What mysterious animals beaked whales are. They aren't super active like dolphins and not as chatty as other whales. They live most of their lives complete darkness and rarely surface.

You can tell that the first one has fallen victim to a cookie cutter shark.

Great video...better late than never. One would think they are slightly bigger than a dolphin. It took seeing the sick Japanese dissecting one to see how large they are.

The Blainville's Beaked Whale isn't much bigger than the largest beaked dolphins. The huge ones that the Japanese hunt are the Baird's Beaked Whales. They can indeed grow to over 40 ft in length. All of them are so wonderful though. If only we could harpoon the Japanese whalers!

Some are large, some are small, either way their consumption is mainly centered in Oceania, not Japan, these species can be harvested in a sustainable manner and promote international laws in the management of oceans.

Interestingly enough, beaked "whales" are related to South American river and estuarine dolphins. I wouldn't be surprised if these animals are actually highly introgressive and concurrent to other cetaceans of the past, given they all apparently adapt to extreme environments for other cetaceans: they are all either deep water, highly specialized or extreme water conditions animals (ineas lives in tannin rich black water, something unusual even for river dolphins, aside muddy water).

That isn’t a beaked whale. They have super long necks like plesiosaurs. Duhhhh

Редкие кадры. Если не ошибаюсь этим толстячкам принадлежат два рекорда: глубина погружения - 3 километра, и длительность погружения - 137 минут. Цифры остужают голову тем, кто думает, что они хорошо ныряют ))

Beaked whales arent related to dolphins. They are in their own family - Ziphiidae. Which contains 22 species.

No, they can't. Because they don't resist the captivity.

why would one want to 'train' them?

@The Magic Twister Most pets are land animals though. Can't exactly have a tank the size of an ocean which is exactly what whales/dolphins need

This comment chain sees a beautiful, intelligent species far away from human interference, and has it only in their mind to ask if they can keep it as pets. This isn't a dog, this hasn't lived alongside humans for thousands of years, this creature is naturally free. It would be a great injustice to start keeping them as pets.
