Purslane- Scientific: Portulaca oleracea. Is found everywhere basically and is edible. Highest in Omega-3 Fatty Acids (more than all other vegetables and some fish). This plant DOES come with a warning and awareness at the end. Enjoy and remember if you can't control it, eat it.
"Also present in purslane are two types of Betalin alkloid pigments,
the reddish beta-cyanins and yellow beta-xanthin. Both of these
pigment types are potent anti-oxidants and have ben found to have
    anti-mutagenic properies in laboratory studies."

This is a very well known vegetable in my country , Lebanon. We have a very green and fresh kind , we call it Bakli. We add it to our famous Fattoush salad , we make small pies with it called fatayer . Thanks for the valued information of this neglected plant..I have it in my garden most of the year.

I remember this plant when I was young, we used to collect them and chopped them and then boiled to feed our pigs mixed with leftover food scraps. All the neighbourhood were doing it as we have plenty. Now it's very scarce and will be lucky to find one. No wonder our pigs taste good and we did not know it was healthy too. That was in the Philippines, I just recently went there for holiday and I did not see any at all. I now live in Australia and I got them growing like crazy around my front & backyard. Lucky I don't use pesticide so I can eat them safely. Thanks for the video.

Complex creation is proof of God the Creator.
Evolutionism is a religion of believing nothing exploded into the universe and non-biochemistry created biochemistry. It is taught in schools as 'fact' by anti-God people and pseudo believers to justify their lifestyles.
Temporary life is to prepare us for eternal life with or without God.
There are unlimited God-honoring good things to think about and to do.
Why do the eternally pathetic stuff?

This vegetable was a common staple back in the Colonial America... Everyone used it in all their cooking much like how we use tomatoes with a lot of dishes... I think the government kinda removed this from the public eye because it was healthy and free... Like I said.. everyone used to eat tons of this stuff here in America.. it wasnt till the past 100 or so years that people stopped knowing about it like they used to... This is what happens when markets open up selling you stuff that isnt found in everyones yard... Just liek Marijuana.. which grew all over teh country.. the government went out of their way spraying the country with weed killer to remove this plant from existence because the gov wanted to sell people Nylon instead of hemp(again which everyone grew) . Im glad people re-discovered this plant.

It wasn't so much the government as it was greedy multinationals and their legion of lobbyist who bought off and or persuaded politicians into voting a certain way. Take away this lobbying tool by corporations and so will go this extreme form of abuse.. Aside from behind closed doors "which would be illegal" and investigatable corruption.

IMPORTANT WARNING: The poisonous weed spurge actually will grow up as well, so don't harvest purslane by grabbing handfuls or you can get some spurge along with it.
On my property this is quite pronounced. Spurge grows both along the ground and upwards, especially among the purslane we have.

I grow up eating this plant in Mexico. Specially in salsa roja/or verde: in red or green salsa with pork. It should be leafy bright green and the stems should be greenish purples, eat it before it blooms, it grows straight up in moist soil, it spreads low if there’s not enough water. In my home town we called it Verdolaga.

I can almost guarantee you have come across this plant that most people spend money on chemicals to kill it. Purslane is probably one of the most delicious plants that will add a nice crunch to your salad and some added nutrients. Specifically, this is one of the best sources of Omega-3 Fatty Acids...even more than some fish!
Check out the video for more information on how to boost your summer salad. Clean up you diet, while cleaning up your yard.

Making It Easy with Liz are you in the US? I need some seeds because mine has been annihilated by the h o a where I have to live right now. Glad to have a roof over my head but upset about the way they treat nature. and the way they treat me. I would be happy to pay a small amount of money for seeds or even if you could send a plant and get it to live I believe seats would be safer let's check and see how close we are I'm in the northwest. That's how sad we've treated my state there are no good weeds left. we picked Dandy lions that had Roots the size of the handle of the tool that I was digging with and I was so excited to cut them up and dry them and make them into different things and we had the leaves and we had the buds in the springtime sauteed with garlic we've made so many yummy things with them pick them this year. had to put them in the fridge and two days later they died down they had been sprayed with a great big compressor truck that looks like an oil truck they were sprayed with a hose like a fire hose! the score just field of dandelions with gigantic roots! what a shocking and disappointing thing but luckily I didn't have time to use them right away and got to see that they were sprayed or we would have been so sick or dead! they've done that to the Natural blackberries here also not the Siberian but the tiny ones that grow on the ground the natural ones to the northwest.

