    Thank you. I just discovered it in my backyard. I tasted a leaf and felt that it numbed my mouth a bit. No buggy, but I wonder if that’s normal. I liked the lemonish taste. It was a bit salty too. Is that normal? I want to make a tincture with it.

    Thanks so much for this information. It's great to see a homesteading channel in the PNW! I'm in the Portland area, and we are working on getting a better garden this year, and hoping to meet more people trying to do the same thing. Your video on planting fruit trees was really helpful, and that's how I found your channel. I'd love to see more people interested in homesteading start networking locally!

      @@HappyAppleCoreHomestead Thanks for asking! Some friends and I just got together late last month and had a 'seed starting party', where we just brought a bunch of seeds we wanted to plant, and got them started in little pots. I'm sure we planted way more than we can actually handle, but at least it's a start? Lettuce, cabbage, radish, tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, herbs, to name a few! Are you planting anything new this year?

      @@cheerfulsunflowers I'm of the mind that it's never too much when it comes to growing.
      I am growing about 90-110 different plants this year, some new things are marigold (which I have always bought as starts but growing from seed this year), feverfew, milkweed and calendula. I'm not remembering all the new ones but probably about a dozen or so new plants to me.

      I use an infused purslane oil as a component in many salves. So it kinda depends on what you need it for but in case this is helpful, here's how I make a basic salve. With purslane though just make sure to really grind it up before drying because it's so wet!!!

    I really enjoy eating this raw. Does it have the same benefits raw, or does it have to be prepared in some form ie; salve, tincture or tea?

      That's an excellent question and YES! It does have the same medicinal benefits, perhaps even more. A tea or tincture would be a higher concentration but eating raw, in my opinion, is superior when you can get it fresh. Teas and tinctures are great for when it's not in season.

      Purslane takes forever to dry out. I like to chop mine up before putting in the dehydrator, makes it go a lot faster but even at that it can still take a couple days. If you dry yours out in the sun I would still give them a good chop first because they're full of water.

    • @HappyAppleCoreHomestead
      @HappyAppleCoreHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an excellent question. Eating purslane is helpful for lupus symptoms so it's possible the purslane salve could help. It's definitely good for things like psoriasis and eczema. The face rash from lupus though is systemic, if you're experiencing an irritated rash though the salve could help. Since purslane is growing now in this season, if you can get a hold of some I'd add fresh purslane to your diet and see if it helps. A tincture or tea might be good too for the seasons it can't be found fresh.

    I live on 1.5 acres in town. About half of that is grass, or used to be anyway. The purslane and goat heads (puncture vine) have exploded this year, all around town. The two of them are fighting to take over my grass. *I* don't mind if the purslane grows all over, as I'm hoping it will A) choke out the goat heads and B) be a nice groundcover and edible as well. My question is should I allow it to take over or should I start digging it up now before it DOES take over? Thanks in advance to anybody in the know.

    • @HappyAppleCoreHomestead
      @HappyAppleCoreHomestead  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Okay so full disclosure I know virtually nothing about Goats head yet so hopefully someone else will chime in on that one.
      However Purslane and I know each other well and I can promise it will take over if given half a chance. Usually it's ground cover "like" that spreads wide and pretty but the purslane starts I planted this year grew UP instead of out , not sure why. The purslane that reseeded itself from last year however is doing what I expected and is filling in every available space it can ON the ground. It's pretty hardy too and comes back every year so I suppose we can't go wrong with a good source of vegan iron!

      @@HappyAppleCoreHomestead Thank you! I was trying to figure out if it was bad invasive or good invasive. LOL
      As for goat heads they are something everyone hates with a passion. I've lived at this place for seven years and for seven summers I've tried to get rid of them. They do...not...die. Well, they do, sort of. But, they come back with a vengeance. If you think stepping on a Lego is bad, step on one of these babies. And the seeds are good for 5, or maybe it's 10, years. It's best to dig them up or burn them, but we live in the desert so I refrain from burning. They are a nightmare. That's why I hope the purslane wins! LOL

    Does it help with ADHD?

    • @HappyAppleCoreHomestead
      @HappyAppleCoreHomestead  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's an amazing question. It definitely is an anti depressant and it's super high in Omega 3 which many studies have shown can prevent ADHD.
      I don't have any personal experience treating ADHD with Purslane but in all honesty it's not going to hurt to add it to your diet.
      The one thing to take note of is it DOES reduce the effects of caffeine so if you're treating ADHD with caffeine it will reduce this effect.
