Thanks to all of the very nice comments, we realized we missed a post-credits scene where Sky is on the same talk show Emma was on two years prior, talking about her experience. It would appear from the way she looks at the camera in the final shot that Sky may be possessed with whatever had possessed Emma (or even Emma herself). However, this doesn't salvage the poor writing and direction, so we will maintain the scores we gave this film. Peace and blessings 🌵
The ending still confuses me though, which was it, if at all? Also I thought it would be cool if they put it in skys perspective with the ghosts *showing* her hints that things weren't as they seem and then she does her research and probably sees some messed up story behind her before having children and she confronts her when she connects the dots, that's how you make a thriller in my eyes, not to mention the ending was so predictable comparing the movie to like ma, oh and it would be cool with the whole house escape being put more into action more than "oh she's gonna kill them just there and then" good video!
There was also the nod to Whoopi Goldberg's psychic character in the movie Ghost. Her name was Oda Mae Brown.
Emma wasn’t possessed she was greedy for her lifestyle. She takes over sky’s body after she shoots her in the face.
Needless to say, I would have exited the screen within the first 10 minutes of the movies showing simply because the initial scenes
failed in their ability to keep me engaged.
However, my feature attraction to this flick was MoNique, so I definitely continued watching.
Specifically, with MoNique being off the big screen for such a long stretch, I wanted to see if she still had it; that acting GOLD.. And boy oh Boy did she deliver; she is HOLLYWOOD Royalty!! Phenomenal job Mo🤩🤩🤩

When I tell you this movie had me in STITCHES from the very beginning 😂 Mo’Nique & Octavia need to make a “MA” sequel after this man 😂😂 I loved it!

It annoyed me when she hammered the white boy and there was NO blood splatter on the wall or nothing!!!! Barely blood 🤦🏾♀️

Lol you nailed it😂 I was soo mad at the homegirl for JUST SITTING there while her friend was murdered. It was so messed up....her friend wanted to live Soo bad and kept gassing her head up when she wanted to give up and just let Emma kill her. SMH the ending was WEAK ASF. Monique did an AMAZING JOB👌🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿I was very pleased with her acting.

Watching Monique run around that damn house like a wind up toy had me rolling. I felt bad for the two girls until they decided to fight this lady empty-handed 🤦🏽
The writing and acting, except Monique, was terrible but I decided it was a dark comedy once the jig was up. Kimberly Reese would never. Lee Daniels channeling Tyler Perry.
I think it’s because she was lying about what really happened. Monique’s character probably wouldn’t be able to run that fast and no one would approach someone with a butchers knife bare handed. She was lying.
Yeah, I think it didn’t make sense and she sat there and watched her friends die, only bcuz she actually killed everyone and lied abt what happened on the tv talk show. Sky was the real killer/possessed one.
OMG the last part of your statement about the 2 young girls deciding to half ass jump Emma's big strong possesed ass bare handed with ALL of that nice ass furniture in that big ass house??? Then Ole girl legit watched Emma stab her home girl to death 🤦♀️ that part was one of the worst parts for me but it does seem as if Monique's character had atleast 2 personalities & perhaps the house came with an evil spirit that actually possessed Emma causing her to become a serial killer
I absolutely loved this movie 8.5/10 for me my heart was racing & Monique channeled pure evil in this😭😭 I love seeing her back on the screen she deserves this she has a gift!!!

Yo I got the ending for those still confused! First if you all didn’t fast forward or wait around there was a mid-credit where Sky is on the same talk show Emma was on prior.
Here is what happened. Emma died but immediately TOUCHED Sky and possessed her. This is what happens when a spirit touches Sky, they get into her body. This time because Emma spirit was fresh and new she was able to overtake it completely, plus Sky was weak and in and out of consciousness when the possession was taking place so Sky couldn’t spiritually fight her.
Here is another big part of the plot I don’t think you all understand. Emma kept referring to herself as old and the college kids as “young bishes”. She said her husband took her youth. She didn’t want kids. She is overtaking Sky’s body as a way reclaim her life again in a new young body. She can still be rich (I’m sure Sky will be rich because she got access to Emma’s account somehow and Sky public appearances will get her fame), she can choose not to have kids and be in a youthful body but with her wisdom.
If you hated the plot twist it’s probably because you didn’t get the reason why Emma wanted to overtake Sky’s body. It’s clear now that I saw the credit. Also a good giveaway that Emma is in that body, how would Sky get the code? The said the alternative plan was to wait for the mailman to come, but she told the talk show host she figured it out after time. No Emma is in her.

