- Sky News host Steve Price says twice as many hospitality businesses have been “going bust” as they were ten years ago.
Mr Price said Independent Food Distributors Australia warns we could soon be facing $10 coffees and $100 steak and chips if nothing gets done about rising costs.
“Everything has gone through the roof.”
Seriously, cut the government jobs and cut the taxes
And cut their over priced wages and pay rises right down.
Adding guvment jobs is NOT 'growth'. Biden is touting guvment jobs creation as 'helping' the economy. A sad, demented fool.
@@georgekordis4268 Notice how the only time parliament is standing room only is when it's time for them to vote for a pay rise?
Yes get rid of bloated useless govt sector. I’m tapped out. I refuse to pay $7 coffees.
Australia is completely out of control
The rising generation are stuffed…
@@addamr2052 yep, nothing the same since that first lockdown
When families are paying an extra $18,000 extra on their mortgage, an extra thousand on their energy bill and higher insurance plus increased prices for groceries a year, buying a coffee or eating out at a restaurant becomes a luxury.
An unaffordable luxury for too many people. I bring my own coffee now. I don’t think I will ever buy a cup of coffee again.
@@birgittabirgersdatter8082 I eat out or takeout once a month and head to a cafe once a week for just a large coffee which costs $5.50…I can make the same coffee at home for 50c
Thank you Labor

Australia is already crazy expensive. I cant visit Australia to see family and friends anymore as the costs there are ridiculous

Well this country was better when we made cars, fridges, TVs, washing machines etc. instead of coffee & toast. Less cafes & more factories!

All the dimwits in the comments saying don't buy the coffee, make it at home etc. - You're missing the point 🙄
Exactly
But Labor says everything is fine............. for them since they're big pay rises.
Tax is way too high 😶
You aren’t telling us anything new.....get ready for closed cafes and restaurants and retailers
Australians are getting screwed. I'm an expat. I live in a country where they buy Aussie coal yet my electricity (air-conditioning and heaters on) is cheaper than Australia 😂 Don't get me started about imported Aussie beef being cheaper too.
To those who voted Labor/Greens-Teals it must be very hard to shut down the guilt. You are responsible. Are you going to make the same mistake again ??? The rest of us aren't sure about that...
Labor has already ruined Australia, too late. eg: Labor has signed off to allow multi national corporations to build 150,000 new homes, only to be rented out, no chance of buying one.
Too many people wasting money on coffees and then moaning they can’t get on the housing market.
Don't give a rats! I've never gone out for meals or anything else. Waste of money and you never get what you paid for. 😡
You sound like a fun person, not a wet blanket at all.

