This lady suffered terribly for so many years. How she survived and maintained her sanity is incredible. I did like this interviewer. She is very pleasant and polite.
Sinead, any Jewish survivor I have listened to have or had the same qualities - well educated, intelligent, cultured, very gracious and courteous. Puts us to shame. Janet (also Sinead in gaelic).
I feel the same too. Ours lives are good when you think of what happened during that time. I also always think to myself when life gets hard, I can survive anything. Many years ago my brother died as I was holding him. And If I survived that I can live through anything. Nothing was as traumatic as losing him. We were very close. God bless the people who lived during those horrible years. ✝️❤️
I am glad Zelda not only outsmarted the Germans, but the Latvians and Russians too. She did a brave thing, making sure the monsters were brought to justice- SALUTE!
Queen Esther, and the Worldly Miracles of Purim come to mind in listening to the testimony of this remarkable woman. Like Queen Esther, she is Regal, Courageous, and holds an unshakable Faith. A Woman of Valor who was a conduit in revealing Evil, and although she couldn’t stop the machinations of the Shoah, she spoke for the many who could never speak for themselves. Every life matters, and one life can make a difference. Never again. Never forget.
A very brave, eloquent lady and so well educated her flair for languages amazing. Shame no translation for the family comments. The daughter looked quite upset after listening to her Mothers testimony and I wonder if some of it was a total surprise. In contrast, Mrs Hait looked quite fed up with her daughter who knowing session was in English, persisted in speaking Hebrew and was evidently venting her feelings. Equally, both the grand daughters looked distinctly uncomfortable at their mothers comments
I am humbled to hear Zeldas life story. I am still amazed at any suffering and brutality towards any human because of race, religion or colour. We share this planet, our one home for us all. It is beautiful that we are all different. Brutality and pure evilness over another person/nation/religion for no other reason than bitter twisted beliefs are something we as humans MUST never forget and strive to stop happening again and again. I am watching this now as Russia has invaded the Ukraine, alas more atrocities are still happening a century later. I hope Zelda found some peace in her life. I wish her and her family, peace, love and freedom.
I couldn't agree more about the interviewer. I have noticed this as well on several other videos, and was struck by how tactless some of the questions were, and the harsh tones of voice. I find it to be particularly unfortunate considering the sensitive nature of the topic being discussed. There are some really nice and sweet interviewers as well, but I wish that whoever was in charge of this entire project could have found more compassionate people or trained their people in how to speak with survivors.
Zelda, I wish I could have met you. I wish I had seen your testimony years ago. I will never forget your name or how you and the Jewish community suffered in the hands of the Latvians. I will tell my children and grandchildren your story.
How brave and wonderful this woman was to tell her story. Her dignity and good breeding shines through every word. I am glad she survived, and thank God for her nanny and the gentlemen who were good to her and who saved her.
You kept your vow to tell what happened. You must have felt like I did. Not enough was done to dissuade people from this kind of behavior. Now the world becomes more corrupt because people are corrupt.
Zelda was born in Latvia, kidnapped by Nazis, saw many murders. Was raped, sexually tortured. And this stupid interviewer obsesses about her spelling names as if she kept record! She just cooperated. OMG, asking spelling of the name of rapist!
Since hearing the stories of so many survivors I could never set foot in Germany, Austria, Russia, Hungary, Latvia. How many other countries have this terrible, baseless and unwarranted dislike of the whole Jewish race?
A shame she didn't marry the man who rescued her. Either way, wonderful that she survived. Also, the last part is almost completely in Hebrew. Would have been nice if you could have added subtitles to it.
I can sum it up for you. The daughter talked about the effects of being a second generation had on her, how obsessed she was about the holocaust until she was 15 reading everything she could find about it and about ww2. Afterwards it was mixed with the Stalin era in the soviet union. She spoke about feeling different as a jew in Riga and that Germany does not exist for her, she never buys german products and will never travel there as a turist. She talked about her special connection to holocaust survivors that comes to light in her work as well. The granddaughter talked about not understanding her mother's feelings towards Germany at first but today when she knows more she will not buy German products as well. She does not feel different or special as a 3rd generation but I guess that's because she lives in Israel were everyone has some kind of connection to the holocaust, she says that today it's not evident in the everyday life, only on holocaust day.
The second granddaughter talked about going to see the camps in Poland, her uncertainty in going there, how horrible it was but that it really sunk in after coming back
I have watched many of these interviews and I usually don’t care for the interviewers, but this one is by far the worst I have seen , usually the interviewers only ask occasional questions allowing the people to just tell there stories, this one can’t keep quiet
It seems that on almost every video I watch on this channel, there is always someone in the comments section who mentions how bad the interviewer is. It is quite unfortunate, and it often makes me feel bad for them because it really is messed up that these people had to put up with that crap while talking about such an emotional topic. I wonder if this interviewer is also a mental health professional, because I've personally interacted with some that were surprisingly socially inept, and in one case may have also been a diagnosable sociopath. For some reason, there is something about the psychiatric field that attracts certain personalities which are not exactly the types who should be talking to emotionally vulnerable people.
this interviewer is unprofessional and intrusive. She acts as if she is constantly probing , testing, looking for discrepancies. It is humiliating for the person being interviewed and for the listener to this interview.
@@alexanderbresler9304 after reading the shoah foundation instructions for interviews, I wonder if there should not be some kind of weeding out process prior to this interview is being conducted. A lot of the interviewers seem to be pushing their own agendas for some reason.
It is to document history and to help possible survivors find their relatives..also to maybe find other people who did some of the atrocities. It is absolutely crucial to have these spellings. I am watching this in 2022...this is for future generations so no one ever forgets the human suffering.

I do the same, then I look at all I have to be grateful for and whatever down feeling I have passes. Music helps a lot too for me.

Why is there no translation in English from Zeldas daughter.
I swear I've watched this three times. this is like the most amazing powerful story ever I'm writing a paper about it for my thesis (jewish studies)
What is your thesis?
You should watch another powerful story, that of Sol Adler- MANY close calls.

Amazing story from an incredible woman....
Very strong woman. I think instead of interviewing they should give the survivors questions to cover because it interrupts the flow of her narrative.
Translation would have been vital to understand the family comment. So disappointed
too bad there is no subtitles for when Naomi speaks Hebrew
