Annika your ad at the end was hilarious! :') "Difficult as FRICK!" HAHAHAHA. Also loved your cute styling tips with the snazzy arrow annotations at the end, plus you and Luci are very sweet together. If it's possible, perhaps you could scan in some pages from that book, it looks awesome and I'd love to take a gander or try a couple myself. Given that its a vintage book now, you....might be ok scanning it in and sharing? Idk for sure tho :)

When I saw you adding the extra 'bumps' I heard myself scream 'nooooo, stop' lol Then I did it again when you ripped out the seam and re-cut instead of just restitching the seams straight right over the existing ones and trimming off the excess. Girl, you work too hard. :) Wonderful job really. If someone else wants to make this without the book, they can extend the top of loose fitting elastic shorts pattern to their torso length. Also, using ribbon ties would make this pattern even less work or for a different look, make shirred straps that don't tie but stretch enough to get your arms through.

Don't worry about being rude, just ask your questions. Weak people may be offended, but it's only because they are weak, not because the question shouldn't be asked. More often than not, offensive questions should always be asked.

@@KayYisoo she is right on both accounts tough. Some people don't want to hear measurements, so they don't have to compare their own ones to them. To be honest, this is also something were I would say you need to grown thicker skin, you can't let little things like this get to you.
As for the word choice, I assume you have a korean background. It's just a cultural difference, respectful doesn't always have to mean timid, it just depends on the customs.

    • @maureenp2248
      @maureenp2248 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@strawberrycheesecake5502 @Deborah Ellis @이아즈 The trigger warnings are for people with eating disorders. If someone with an eating disorder sees small body measurements, it can trigger them to start restricting/purging again, which is really unhealthy. This doesn't have anything to do with measurements being somehow offensive or with average people being too sensitive -- It's really just trying to be considerate to people who have serious mental illnesses. It's similar to how people with PTSD often need to avoid watching violent movies so they don't have flashbacks.

Really awesome video! Please do more from the book.
In the 1980s, I taught my girls how to sew a tube top similar to the top of that romper. So it was just a rectangle to cut out. They put elastic in the top and bottom instead of shirring. They were 5 and 7 years old. Your pattern (with elastic casings instead of shirring could easily have been a follow up project the next summer.
I am thrilled that you are helping bring back sewing.
I love your videos--you are so clever. I just remarked to my husband the other day that I needed to make some fabric storage baskets. He was surprised that I had learned how from a TH-cam video! 😘

I just remembered, why I gave up sewing in the late 80s... pattern instructions often were anything but clear.
The good thing was: We could wear any size, back then, because garments weren’t fitted.

Congrats. You just had your first lesson in waist suppression in pattering. For reference, Threadz magazine has an online article for pattern grading if you ever need to resize a pattern. If you just need to add a little more fabric to a circumference, the slash and spread method will keep things nice and evenly distributed.

Fantastic content as always Miss Annika! I am very impressed that you put a disclaimer and time stamps surrounding the "average" body measurements of the book. It doesn't bother me but it's rare to find a content creator that is so compassionate and thoughtful towards their audience. I'm thinking the small measurements may partly be connected to the fact that the book was originally Japanese. On average people of East Asian heritage are smaller in stature. Again this is a big generalization and it may totally be because of sample sizing in fast fashion.

Yes, please sew more patterns from this book! As someone who loves Japanese fashion and who started garment sewing in the ‘80s I want to see more! A lot of pattern drafting software programs just give you the pattern pieces and no instructions so you do have to be a semi-experienced sewist before attempting them. Also Marfy (Italian) patterns have no instructions. I was surprised you didn’t compare your measurements to the pattern you drafted before you cut the fabric out. I always compare my measurements to the pattern’s measurements to figure out ease and fit. If you had done so, you wouldn’t have made your waist bump. Remember that to get the romper onto your body you had to step into it, so it had to fit over your largest measurement - hips and bust - without any added width so of course it would fit your narrowest measurement- waist - with lots of ease. I hope I explained myself correctly. I truly enjoy your videos and tutorials.

When i saw what you did to the waist i IMMEDIATELY KNEW SOMETHING WOULD GO WRONG BUT WAOW THAT WAS GORGEOUS. On a more serious note: what I would have done there would be to cut the pattern neatly in half heightwise and add a rectangular pannel to the middle of the pattern to keep all the measurements even when augmenting the waist measurement. Since this isnt a fitted garnment i would not have minded just making it all bigger, and as you so wisely pointed out, its easier to remove fabric than to add it later. Anyways I dont expect this would ever fit me otherwise, so augmenting everything would be the way to go for me. I love this video, and seeing your process in figuring out this m e s s y unclear pattern
PLEASE MORE VIDEOS BASED ON THIS BOOK

Maybe a stash buster video for the future could be a sewing weights ideo? Like using scraps.

Annika, thank you so much for adding a content warning for discussion of body measurements and sizes! As someone who is in recovery from an eating disorder, it really excites me to see others who are conscious of how body measurements and size discussions can be upsetting to others. I also love that you are so open and honest in your videos about how living with chronic illness impacts you!! 💕💕💕

i’m in year 12 and at the end of every term we dress up according to a theme. this term i’m going as Fionna the human from adventure time (the theme is opposites) and i decided to make all the parts of my costume from scratch and base it off patterns and things i’ve seen online. i don’t follow the instructions. ever. and i’m not much of a sewer, so this video was very relatable, i loved it ❤️