Prices down when no one wants it
It costs the average Aussie a small fortune to heat their home. Inflation is high, food is expensive, fuel is expensive, rent is out of control. But of course the government decides to instead spend hundreds of millions of dollars on foreign aid and pointless referendums that no one asked for.
Its just disgusting Labor is sending millions to Ukraine so that Seleski's wife buy her new $4 million Bugatti !
Million dollar houses 🏘
Taxes are too high.
Dismantle complete government altogether if you are to avoid war and depopulation... St.Thomas
I make a fine cup of tea at home for 5 cents.
JFTGJ not 5 cents, of course, but mb 30 cents. Anyway not $5.
If the prices go up anymore we're done with the coffee shop and eatery thing i. We'll just invest in a coffee maker and decent coffee and stay him from now on .
@@addamr2052 Well prices ain't going down I'll give you the tip. I'll be the same. No one, except the rich and those who like to get ripped off will go out for a coffee or a meal. Better food at home anyways. Service here in Perth has always been a disgrace.
If ya'lls government didn't pay it's self large salaries and allowance and did give money away to sick up to the world... ya'lls cost of living is already way too high..
Coffee shop/restaurant employees earn far more than many industries- and they get tips !! . I drive for $25 an hour , no super/sick/holiday pay .Speeding/parking/phone fines ever present , and accidents possible . The hospitality union is responsible for this .
Too many government pay rises
Coffee’s are more expensive than ever and 8/10 are bad!
No one is paying $10 for a coffee, any business that tries that will fail… $100 steak is pretty common if you want fillet or tomahawk.
The NDIS is causing inflation.
People take away coffee is a new thing. In 1970-80s it wasn't around. We can live without it.
I make just as good at home…
Indeed, why should living conditions improve over time in a society. Stay the same forever I say. Or even go backwards. That's a really great goal for a society.
Every generation should be worse off than the last I say. It builds character.
Its not just Coffe its everything skyrocketing under these incompetent politicians.
@@nowhere529 I remember mortgage interest rates of 19% in the 1989-1990. Had two job to keep head above water.
I have been having coffee with a group of friends every Saturday morning for going on 25 years. We are/were all business owners and it was a time for us to rant and offload the week’s activities and discuss business problems. We frequented a few local coffee shops in rotation and are now at the point where we just walk in, sit down and the correct coffees are delivered to each person. We have continued this tradition through the years supporting local and small business. The businesses we frequent have become havens for business people and local employees. The number of times we have had a young girl in tears because of work stress or similar situations is uncountable. Because of these activities, these coffee shops have not had to increase their prices. As such they are receiving so much patronage, it is unbelievable. Everyone wins in this situation. It’s all about supporting community, families and sharing knowledge, respect and love without the nonsense of the woke liberal lunatics.
Australians need to come together and start focusing again on our core values. Lives change when we support one and other..!
Twice as many going bust as 10 yrs ago cause there’s twice as many cafes.
Market is saturated. How many coffee shops do we really need?
10 yrs ago a coffee cost X to sell 400 a day . Now they sell 200 a day for 2X and still make the same money bar inflation.
Coffee hasn’t gone up , milk hasn’t really gone up much , water is practically free. Rent and wages only and yet prices up 40%.
They put the prices up because you told them they could use inflation as the justification. It’s self perpetuating .
With so many out of work baristas can’t believe they can put upward pressure on wages. Just put coffee prices up on Sunday’s.
Just because you open a cafe or restaurant doesn’t mean you are entitled to succeed. The business model is wrong if they would only look at it . These businesses come and go forever. I live close to a restaurant strip for 30 yrs , thats the way it has always been.
Never been more coffee shops. The little surf shops and laundromats and real estates are all now coffee shops. Stop being so manipulated.
Seven 11 when you get fuel large coffee $2.50 with app
Voters have had blinkers on for decades now Australia enjoy your lucky country!
I live overseas. My tax rate is 3%. I can buy Australian beer here for a lot less than in Australia.
Going to be a lot of closures in the restaurant sector over the next year or 2
Frugal people will never pay $10 for a coffee…they make it home…☕💯
It won't be just hospitality, that goes to the wall!
No big deal. We can send milions to Ukraine we can give biliins to our hoapitals.
Hospitals have been told to cut back, roads are not going to be repaired, and they are bringing in more people.
Nope, I love a cafe coffee but at home coffee for me. Once a month is all I’ll do.
Labor is the bum buddy of big business
Rent, Insurance petrol and Energy have increased for all small businesses, not just hospitality.
As far as meat is concerned, it’s amazing the media has completely ignored the just introduced fart tax on livestock within the last 2 weeks, which has increased its price.
You get what you paid for, and you were warned ⚠️
Businesses are experiencing the same price increases as households. We get told to stop spending to fix inflation. Wages are fixed for 12 months, its rent, insurance, COGS, utilities and fuel that keep going up 10-20% as these sectors are price gouging. But there is no pressure on utility, insurance companies or fuel companies to keep a lid on the prices they charge. Big business are putting small business and households under pressure as they can charge what they want. That is the problem.
And during Covid with the Libs in........has everyone forgotten. We need a totally new form of govt
Sorry, but it's a chronically overcrowded market place. Even the smallest shopping centres have 947 cafes.
Electricity has just gone up again and at the same time they are dropping the feed in tariff for solar ,the rip off country
If any cafe owner charges $7 or more for a large coffee, the economy is not blame… the business’s operations are.
Try paying the wages for the staff.
It won't be any different with Dutton and Littleproud!
By the way 300-500 yen for a cafe latte here
$10 a coffee no thanks
So basically we have inflation. With the RBA Cash rate simply not high enough to quell it.
Tax tax tax tax… this country is gone bcoz we Let them get rich
One union: The ALAEA, has cut the guts out of Licensed Aircraft Engineer wages. Not all unions are bad Sky News.
Vote for cheaper coffee every four years.
I'm not going to spend $7 for a coffee
5 years old a drink 🍸 in a night club was $10 2024 its still $10 a drink
Higher wages, higher running costs, higher prices to the consumer.
Like I went to a bakery the other day and bought 2 pies to take home.. one for my housemate who was home and the other for myself.. almost $20 and I instantly thought.. this is the last time I buy from here!! Sadly we just don't have the money and it is coming down to a simple decision.. save the money and don't spend on what we can't afford!! Like I just said to someone.. if I go and see the Alien: Romulus movie then I best save up now with a tocket costing between $22-$55 alone!!
Another impact on the average citizen. Politicians are out of touch. Their talk is cheap because it doesn’t lead to solutions to cost of the cost of living crisis. They are comfortable and will be comfortable when their political careers are over. How many have worked in the real world? How many would get a high paying position on merit and not given to them?
Fix all the dodgy housing policies then people wont have to make $80 an hour
Here’s an idea.. how about all these “baristas” get a real trade ? …
Im a pensioner whats it like to go to a cafe for a coffee wish i could
Australia will become impossible to live in
PAYING CASH HELPS SMALL BUSINESSES

