So many awesome memories from this game, but one (maybe odd one) that has really stuck with me over the years is actually after the game was officially over.
In one of the shots of the Astros dugout showing Springer with his head down after he flied out to end the game, he eventually raises his head and .... possibly I'm making it up, but it always looked to me like he started to say "I CRUSHED that...." then the feed cuts to a different camera before he finishes voicing his thought.
I always think to myself: yeah welcome to Kauffman stadium where you have to hit it a mile to hit it out.
There's plenty of reasons why KC rarely places in the top half in HRs every year, but one of the biggest is because of the stadium itself. It's vast dimensions require you to taylor-make your team and prioritize things that many other teams won't.
As a young kid I was always super jealous of teams like the Yankees with practically every batter seemingly able to hit 30+ HR a year. I just assumed that their hitters were just that much better than everyone else. And although through most of my childhood (well, adulthood too now) KC's batters actually WERE vastly inferior in the HR-power department, it took a while for me to realize the nuance.
And that kind of realization... Springer felt that deeply on that flyout.