I believe that Sky was possessed at the table and we are seeing what she wants us to see. Emma never really got up from the table...that doesn't happen in a reading...how it stops and starts again...Nope, it was still going. Emma didnt admit to killing her family until AFTER Sky had the veins, water possession episode.Sky was already feeling like these spirits were getting close.She was possessed and used Emma as a scape goat.Sky killed everyone in the house.And Sky's mother was a behavior health professional..which leads into Sky having a behavior health issue/dealing with someone with mental/behavioral health issues. The homeless man is another nod to mental health. I got holes in the original storyline...so the police did not check the strangulation marks against her hands? None of her husbands blood splatter was on her? No signs breaking and entering? No suspects? So law enforcement did not look at the obvious...the wife?We need a sequel and a prequel to explain this mess Lee Daniels.Rewatch it and concentrate on if Sky was telling it but she was the killer.

I believe after Sky killed Monique, Monique took over Sky body Like the movie Skeleton Key My reason is at the very end Sky did the interview and said the exact same thing Monique said in her interview

Well assuming Emma actually did become possessed & slaughtered her entire family, perhaps the evil spirit that possessed Emma & then later on Sky 1st showed Emma how to cover her tracks after deleting her family

I guess the reason they made Sky and her team con artists is maybe to show they weren't the best of people to possibly compare to Monique's character who's way worse. Idk. I loved Monique's performance it was chilling how she was able to switch personalities for her character. But other than that yea the script was really silly. Especially when Sky was trying to like reason with the murderer like "Oh you'll be rich and alone" Like why tf would she care she killed them to be alone 😂

"everybody that's not Monique" lmao so true😄 if they swapped out the supporting cast members and added about 30 minutes to it's runtime showing the backstory leading up to the murder, this movie would've been the perfect horror/thriller.👌🏾 Either way, I enjoyed watching Monique, she carried the entire movie.
Monique just did the real life story of the black woman who's home was possessed in Indiana, it's a true story, Lee Daniel produced it, it's going to be a Netflix original

This movie story line was good. I actually felt Monique killed the family just to write a book and make money from the beginning. But I felt the reading should’ve been deeper than that and explained how she got to that point. The kills could’ve been better. But I think sky killed everybody and maybe that’s why it was written that way. The reading 2 should explain more on how these readings are possessed and passing it on to the next reader.
Watch the credits again you’ll see Monique was playing 3 different characters. She had multiple personalities. Read the credits of who’s playing who . She had a personality disorder.

Well, yea the ending has me and once Emma died Sky had to get the code to get out. How else to get it....get possessed by Emma since she's dead. Remember in the beginning Sky recounts and incident where she almost got possessed. Sky kept saying in Emma's reading "This feels different!" She finally got possessed. Part 2 coming y'all!

Excellent review. Honestly, I skipped through a lot because it was so gory and brutal. Even so, it's clear that Monique’s acting chops are still intact, so NOW give her something significant to chew on.
Going back to the reception issue….wasnt her husband and daughter on their phone earlier