I have cut my take away coffee down now. 5.70 was fine, 5 90 or more yeah its now the odd occasion. I make my coffee more at hme now
Been buying Aldi coffee beans for near on 5 years, same price now as it was 5 years ago. Makes the best coffee for about 30c a cup. Call me a cheapskate, I know where I’ll be drinking my coffee.
Mr Price reporting on rising costs - love it!
I stopped eating out, buying takeaway food and coffee years ago. I eat at home and if I go somewhere I take my Thermos of coffee and an esky with food in my car's boot.
coffee at home. cafes will go dead broke
no hospitality? Melbourne will die off
Why is the Labour party
Council comes through finds a roach egg and hands out a 10 grand fine.
Stop thinking that groceries are expensive, housing is expensive, coffee is expensive, fuel is expensive.
Things haven't become expensive.
YOU have become poor.
And the current government has done this to you. Vote accordingly.
It's the revolving door...the price of Fuel rises ...then the price of transport rises ... then the cost of the freight they transport rises.....then of course the cost of the goods the retailer sell rises ....then of course the electric cost rises adds more to retail cost ....the it's the labor governments turn to raise wages and super cost to the employer...the the emplyer needs to lay staff off or raise the cost on goods again to recover all the above + the rise of insurances covers +++++ .
This list could go on much further add home & rent cost so on ..
That's the revolting door..
.
What is the point of raising cost when it just goes full circle to start again
&
Then end result of it all is
Nobody really gain's anything from it at all
Long term economic damage from lockdowns....
Sook sook sook sooky la la
What total BS - you're so full of it Price!
Stop blaming this on labor party, this is a world wide issue.

Eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr, here's a thought, don't go.
buy the coffee beans and make it at home.
The market is fixed for high populations of the same coffee shops ect this increase goes to made up crisis in stupid sectors like energy and food being more expensive ect as expenses to house the immigrant and its crisis’s raise prices their rubbish turns Australia into an environmental shit hole of constant price increase and crisis. There should be payment for people that don’t want to take part in artificial war cost of housing the immigrant that wasn’t taught is schools as compensation. At no time was a house that was 30k going to cost 300k taught in school and I should not have to live with the “depression” like economy because of the need for them to progress.
I wont vote liberal or labor honey.
In the future, the price of everything on restaurant menus will be Market Price. We all know that Market Price means you have to ask, and, of course, you know what it means if you have to ask for the price.
Indeed
$10 a coffee yeah won’t happen
You'd have to "Biden 4 brains" to own a cafe, restaurant or small business. High food cost, labour cost, inurance, equipment & maintenance, rent and fickle patrons who will gladly line up for 2 hours to try the latest gimmick.
