Noel Edmonds admitted live on BBC Breakfast news that he no longer pays for his TV license! Find out more about Noel's hit TV show Deal or No Deal at www.dond.co.uk
watching this, you've got to realise , those two presenters have got a team of producers screaming and flapping in their ears . However, noel is smooth as ye like. Well done Noel, top notch man.
The TV Licence is not needed at all. The BBC are using the money to make program's and then sell most of them on to other channels like Dave etc and DVDs that the Licence Fee payer paid for which they are making even more money on. Because you pay for the content on the BBC you should be allowed to keep the program's for watch. Not purchase a DVD of TopGear for example when your money paid for it in the first place.
+A2892Z That would actually be illegal. There are very strict competition laws that forbid publicly funded services competing with commercial rivals in areas other than certain public services. Broadcast TV is a public service, almost every country in the world funds a national broadcaster with public money from either a TV licence or general taxation. But selling DVDs is not a public service. If the BBC started selling DVD box sets cheap or even giving them away how could ITV compete with their DVD box sets? They'd complain to the competition authority and the BBC would be prosecuted. The BBC is legally required to sell its content at a fair market value. The BBC even has a department of thirty staff whose sold job is to negotiate selling content to BBC Worldwide, a wholly owned BBC subsidiary! Their job is to make sure nothing is sold below market value because that would be illegal and would get the BBC sued. Other examples in the past include the BBC being forced to drastically cut its website because commercial rivals complained.
My friends wife's a nurse, and she met him while he was in hospital having chin surgery. He was lovely, really respectful and inquisitive, unlike Wogan.
He didn't say that he evades the tv licence...He says he's not paying the licence...he never even said that he watches the bbc at home and doesn't pay the licence. It's not illegal to not pay a tv licence if you're not watching the TV
@HecklerBlog I don't. And BTW, the licence isn't to own a tv, it's to watch or record television programs as, or virtually as, they're being broadcast. You can own a million TV's and you don't need a licence unless you do the above.
Well done noel. Love that he was on a BBC show and stated he don't pay his licence. Class. Bet he got 'the knock' shortly afterwards though! Had them at my door today, unfortunately I was not in. Can't wait until they come back though.
Noel Edmons hits the nail squarely on the head and drives it all the way in. Bravo! I don't pay my license fee either, simply because of their bullying tactics.
I know someone who does not have a licence and she said that she does not have a tv, but, if you have a device that can receive live visual images in the likes of tv which contains a tv decoder/tuner, this warrants a tv licence, however, if you have a device which allows you to watch such as a recording of a live show, then tv licences not needed. need clarification here
A few months ago I got rid of all televisions in the house. the children started to wake up. The 10 year old wants to be an author and on her recent report her teacher said that she knew she would be one The twelve year old has started computer programming instead of playing games. Both their bikes have been seeing a bit of action their friends seem friendlier to them and they are simply happier human beings.
@TheFreemanuk the video is titled "Noel admits TV license evasion live on BBC news!" i thanked him for what he said on that subject. not about a pair of trainers. thanks
I suspect that after he started slagging off the BBC, the producers in the studio control room upstairs started badgering the presenters through their earpieces, telling them to bring it to an end quickly.
Just to note you don't actually require a TV license to OWN a television. What the TV license actually does is just allow people to receive a live broadcast. As long as the TVs aren't plugged into the arial then you'll be fine. You can have 50 televisions in your house and you'll never need a television license. You can even watch BBC Iplayer and don't need one!
Why? Did you expect it to be no punishment at all? Its a crime not to have one and they are a lot smarter at finding the people who don't have television licences than you think.
darkfight light I haven't paid since 2011 and have no intention to pay ever again. I refuse to fund fat cat bonus payoffs and kiddie fiddlers pensions. i grew up watch Noel Edmunds and if it's good enough for him it will be good enough for me. I miss bowls house party on a Saturday.. bring back Bobby.. ... he's a great entertainment presenter.
Noel is right though Why should we pay for TV license. I personally never ever watch BBC because i dont watch TV, and i would only use my TV for my Xbox and what not. i moved into my new house and a month later i had someone here from the TV licensing company telling me that i had to pay it otherwise i would be fined £1000. Now that to me is intimidating, i paid it anyway, i then got a letter last week telling me that if i hadnt have paid it, i would be taken to court and fined £1000.
