I don't think anybody comes close the Fischer when it comes to playing open positions such as this endgame. He just turned into computer in these situations. Ofcourse, unless his bishop is getting trapped in a World Championship, that is.

Objectively speaking, Carlsen would have no problems beating Fischer, even at his peak level. It might be different if Fischer had access to modern theory, but as it stands there wouldn't even be a contest..

I believe he beats Carlson. You can move a player to a different time without him moving into that time. Fischer in his prime in his time was unbeatable. In his prime Fischer won if memory serves 84% of the games he played. That's stagger. Don't care the time frame.
#suggestion cover some of Mendonca’s games, he finished tied for first in the Sunway Chess Festival and he won the Hit Open with 9/9! He has a very enjoyable positional style similar to Capablanca and he gets plenty of winning chances in simple positions even with black

It's hard to say. I would say Magnus because he has a longer track record. It's like asking if Napoleon would defeat General Patton or something. Just two incomparable eras
Magnus of post 2013 would defeat Fischer of early 1970s quite convincingly. The game has advanced too much for Fischer to be able to remain an elite top 10 player with his 50s and 60s knowledge of theory. But I believe if hypothetically Fischer would be brought to the current time and allowed one year to be abreast of all the modern theory in chess, he would give a tough fight to Magnus. Same with players like Kasparov and Capablanca. Kasparov might even defeat Carlsen if he is aged 20 something again and is allowed to train with the newest computers. His work ethic was legendary.
Max Euwe is, relatively, the best player The Netherlands ever had. Jan Timman may have been stronger but he came much later. There is no Timman Square but hundreds of thousands of tourists visit or cross the Max Euwe square.

That means he has a way of whisking himself up to greatness. He's from a chess family and lower nobility. The jury is out on whether he can keep himself motivated. Personally, I think he has the ability to become one of the great but I doubt he will keep it up. There's little money in chess unless you reach the top 5 and have created some special identity for yourself that is appealing to the masses. He is a beautiful, fine young man that would blend in anywhere. This is not what people today want from a chess player. He must be troubled or unusual in one way or the other.. Jorden by contrast is the ideal son-in-law.

Max Euwe is, relatively, the best player The Netherlands ever had. Jan Timman may have been stronger but he came much later. There is no Timman Square but hundreds of thousands of tourists visit or cross the Max Euwe square.
The strongest ever by rating is Anish Giri. But I guess if you measure greatness by influence Max is at the apex.

Gigi is their successor. As you say, it is all relative. Giri would beat Morphy within 20 moves or less, but not in the 1800s.

@@Stopitgetsomehelp3012 Jorden van Foreest used to give himself a resounding nickname, that I, unfortunately, have forgotten. "The .... beast" or something. That means he has a way of whisking himself up to greatness. He's from a chess family and lower nobility. The jury is out on whether he can keep himself motivated. Personally, I think he has the ability to become one of the great but I doubt he will keep it up. There's little money in chess unless you reach the top 5 and have created some special identity for yourself that is appealing to the masses. He is a beautiful, fine young man that would blend in anywhere. This is not what people today want from a chess player. He must be troubled or unusual in one way or the other.. Jorden by contrast is the ideal son-in-law.

Why doesn't a drawn match go to the player w/ more black wins (if any) s.t. Sergey Karjakin not Magnus Carlsen is 2016 WCC? Surely a black win is worth more than a white win. But you might argue 2 draws with black amounts to a win with black. Does it? No question about it in chess960, where there's no theory. In chess? Gestalt psychology says the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
