@@christianlewis7055 Yeah, well half of the time these close up camera people are more in the way than anything else. Hire real skateboard filmers. Or better yet make the course like four times smaller and focus on the true tech and street skating. There's not even enough speed to get up to the obstacles in a normal way, indeed almost as if this was designed for BMX only or something. What do you people think about this kind of scoring system for skating competitions: -Tricks are pre-scored, anyone can look up what score which trick or combination gives and plan their runs accordingly. During the run the tricks are listed to a program that calculates scores. -Tricks and scores could even show up on the screen if they are fast enough logging them(for the replays). This would help non-skaters understand which tricks are difficult(they don't always look difficult), let viewers know the trick stance, etc. -Obstacles and lines can be pre-scored as well. If there is an unscored line or something, the judges score that on the spot(and it needs to be in line with the scoring system). Between runs they could show top view of the park with line and obstacle scores overlaid, again to give viewers more indication on what is difficult and what to pay attention to during runs. -Judge style scores are added to the calculated run score. -Previous year's most made tricks get a small negative multiplier to reduce the same few impressive tricks being done constantly. Other trick scores can be tweaked as well, but must be announced half a year early to let the skaters prepare. -There could be highlighted tricks that have a small positive multiplier. It could for example be based on extra difficult tricks of the season, or viewer voting - you know, to increase the show value: why not incentivise tricks that people want to see and create something they can look out for. Big Air competitions have some of this because the announcers let you know things like "these two guys have been training 1260, trying to be the first to get in competition" etc. The point would be to stop the fucking guessing on "what judges are looking for"! It's ridiculous that for nearly all of the skateboard tournaments the judges are a complete mystery and are often clearly not judging objectively. There's always that "they're leaving room for better runs", "they think he can do even better" and "they're not looking for that kind of tricks" BULLSHIT, which goes against fair competition. Why not just standardise the scoring and leave a small subjective style score by the judges? Not related to the scores, but get the announcers to commentate like a sports event! It's called play-by-play announcer for a reason - get someone who can get the show going and viewers excited and tell about the run events in real-time and about the athletes and strategies etc on down time. I seem to remember Bob Burnquist was excellent, take notes from there and other viewer sports.
