This was the ultimate stupidity of the Blankety Blanks format. Almost every question required contestants and guests to work around the sexual innuendo and give a clean answer to a sexually suggestive question. In the Australian version of the show, its first run was hosted by a master of this type of bawdy humour. On those occasions when a literal answer was given, it was censored. So it was alright for the 0-10 Network and Grundy to plant dirty thoughts in your head, but not ok for the people playing the game to call that bluff.
It was a funny time Australian broadcasting history. Sometimes it was very permissive, but other times really restrictive. Blatant double entendres would often sail through unscathed, but you couldn't say the word "fart". In this case, censor "have sex", but Wendy sneaks out the "fish fingers" comment no worries.
I zoomed into the footage and examined frame by frame, I made out SE and as she places her card in the slot I made out the X. The show aired at 7pm so that could be the reason. PM me if you want more proof.
Many of the BB clips on here are blocked and not available in my country. The bullshit part about it is, I'm in Australia. And this was an Australian tv show. Screw you, Sony!!! Buying up the rights to Australian content. Then blocking it from Australian internet users. How bloody stupid!
This is unlike Aussie tv, normally they'd let it in, but this was on during tea time, so it wasn't family appropriate. They also hacked to death Kenny Everett and The Goodies too.
This was unlike Blankety Blanks completely. Instead of doing a bleep and showing a graphic on screen to cover things up, they usually just cut whole sections of the show out before broadcasting it, much like they did on The Goodies. You'd suddenly find the Audience were laughing for no apparent reason, because the bit that made them laugh went on the cutting room floor. AO time slots in those days didn't begin until 9:30pm, and this show went out at 7pm.
Anyone know or have the clip of bees wonder mop? i think it was ugly dave gray saying "womens work is never done". I thought that was classic and so old fashioned
@shravanbhat Her husband came from Pakistan, as I recall. Her daughter had a name of similar origin - I think it was Raihana (Kennedy made common mention of it, as this contestant was on the show for several days).
Was she on Sale of The Century as well and went all the way to the Car I think ? But also the contestant that came on a second time without anyone realising it was her. and they had to scrap those episodes afterwards
Naughty,Naughty!...lol..what a shame we couldn't find out what she really wrote..hehehe...i guess they didn't allow it back then..different era and had it been aired the people only would have only seen the negative side of it and created a massive fuss..oh well.
"But Daddy only has it every second Wednesday of the month" Number 96 was a really raunchy show on Australian Television at the time. "Think of a number he says, and if you get it wrong get your gear off! He's always right!" "So you have muesli with him more often?" "Fish fingers" -- a reference to "digital penetration".

Wait a second, wait a second, wait a BLANKING second. How could this be bleeped in Britain when in America, which we call Match Game '7x, we would let it fly out the mouths of either Brett Summers or Charles Nelson Reilly?
Richard Bowley Firstly, this is not a UK programme. It's Australian. Secondly, it was aired during the family viewing timeslot in the late 70's. Of course it was going to be censored. Heck, the U.S still blurs out someone flipping the bird. So don't try pretending that the U.S is that far progressive.
@@jaycee330 Yes, in 73 only; In 74 Brett used the full word meaning a bundle of sticks. On MG77 Don Sutton has it written on the back of his card but is showing "SWEET APE"
@brismike65 Well she is an actor, and on Number 96 was playing a fictional character. By 1977 96's ratings were in decline, and here on BB she is doing a big plug for 96 and her character by recycling some of that show's comedy. Essentially a cross-promotion.
13 years after you've posted your comment here, but... Welcome to Australian Television in the 70s. Lots of things were censored if it wasn't broadcast in the AO time zone of 9:30pm or later, and this went out at 7pm on weeknights. In fact quite a lot of this show had edit points where they simply cut portions out before showing it on air. There was a rule with Graham Kennedy that every show he was in had to be pre-recorded after the crow calling incident of 1975. They had a running gag on the show where if something was a bit over risqué, Graham and Dave would start making scissor motions with their fingers to suggest that there might be a cut happening before it went to air.
The hypocritical Australian sensors leave the government owned media alone, they can say whatever they want but commercial stations are fined for using unacceptable language.
These days? No. Every network has the same censory board but the privately owned media is run by advertising dollars so they are more heavily restricted in their allowed content.
Back in those days even the ABC had to cut things if it was broadcast before the AO start time of 9:30pm, the same as the commercial networks. The censor board absolutely butchered a lot of The Goodies episodes, because the ABC usually broadcast them at 6:00pm.
Graham gennedy was a gem.
Graham Kennedy was pretty good, too.
Yes we all loved Graham gennedy.

The British version of this show was just called "Blankety Blank" unlike this AU version which is called "Blankety Blanks".
It's like how British people call those bricks of wheat cereal "Weetabix", but Australians call it "Weet-Bix".
What did she put ?

I didn't think that the reference to fish fingers would need explaining. 😂

"Have sex" went uncensored in the U.S.
