    Turn on the turning signals when you have to move away from the lane. Lane assist will disengage.

    I have had my SFW for 5 months. Yes, that cubby hole is useless (I installed an aftermarket wireless charger from AMZ that fits in there). No, the steering assist doesn't bother me as I only use it on highway driving. If you activate the turn signal prior to lane change (which you should anyway) the steering assist is released until lane change is complete. I know all Manufacturers fudge the MPG# so I always subtract 3 from the sticker of 25/28. I will wait until the car gets broken in (at least 3K) before give a final ruling. Right now (last trip) I was at 25.3 (70%H 30%C). Try leaving the transmission in ( I ) mode or maybe you are driving with a lead foot. I am at a loss to explain why your mileage and mine differ so much.

    I bought a 2022 Forester Premium in California not quite 2 months ago, and I have fallen in love with Subarus all over again.
    I used to own a 1984 Subaru Hatchback for 10 years/100,000 miles with a 1600cc engine, got 42 MPG highway, and it drove/handled in the snow/ice like a champ with only FWD. I only sold it to buy a larger car for an expanding family.
    I've gotten 35 MPG with my Forester on highway driving between 65 and 70 MPH. When driving faster, I usually get 33+ MPG. Combined MPG is usually about 28 to 29 MPG.

    For highway driving from Pittsburgh to the outer banks NC I got 33mpg in my forester wilderness. That’s with luggage and 4 people as well. Granted I wasn’t pushing 80 the whole time but it’s good road trips. As a guy, I find it relatively easy to overpower the steering assist but I do understand the frustration.
    Overall I absolutely love my forester wilderness. It had no issues with the 4x4 beach and is a great daily driver. HIGHLY recommend

    I’m getting less than 20 mpg in city driving in this thing. The main reason is lack of power in the naturally aspirated engine, I’m typically closer to 3,000 rpm just to keep up with freeway traffic here in SoCal. This car could really use a turbocharged V6 with like 300 hp, it would have been awesome. Love everything else about it though.

    • @Scybren

      My wrx drops to like 14-16mpg in the city with the closest relative turbo engine that the forester could get.
      I agree a v6 or something bigger would be better.

    Have a 2022 Forester Premium in NZ. Done 4000 kms mixed driving and have averaged 7.4 l/100 km which I am happy with. An annoying thing is a marked hesitation / jerk at 1300 - 1400 rpm on very light throttle. Feels like a misfire but no fault codes. Back to dealer next week to see if they can fix it.

    The Steering Assist is also called Lane Keep / Centering Assist. It makes sure that the vehicle is in between the two lanes. It can also be called as the "No hands driving until it tells you to put hands on the steering wheel". 😂 That's why it is somewhat difficult to control the wheel when it is activated.

    First, thanks for the personal review. I have a Wilderness, approximately 7,000 miles, I’ve averaged 25.6 mpg so be patient. I’m also annoyed a bit at the lane keep mode, I had a 2020 Touring and it wasn’t as aggressive, the touch screen graphics don’t bother me, the cubby for charging phones makes me wonder, as great as the changes for this model are, the awesomeness of its off road capabilities are, whoever thought that mini space is adequate should look for a new line of work! But considering the more aggressive tires and suspension and CVT upgrades this model is a home run😎👍

  • @jensejayehudson4341
    @jensejayehudson4341 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Safety system is poor, it sees glare as lines and moves the car. Distance slams on the brakes. Cubby is worthless. Radio turns itself back on after turning off the car so I don’t use the infotainment or radio in my car. Mileage in mine is identical. Driving it home with 4 miles on it the console rattled but got it fixed. One touch windows and roof are nice. Backup camera is great. Seats and mats are awesome. The door handle open and lock took some getting used to. Still like the car but don’t love it like an older one.

    I have a 2019 in australia. Just did a 5000 kilometre round trip interstate, mixed highway, suburbs and off ride trails …. totally loved the drive, great lights for the night, auto hi, auto wipers, seat comfort, variable speed, eyesight system …. Etc etc. had the 2019 Nissan xtrail (top of range) 4x4 … the ford Everest turbo 3.2 diesel, now the forester…. Totally enjoy the driving … yep, pain in the but, switching off the auto stop/start and the lane assist … but hey, getting 7.3-7.8 litres per 100 is and that’s with roof boot racks and stuff up top, fridge, gear and a bed in the boot/rear …. We probably will not see the wilderness here …. So I’ll stick with what I’ve got …. Happy trails … ✌🏼

    My 21 Forester Sport EASILY gets 33-35 on the highway if you keep it under 70. I know the wilderness is a little more thirsty, but not that much. You must have been going 90 or had the tires under inflated.

The STEERING ASSIST "feature"(?)l.....IS ABSOLUTE JUNK AND SHOULD BE DELINEATED FROM ALL NEW SUBARU PRODUCTS. Oddly.....YOU are the very first reviewer that I have watched.....that actually shows people that it can be shut off! The others all call it a "flaw" with the new Subarus. Very accurate review.....of a really terrific car.

