FAMILY PLANNING...OUR PREFERRED CHOICES

  • Let’s talk family planning today 👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽
Different couples prefer to use different family planning methods: from long-acting reversible contraception, such as the implant or IUDs to hormonal contraception, such the pill or the injection. Some couples even choose to use barrier methods (condoms), emergency contraception, fertility awareness and permanent contraception, such as vasectomy and tubal ligation when they decide they’re completely done with kids.
We’re here today talking about how we handle our family planning business.
What’s your preferred family planning method and how well does it work for you?
We also pose a question to you - who do you think the responsibility of family planning should lie on?
Thank you all for watching today! Share your comments and thoughts on this video with us @bumploveug across all social media.

I've re-watched this show. I first watched it soon as it came out, then i had my 4th baby and went to my Gyn to ask about my options. I saw two doctors at the same facility and the first i saw said he can't do a BTL before 40. Then i went back and saw now my Gyn and he said as long as you sign consent, he's happy to. He said a lot of that school of thought is about the Doctor's personal school of thought or their personal beliefs.

Ladies thank you for the show. I always look forward to these episodes. Please in the next episode also discuss about the issues that come with IUD; I have heard of people who still conceive even with it and then challenges of the strings falling off, or the iud getting out of its position due to having a heavy flow etc so that people don't leave thinking that its 100 percent perfect. In my case though it is working perfectly well though, but I know that there are those exceptions to the general rule.

Most gynaecologist are afraid of doing permanent family planning method when you are young because they know you might not be ready for that commitment or you might regret when you are older and need to have more babies, they also need consent from both partners to avoid being sued later if one partner decide that they want to expand their family, not knowing whether the other partner did a permanent method of family planning.

      1. I would love to start with " the origin of giving names e.g in acholi culture where the're names are given like onenchan, opiyo, etc. Am a Madi and parents give names mostly due to circumstances they face at that moment. This has led to some of us thinking of changing of our names when we grow up or choose a different meaning according to the knowledge. My name Lindrio means no shade but I chose" this world is not my home". Another example is Santa of arapapa from "Anzoyo" to "Anzo" as once seen from a newspaper, can't remember the year. Of late people around me believe that meaning of names follow.

Am with you Pumla, I always wanted 2 kids and my decision has never changed so after the 2 kids, I made my decision and had my tubes tied because my partner didn't want any more kids but wasn't willing to have the snip

what has your experience been like? I was told of cases of early menopause when you have tubes tied e.g lower libido/dryness/heat flashes etc.
Please share if anything changed. So interested to know a personal story.

@@pumlanabachwa8668 first of all, I want to make this clear, please don't opt for tubal ligation unless you are really sure that you don't want any more children and even if you have to discuss this with your partner, the end decision has to be with the person who is undergoing the procedure. In our case, hubby didn't want more children after having the first baby but i always wanted 2 children and he knew that. So I asked him that if he felt so strongly about having one baby and no more, he should then have a snip but if he doesn't then I will have another baby. Ofcourse just like most men, that didn't sit well with him, he gave all excuses about having a snip and that was the end of the conversation. I went ahead and had my second baby. But because I only wanted 2 babies in my life, the decision was easier for me to go for the permanent procedure.
Both my babies were delivered by c-section so I consented that when I had the second c-section, the tubal ligation would be carried out after the baby was taken out. My baby is now 11 months and none of the things you have mentioned in your text have happened to me. During my research before deciding on this procedure, none of those side effects came up. The only risk which was emphasised was that if its done wrong, you risk getting some abdominal pain or pelvic pain here and there and also after along time, in some cases, the tubes could join again if the clipping method was used and risk getting pregnant......but am sure by the time my do if it were to happen, I will be in my 60s 😂😂😂 and that will mean that the procedure wasn't done properly.
But jokes aside, its 11 months now since I had the procedure and no side effects for me. Right now, I don't have to worry about getting more kids and also don't have to disorganise my hormones.
But I also think that these side effects should be looked at on individual basis. Just like the pill, it affects each person differently so my advice is don't make your decision based on general perception or hearsay. Speak to your gynecologist and assess the risks based on your body before making that decision. Sorry for the long text and waffling 🤭

It's insane that a woman cannot get her tubes tied when she chooses, regardless of her age or marital status. In Kenya, the situation is similar because the clause is that you have to be over 40. INSAAAANE
