I am old enough where I sat and watched Ray Guy kick, I've also seen Shane punt. Coffin corner, placement, athletic ability, guy is superior in every aspect. There isn't a punter that's ever lived that can touch him.
ray guy from thomson ga where i'm from, he won a state title in football, the next day scored 39 points in a basketball game. also that same year pitched a 15 inning baseball playoff game where the opponent didn't score. He was an athlete and a hell of a punter the best ever.
A 7th round draft pick shitting on a first ever 1st round draft pick punter tells me he's an ungracious crybaby because he was edged out of the top 100 spot. Not only could Guy punt but her could kick off and had great hands and presence of mind under pressure. McAfee isn't worthy of holding Ray Guy's jock strap
I haven't seen NOBODY put hang time from punting much less can make a football curve while it is that high in the air like Ray Guy can.. And even Madden said it.. Guy was one of the MAIN reasons that the Raiders won the Superbowl.. Also has 3 SUPERBOWL RINGS..He earned and deserve to be the 1st punter to be in the H.O.F...Why McAfee Hating..
Agreed. Pat is wrong here because Guy took the practice field as a defensive back until Madden went crazy. Ray Guy was a natural athlete & a true football player.
Dude a banana kick is one of the most easiest punts to learn. And look at Marquette king and Thomas Morstead who could consistently get a ball over five seconds of hang time. His punts were loose spirals and hardly ever turned over. He contributed a lot to the craft I will admit but he is not as good as some of the punters in the league now.
@@YourMom-bq1bz he didn't just kick he tackled he can throw he can run break tackles watch his highlights he was a goat in special teams that's the reason why hes in the hall of Fame
Dylan Jennings - I’ll never forget the stir caused when d Raiders chose him #1. Everybody thought they were nuts. Then they started seeing what an OFFENSIVE weapon a great punter could be. I’ve never seen any punter since who could consistently stick the ball inside the five yard line like him... let alone the ONE yard line.
Ray Guy was and IS the best punter ever. When we were playing together in Thomson, I ran a 11 second hundred, but Ray could put those punts so high in the air it usually gave me time to get downfield and take the first shot at the receiver. I'm nothing, but Ray Guy is a true legend when it comes to his ability to play the game(s). AJPavliscsak #72 THS '67
You got to be young. Go back and see what the coaches who played against Ray Guy had to say about him. No other punter in the game ever kept teams inside the 10 yard line. He can angle a punt inside the 10 yard line time after time and the ball is kicked out of bound. IF he was this good at doing this within the 10 yard line, just think about how many returns they got inside the 20.
Hey Pat, can you angle a kick out of bounds with the same consistency and change games? Didn't think so. Your 4 blocked punts out of 575 is far more than Guy's 3 of 1049 as is your 6 TDs allowed...what happened? Out kicked your coverage for the sake of a few yards? Guess you did not learn the art of 'hang time." Ray Guy would have been just a good today with the increase in training, computer assisted technology, emphasis on lifting weights. That's why the top punter award in college is name the "Ray Guy Award." It will never be the "Pat McAfee Award" that should be reserved for envious, entitle players....which means many would actually qualify for that.
On the contrary, McAfee was nowhere near the punter Ray Guy was, not only could he kick it a mile with great hang time but he could place his punts exactly at the spot he wanted. McAfee is either jealous or ignorant, maybe both.
You’re going to sit here and tell me that you have a complete knowledge of the selection process for a punter award? Yeah OK. I’m sure everybody will buy that
Pat McAfee doesn’t have a once of class. That’s why none of these NFL cats are respected anymore. His statement was completely contradictory. First he said that Ray couldn’t hold the jocks of the new players then says he could have competed if he had the same training they have. Regardless, the dude is a clown.
Pat McAfee comparing player who played in different ERAS Really??? There's no way to prove or find out who's better so why have this conversion! Stupid stupid stupid!!!
Ray Guy's career average punt was 42.4 yards from the line of scrimmage Pat McAfee (who isn't even in the conversation for all time great punters) averaged 46.4 Most NFL punters today are statistically and factually better than Ray Guy
My problem with Ray Guy as a punter in the HOF is that I would question if any punter makes enough average difference during the course of a games to be elected into the Hall of Fame. Compared to the average punter of Guy's era, Guy was worth about 7 yards per game. Why not put into the HOF Brian Mitchell who has far more punt return yards than anyone in NFL history?
RIP - to Ray Guy - he REMAINS the GOAT of punters.
Ray guy was the best punter of all time, regardless of whatever Pat says.

Ray Guy is the greatest punter in NFL history.

Ray Guy hit the scoreboard in the Astrodome and was 100 times tougher than McAfee. McAfee played for the Coddled Colts in the touch football era.
Throwin' shade at Ray Guy?
What does Pat McAfee know? HUH. He talks like he's a PUNTER or something.
Ray Guy hit the ceiling of the superdome... over 5 seconds of hang time average... he doesn't know Ray Guy

RIP Ray Guy, only 3 of his 1049 career punts got blocked
Ray Guy best punter ever. Should have been first ballot H.O.F.
Shane Lechler vs Ray Guy now that is a good comp but Ray is the Michael Jordan and Lebron James of the Special Teams world.
All special teams?
I love Pat McAfee but Ray Guy is the best punter of all time. He's way off base.
Ray Guy was a DB, who got 8 intercepts in a year. He could run with the ball and a goid tackler.

McAfee I could listen to most the day. I relate to his Sarcasm. Ray Guy is the best.
Lol I guess most people felt the same way you did because he's single handedly reviving ESPNs former glory
Yeah, if you have a room at Guantanamo Bay.
McAfee is always funny and love that rant about Guy.
He ain't wrong about LeLacher though.

I disagree. He would be very good at carrying Ray Guy's jock strap.

Bahahahahahaha! Ray Guy had nothing to do with who picked the Ray Guy award winner...he specifically stays out of the voting/choosing.

Ray Guy was good for his time but punters from back then sucked. There's no sugar coating it. They sucked. All of them.