It isn't about the money, it's about the principle in how they ask for it, there is a difference between "The TV License makes the BBC great [good previews]" and "Give us your money or you'll face the consequences because WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE". Imagine if your car tax renewal came through and it said "You pay now or your car will get crushed"
3,000,000 households in the UK have now stopped paying the BBC £142,50. Ignore the junk mail and slam the door in the face of the low paid employee from Capita working on commission. Join the millions of households who now follow these easy instructions.
To be clear, should anyone watch this and wonder: You can own a thousand TV's and not need a licence. Conversely, you can own zero TV's and be required to get one. Despite the name, the TV Licence has nothing to do whatsoever with owning a television. If you watch or record 'live' broadcast (BBC or not), stream live broadcast on any platform, or use BBC's iPlayer, you need a licence. If you're just using a TV to play games, watch DVD's, watch Netflix or other 'on-demand' services, you don't need one.
After being RIPPED OFF by the BBC starting the license I had in 2006, 20 days earlier than I registered the license! Very nasty customer care which doesn't give a toss.
"i honestly don't think you know much about the uk." I'm ok with that. (To make the point, however, I did know everything you just said. It doesn't mean you are right to call the EU leaders communists. This is rhetoric.
Funny how he ignored these 'threatening letters' when the BBC were paying him. The BBC, and the Post Office who collected the Radio and then TV licence before the BBC, have sent out these letters from the start in the 1920s, with the same threats, prosecutions etc. And as we found out later Edmonds was lying anyway. 'He' cancelled his licence. His wife, as he knew full well, started paying it instead. That's why they never chased him, his home had a licence all along.
+daro2096 He has a house in France but he also has a very nice and very well known house in Devon in the UK where he lives with his family, where his then wife had the licence in his name. For his house in France he will of course need a French TV licence. They require a licence for just owning a TV, whether you watch live TV or not, and they include it with their council tax so it is far harder to avoid. On the annual council tax form you are required to tick a box saying whether you have a TV or not, and you are legally required to answer and would perjure yourself if you lied. Maybe the UK should adopt that system?
While visiting England, my relatives told me that a van would come down the street with a radar device to scan the house and determine how many tv sets are in the homes. Is this true? What type of electronic equipment is used to detect a tv set in a home?
I bet Mr Edmunds hasn't been to a motorway service station since 1978! Even then I bet he wasn't hanging around handing out scratch cards and paying for people's petrol!
@mellowNdark £145.50 is a lot to some people. Noel Edmunds can afford it, but he is against the TV Licence. All i am saying is, why can't they use advertising for revenue like other channels? Also, ad breaks give you time to go to the toilet etc.
@nojyt "People disagree. You should respect that." it's the politicians that don't respect the people. how many times have the eu not respected a country's referenda? you tell me. what happened to the growth and stability pact? what about the 'no bail out clause'? when was the last time the eu was able to account for all it's money? is it 18 years in a row now 10s or 100s of millions have disappeared? (according to the ECA) i honestly don't think you know much about the uk.
As it has been mentioned, ask yourself just one....one...question. Why do I need a license for (fill in the name here)? What do DVLA really do? What does your Road Fund License really pay for when it's mostly not spent on roads? What is the need for a TV license when the programes are sold by the BBC for profit?
You're splitting hairs. Saying "the EU is headed by ex-communists etc." and "the EU leaders are communist" is basically the same thing, at least for the level of clarity we can expect on TH-cam. I didn't say there are no antidemocratic tendencies in the EU, nor did I try to defend such tendencies. In fact, if you'll kindly scroll up to my previous comments, you'll see I didn't even ADDRESS the EU in my original comment. I replied to your comparison of the UK to North America. That's it.
Spot on, Noel hit the nail on the head, we have been trained by modern society not to interact with other people and to only trust the mass media. Time to break that, more people need to get back to proper values.
The license fee pays for independent public service broadcasting across all channels. ITV and C4 get a share, which pays for things like the news and science programming. It also pays for the digital TV switchover, training of thousands of TV and radio production staff, and a heap more that all UK broadcasters benefit from. Take it away and every channel turns into Sky One. But I guess you'd like that, wouldn't you? Certainly Noel's boss, Rupert Murdoch would.
