    So excited to start my seed growing journey on a whole list of copiapoa species next week! I only found your channel a few weeks back but am so impressed by the production value in these, some of the best I've seen in ANY plant videos on youtube! Keep up the great work Manuel, salud desde el medio oeste

    Thank you so much for this. I would love to stand there and absorb that magic in person but it's virtually impossible that will ever happen. It's amazing to be able to visit this way and get a feeling for this magical place.

    Thanks for an another amazing video in cactus habitat.
    I have some ideas how to squeeze out even more out of your travels.
    One thing would be completely for free - take a garden trowel and dig a small hole (or several holes) to show how the soil looks like beneath the surface. It can be done without damaging any plants. You can even take samples back home to do some simple tests like soil granular composition test with bottle/jar + water and pH test. That would be an amazing way to better understand the natural habitat and cacti living conditions without even touching plants.
    Second thing would require some spending - buying a light spectrometer. It's a device that can show the light spectrum, PPF and PPFD. Some devices can even measure UV and far red light. That would be absolutely amazing to see how different light conditions influence cacti growth in nature (full sun vs under a shrub, low altitude vs high altitude etc.).
    That would probably even help to bring some people to the channel who may not be cactus lovers, but are interested in conditions of other plants from particular region, which grow together with cacti.

      Great ideas thank you, and thanks for watching!! 🤓 I will mention that we will never mess with the soil in any way, because there’s no telling where seedlings may be hiding. The first years of development are spent underground and for that reason I won’t touch the soil. Better keep habitat and cultivation completely separate 😅

    • @SimaShangde
      @SimaShangde ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RareCactus Well, there is always a no digging method - using a soil profile sampler. You just put the sampler into the ground as deep as it can go and take it out with a sample. It does not disturb anything around and allow to see the soil profile almost intact.

      @RareCactus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SimaShangdeoh nice, I like that method better. Thanks for the info!

    • @SimaShangde

      There is one thing that I was thinking about. Considering that all the light measurements would be done in natural sunlight, a cheap lux meter should also do the job. There are conversion sheets online to convert lux from sunlight into PPFD.

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimaShangdetotally, I’ve brought a light meter on some trips, but when its a compromise between bringing and carrying that instead of a lens, the lens will win every time 😅
