get my affairs in order with key documents for my son to have access to my important documents in the event something happens to me and my husband.

    Hello Anita, you are so right! It didn't seem as a younger me either that life, was moving fast. We now have one more week in this month! Time is flying. This is you and Lonnie's time. You both have raised to amazing, responsible, successful adults 👊🏽👊🏽. Again it was soooo good to see Mrs. Helen, and that she is doing well. One of the things I like about you Anita, you shop intentionally. You've said from the beginning of time. I only buy what I need. That's the way I am, and I like to enjoy my home styling for a while before changing it out. Anita, you haven't done this in a while but. I enjoyed when you did some cooking on your channel. This was so good! I really enjoyed the chat. I went through the same experience with my dad. He literally cussed me out when I was there helping to care from him. It really hurt but I had to remember he’s my dad. I’m in my early 40s so I’m beginning to experience the symptoms of perimenopause. I started creating videos the year I turned 41 on my other channel. It was a huge accomplishment for me. My oldest 2 children are in college and I have a daughter in high school and and son in middle school. Life really came at us fast bc I promise they were babies yesterday! I love your travel vlogs, your vlogs, and chit chat. I’m here for it all! Yes, to the marriage Q and A. My husband and I have been married 21 years and I look forward to traveling and doing things we enjoy like you and your husband! Keep it up! This was really good!

      Aw, thank you so much I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I think they treat us like that becuse they are frustrated with their situation and they feel they have no or are losing control so they take it out on us. It doesn't make it right and it is hurtful and frustrating to us when like you said, all we are trying to do is help and be there for them. It's just a tough situation all the way around. You probably don't remember but I messaged you years ago about my marriage and you were so sweet and thoughtful on your feedback. I really valued what you had to say! I'm actually a therapist my self and I still found solace in consoling with a complete stranger lol but your spirit is so wonderful it felt good to commune with you. You have been married for 32 years and your relationship is healthy I think your qualified to give advice. I would love to see more chit chat videos regarding life in general, marriage, kids. Hey Anita! I enjoyed the chat video. I am kind of tired of looking at decor videos. Although I still watch a few people decor videos mostly for inspiration. I still like to change up my decor around the house using mostly now what I already have. I do enjoy the traveling you and Lonnie do. Another thing that gives me motivation to do more traveling. My husband and I have always traveled, but now we are traveling more often with little short trips here and there. But as far as content to see on your channel, I am with whatever you put out there….lol! I missed the last video which I am about to watch now. But life was happening, you know right? Hey Walt, yep, that's exactly what they say when they know you not playing about your parent. Those places can definitely be stressful and I feel that is one of the reasons my mother was taking here anger out on me because she was afraid to speak up for herself to the staff, but I sure as hell was not...lol. When she was in the hospital the staff was amazing, but she had been in three different rehab/nursing homes and these were considered the "good/best" ones and I was smh at all of them, just terrible, even if they looked super nice. You really have to go and see your people everyday while they are in these facilities. I just really felt/feel bad for the ones who had no one come, it broke my heart. Have a great week and TFW!

    very interesting your comment that "there's alot of stuff they dont tell you about menopause". I had almost the same thought the other day and said, there should be a mandatory gyn visit as women approach menopause to discuss possible symptoms a woman might experience. I went through menopause at 54 and never knew that joint pain was a symptom and it can be crippling (I went from working out 5 days a week including lifting weights to having difficulty walking or standing up because it was so painful). quite frightening until I learned it was secondary to menopause. I swore I would never take HRT (hormone replacement therapy) but it truly helped me to function (basically to be able to move). I now make sure to tell the women in my circle about the various menopausal symptoms they might experience so they can be aware

    • @RollinwithAnita
      @RollinwithAnita  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly Lasandra, I was having a very difficult time walking because I kept having severe cramping in my hips and I was like, what is wrong with me. Some days I would be fine and other days in constant pain. I did some research and found out that it was one of the symptoms of menopause. I’ve been using a foam roller now that really helps to get the kinks out. Unfortunately, with my heart issues I’m not able to take HRT so o have to find natural remedies that don’t always work.😩😩

    That’s so funny what you said about home decor. I have a nice collection, but some stuff I’ve had for over 20 years. I’ve declutterred over the years, and occasionally add a few new items. This past year brown was the color to decorate with at Christmas, I stayed with my traditional red and green, no one in my house wanted a brown Christmas. Anita sweetie I just wanted to give you my input. Patients at those nursing homes their adult children will forget about their parents. The senior's don't have anything to wear and if they do their clothing are rags. It's sad and I gave up working, I brought home the sadness and emotionally I couldn't take it. Year's after I also had my deceased husband in a nursing home as well and someone took his shoes, even if we write down their names on the collar with a permanent marker the clothes will still go missing. Is sad and senior's shouldn't be treated so unfair.

