A casual chat about a few of my favorites. Here's Dr Ellie Anderson's video about Benjamin's famous 1930's essay "The Work of Art in the Age of Reproducibility" • Walter Benjamin on Art...
Nice to see Patrick White pop up here. I read Voss along with many other White titles in my deep dark past - his work tended to show up in Commonwealth lit courses. I think I was a very naive reader of White so he’s on my re-read list (which I will never complete.) Good luck on the grading. -- Heather
I just loved Voss so much! It will always be a special book for me. Want to try other ones. The one I set aside was "The Eye of the Storm". I also have a nice NYRB copy of Riders in the Chariot.
@@thegrimmreader3649All our White editions went to charity shops a couple moves ago but the university library here has a good collection of Australian lit. I went hunting for Wohmann but turned up her work in German but no translations.
I got so interested in Gabriele Wohmann's book that I ordered the German version from the Germain Amazon website. Could not find it translated into any of my better known languages. My German is very rusty but the theme just resonated with me so much that I had to buy it. Maybe it will motivate me to brush up my German :)
Well it's clearly broken up between the diary entries that have a type writer font and are shorter and then the actual stories. The diary entries might be easier than the stories at first. But her language in general isn't too difficult. I hope you get something out of it! 🙂
thank you for going through the books in more detail. I love Doktor Faustus and really want to read all the other ones.
yes me too! I will probably do one more Q&A video at some point for the missed questions.