    I'm totally with you on the lane assist complaint. I had an opportunity to drive the 2021 Forester Sport for a couple months this summer, and in many ways it was a huge upgrade over my '16 XT, but I really didn't like how much I felt like I was arguing with safety features all the time. The car was beeping at me relentlessly every time I drove, and I wasn't even being unsafe. I'm still getting the '22 Wilderness, but it'll take some time for me to not be irritated by that.

    I have the steer assist on my Crosstrek, you kidding? This is a great feature! If you're turning, use your blinkers correctly (like you should) and this feature doesn't fight you. Also on the road, if you have to look down, get something or whatever this feature will drive your car hands free temporarily. When this feature alarms you to put your hands back on the wheel, it is still working; it just doesn't shut off. Great feature...

    2 things I thought were wrong here, imo.
    For your last complaint, I completely disagree with calling the lane centering aid as a "safety system". Idk why you called it that when you correctly labeled it as a driving aid first.
    The thing is not going to drive for you and do all the things you would as a driver. It's there to aid you on a long drive or maybe a short straight /proper road and does what it's meant to which is keep your vehicle between lanes and only that. First time driving this vehicle i also thought it was going to do most of the driving with little to no input but after driving through a construction zone the eyesight didn't catch that original lanes were still visible and they lead directly to a concrete barricade, had I trusted the system like a dumb dumb I would've crashed on day 1 of owning this vehicle.
    (also if you use your turn signals to make a turn or switch lanes it disengages for you so you can properly move the steering wheel and then it turns back on afterwards)
    The last thing was your MPG. Even during the first hundreds of mile I was getting 21.5 of mixed driving and 27+ in the highway depending if it was a windy day and what not. I have no idea why your hway miles are so low

    I’ve been complaining to Subaru about the “Safety” features of the car. Far to many issues. Some glitchy and some just down right dangerous. Like the car slamming on the breaks. Wonder if the tires and higher ground clearance hurt fuel mileage. Our Subaru Forester Sport gets 28-30 around town and 30-33 on the height way. Only gets bad mileage in the winter with winter fuel. Very much agree on the steering Assisi usually turn it off when driving my wife’s Forester. We also turn off in winter because it thinks snow along the road is the line.

    • @HomesteadOnThePreserve
      @HomesteadOnThePreserve ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest thing in the Wilderness editions (i just bought a 2022 Outback Wilderness) that hurt fuel economy is the lower gear ratios. Not sure on the Forester W but the Outback W has a 444 ratio which is quite low and gives you the torque you want and need. OBW highway MPG is rated even lower than the FW MPG at only 26 but worth it if your going off road!

    I like the flat load floor when the rear seats are folded down. Is it long enough that a 6' person can lay down?
    I've never been a fan of adaptive cruise control because there are times when a slightly slower vehicle gets in front of you and your car gradually slows down. If you're not paying 100% attention, you can end up driving along at a slower speed than you initially set. It's happened to me in my wife's Outback and in tractor-trailers where the cruise is set for, say, 70 but eventually, I realize I'm only doing 65. I'd much rather work the cruise control myself rather than rely on the vehicle to do it for me.
    I've never been a fan of all that heavy-looking body cladding, either, and the bronze accents seem sort of scattered. I'd much rather see a bronze alloy wheel and bronze accent stitching on the interior and leave it at that. Less is more sometimes.
    I agree that the screen in the center stack looks ancient. But if it's functional and reacts quickly then I could live with that. I'm pleased that they stuck with knobs/buttons for the HVAC, too.
    IIRC, the Wilderness Editions - both Forester and Outback - have a lower overall gear ratio than the rest of their lines so that could be a reason for the lower than desired fuel economy.

    You're only getting 23 miles per gallon with that little toy engine and car? I get 23 miles per gallon with my 2010 4400 lb all-wheel drive Ford Taurus on a so-so day! Subaru likes to improve everything except that toy engine they've done nothing with for 30 years, let's be real, a small 4-cylinder boxer engine is nothing for those vehicles, they need to get their shit together and enhance that thing!

    The thing that makes Subaru a no go for so many is not the vehicles- it’s the stereotypical type of person that drives them.

      @@castandblast1852 As a Veteran I just watched as Republicans voted down a bill for cancer benefits to veterans exposed to burn pits. You obviously are not a veteran nor one who cares about those who are. And to the 42 Republican Senators that voted “no” today on the PACT ACT: we are coming for you. Your phones will not stop ringing, your offices will have veterans lined up outside for you daily. Come election time, get ready for us veterans to show up to your meet-and-greets - there, you’ll have to look us in the eye and tell us why we don't deserve our VA benefits to be expanded.

    🤮 The orange/copper/whatever accent stuff is just freakin cheesy and HIDEOUS!!! I really want this car but if I wanted goofy pointless style accents that were colored orange, I’d ask for that trim package. Hate that Subaru made a commitment to a style that pigeonholes this appearance of this car to the person who is okay with that orange-y garbage.