Blessed are The Mother and The Father who are in Heaven, who are our Haven, who provided this beautiful Garden of Eden for us to live in. If some of us don't think THIS IS THE GARDEN, then try and live on any other planet in the Solar system. Synchronicity! I was just working on my vegetable garden and noticed this particular "weed". Instead of pulling and killing it I just transplanted it to a container because it "spoke to me". I came in to peruse TH-cam and Lo and behold! There was YOUR video! I put it in with my "green drink" and it was awesome. I also ate a few sprigs -delish! I am your fan. May the Green Godless bless you! People this video is true.

Vida Sherman I wrote above about the person that has been made into a domestic plant. Though it may not be poison it doesn't contain any of these goodies! They even sell seeds for plain-looking purslane but it's Giant and it's been bred to produce but it doesn't have any of the goodies that the wild weed does. and although it's beautiful you certainly don't want it breeding with any of your wild stuff and ruining it. luckily normally the domesticated plants will go back to the wild before wild go to domestic obviously but had to say it anyway I hope that helps!

    • @gomezaddams6470
      @gomezaddams6470 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

LVNCSR it is a wild weed if you buy it it's been domesticated and there's no nutrition in it or any of the other properties! it literally will just be growing on the ground somewhere and you're lucky if you can find it with all the building in the cities and the rural places where I lived it was everywhere now I finally found some last year and we had drought for the first time in Seattle all summer long and we had a tiny actually large natural spring in the woods near me Woods meaning about two acres so all of the rabbits squirrels birds were dying of thirst. Unfortunately I'm stuck in a condominium and you can't put out water for the birds!? This place is horrid but I'm lucky I have a roof over my head back to the purslane. I found some baby plants in the soil over at the church where they brought it in to make Gardens for the kids it's some property adjacent to where I live so I carefully dug them up and put them in a planter and they were growing really well and the only two baby squirrels that made it in this area found in my garden they ate every tomato on my lettuce and then they found the purslane and they ate it straight out of the ground so I didn't even get it to seed once. so I didn't get any to come up this year. They sell it and seeds at the plant nurseries but it's been domesticated and it is void of all of these nutrients that are talked about. one thing that was left out to is it feeds your microbiome which is your gut where all the good bacteria live. I would take a drive out to the country and look for it I thought I found some at the park but it's the poison kind I put my glasses on and I was so disappointed it's so easy to recognize with the thick Leaf it's almost like the plant that people keep in the house called a jade plant has a very thick Leaf filled with moisture almost a slime. once you get past that you're fine it's very tart almost slightly lime without the bitter taste. everybody tasted a little different but as long as it has this thick leaves you're okay. I need to go looking for it and start growing it in the house during the winter. I also used to just lay it out on screens outside and let it dry and then I would grind it into a powder and add it to things like soup just as the soup was done and cooled a bit I don't like to overcook things those enzymes once you get past 118 degrees Fahrenheit it kills so much of the vitamins and enzymes that help us use anything that's in our food. I haven't been able to read the warning on here because it's so tiny and I'm on my phone I'm assuming he's talking about oxalates but I haven't gotten there yet that's something that can build up in your kidneys and cause kidney stones and it does have a lot of oxalates. But so does iceberg lettuce and it has no nutrition. all greens have oxalates. Happy Hunting

Back where I grew up, I never knew that this is edible by human instead we used this weed as a feed for hogs and our hogs are fat. As invasive as they are, the pigs are happy.

Your welcome. Yea this one took over where I was experimenting with a different way to grow a pineapple (didn't work obviously ha). Purslane found its way in there and took off. With the neighbors and dogs barking it was easier to take that one to a quieter place and shoot the video. Thanks again!

Purslane- Scientific: Portulaca oleracea. Is found everywhere basically and is edible. Highest in Omega-3 Fatty Acids (more than all other vegetables and some fish). This plant does come with a warning and awareness put up at the end. Enjoy and remember if you can't control it, eat it.
