    Very nice discussion.
    I have been exploring some German and Austrian authors e.g. Mann, Musil, Zweig, Kafka, Hesse but totally missed this work. Hope to try it soon.
    Wonder how it compares to Buddenbrooks?

    oh I've totally pronounced the author's name wrong; thanks for the explanation! this book is on my tbr and I will read it eventually but right now is probably not the right time. I'm quite tired of men and war and related themes.