    Hi Anita. I'm so glad you made this vlog. My mother stayed with me after glaucoma and having low vision. Then she had knee surgery. She was so mean to me and would call my sister and brother and lie and talk about me. She was vicious! Then she would apologize after I recorded her and showed my sister how she really mis treated me because my mother played the victim. 😢 Then my mother apologized only to do it again. We got her own apartment because I couldn't take it anymore. I worked from home and lost my job from being so stressed and overwhelmed!! But I know God while open another door for me. It is difficult but I had to take care of myself. My brother and sister have 4 bedroom homes and wouldn't allow her to stay with them. I am in a two bedroom apartment! That speaks volumes. At least you had help in the beginning, and I never did. Also, my mom was difficult to get along with before her health issues. But I tried to assist for years and finally I had to take a step back for me. I'm in my 50's and I still want to do things in my life and what good is my life if I'm broken ? I'm glad your mom is well and it's important to have help when you are helping someone else. ❤🙏😊💐💐💐

    Those facilities aren't meant to be horrible, but just think about it. You know and said it yourself that your own mother (that you had all of life) was really mean to you. Do you believe that most patients are nice to health care professionals? Not likely. It's really a combination of things as to why people think that those places are horrible. Politics, Money, and Staffing. What looks decent on paper is not reality. Oftentimes, those places make promises that they should not make because they know that it's not possible with their budget and staff. It's better when family members are involved in the actual physical care of a patient and not just present to see what the staff is doing. It takes a village to raise a child, but boy, oh boy, it takes that and more than a team of healthcare professionals to rehabilitate an elderly patient.

    • @RollinwithAnita
      @RollinwithAnita  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those facilities may not be meant to be horrible, but unfortunately many of them are and that’s not me thinking it, that’s me knowing. Most of those places are understaffed and the workers are indeed underpaid. Hence one of the reasons for the lack of care because a lot of the staff besides the doctors, head nurses, and physical therapists, are minimally trained, overworked, and like I said underpaid. Yes, it takes a village and that is one thing my mother has. You can best believe that my brother (who is nurse) myself, and one of our cousins (who is also a nurse) were very involved in my mother’s care and advocacy when she was in the hospital, in rehab, and once she came home. No one was going there to see what the staff was doing, we just realized when we were there on our many visits that they weren’t doing much of anything. We were doing most of the work with her there and once she got home. She in fact did not start walking again until she actually left rehab and we took turns staying with her in her home and worked with her day and night to get better. Yes, I said that she was mean to me and she was at times but, I can tell you she was not that way to the staff in those facilities so, your assumption is in fact incorrect. All I can say is that thankfully she is better and back to being her spunky self and living independently again. But those three rehab facilities that she was in (and these were supposed to be the nice ones) had little to do with her getting better and that’s just facts and like I said, I really feel for those patients who have no one visiting them or checking in on them on in those places. Now the staff when she was in the hospital, was amazing!

    • @BellaKayeLLard
      @BellaKayeLLard 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @RollinwithAnita I didn't assume anything at all. I don't think or even believe that your mom was mean to staff. My take is that if some patients are mean to their own families, it is likely that some are mean to staff also. Refusing some care that patients have the right to refuse. It takes a toll on anyone and is not always about the pay. It's more of the patient load and acuity to nurse/CNA ratio. It is much easier to raise many children than for many children (or anyone helping) to get adult parents (people) to cooperate with some care, especially when they have been independent for some time. There are many factors in people's experiences and opinions. One of them just may be a lack of properly trained staff that will do things decently and orderly. Many nurses know that it is tough. That's why so many are leaving the bedside.