I actually thought the acting was bad based on how they were moving, making noises and talking loud when they need to keep quiet because of you know why. Skye did good on the possession part though
It could be bad intentionally. Sky view point on what happened...
I believe that Monique's character was never the "assailant" as was portrayed. I think that the story we see playing out is what Sky is telling the audience happened, but I believe that Sky set up the events that took place, killing her "friends" who were using her for monetary gain despite knowing how it affected her, getting money out of the deal and also creating more monetary gain by telling her "story of survival". I don't think anyone was ever possessed, just an opportunist. Monique being the killer didn't make sense as her injuries would not have been substantiated as I am sure she went to the hospital and these things would not have been able to be faked.
That's exactly what was the case. Sky is the sociopath & has been all along, not Emma.
When you watch the movie with subtitles, in the scene where Sky is being interviewed, the subtitles refer to her as "Emma", indicating that she has been possessed at the end.
I enjoyed this movie. There were some moments of subpar acting (never from Monique) so my four of five star rating is rooted in the plot twist and the storyline itself. That’s how good I thought it was. It was truly suspenseful! Bravo, Monique, Claude, Daniels, and the rest of the cast and crew 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Did anyone notice that there were 4 robbers in the beginning, and the crew that did the reading was a team of 4🤔.
At the end, Sky seemed a little sinister at the final scene.
What if sky and her team were the killer's from the beginning and the story was actually Sky's lie to the talk show host...

Nope, she really didn't want to do because she told them that this feel different. When Skye killed Emma she got possessed. This is how she was able to get the codes and leave the house. If you watch it in CC on the talk show it's says Emma speaking.

Or maybe that was the possession ending that’s why she ain’t help her friend she legit sat there and watched her die just like in the reading with the guy and his mom she saw something walk past him ,then during Monique she saw it in the corner it walked past she looked towards Monique who then or in that direction and she locked the doors maybe she possessed Monique

It was such a good story! The script could’ve been so much better. The whole thing where she connected with the victims didn’t make sense at all. I was really disappointed. I think Monique got up cause she was starting to tell the reading was real and maybe she was getting worried.

I just thought about something when Emma said this is the only spot that gets reception in the house, I was confused because before Kendall was killed, wasn't she on her phone, meaning there was reception in her room?
Emma made a lot of changes to the house after the family was killed…she mentioned “steel reinforced” something. That’s what’s blocking reception, I presume.

I watched this last night with my daughter. I said the same thing about the mom coming home being so happy making dinner and humming along. I told my daughter, no one is that happy.
I think the movie was good. Monique's acting was amazing, the screenplay/plot wasn't bad, and I thought the cinematography was good quality. I really liked it.
i actually enjoyed the movie. BUT of course in all movies you can see through the suspense and catch the clues. but it was overall a good movie.

Nick & Joseph! I love you guys! I just watched this movie, before watching your spoiler review. So many movies these days have great concepts and poor execution. Monique's performance was amazing, it was great to see her range. Your review was pretty identical to my own; over repeated dumb points (no wifi, the mom gonna pay the bills, etc) and illogical motivations like murdering a team of physics would have less consequences than just letting the physic report her reading to the cops? PS, glad to see her and Lee Daniels are friends again; has Oprah and she ever had their olive branch. I love you both!!!!!! Give me the story behind the name Fish Jelly

I watched this for the first time yesterday, and you start thinking of all the stuff you would do if you were put in those situations. I told my mother-in-law I would have gotten the fob to the Jeep and pushed the panic alarm until the cops showed up. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ Mo'Nique wouldn't have killed me that day...eff that!!! But I enjoyed the movie, as cheesy as it was.
Also...a callback to Ghost with Patrick Swayze. The fake psychic in Ghost, played by Whoopi Goldberg, was named Oda M. Brown, just like Sky's mom. Don't know if anyone else noticed the Easter egg. 😁😁😁

My theory is that Emma possesses sky at the end since she died right on top of her and she would've been able to touch her and possess her immediately upon becoming a spirit.
The set up as you described it sounds really good. I like the idea of real psychics. Too bad the execution isn’t good.

If sky was possessed during the reading which means(Monique took over her body then) why wasn’t it sky locking the doors and killing her friends? She can connect with the dead so the only thing that make sense is after she killed Monique she connected back with her and got the code to unlock the doors

I believe Emma spirit is fighting against the demon spirit that possessed her when they moved in that house I believe ‘Emma is really cripple and the demon spirit can give her the ability to walk without a cane . I believe that Emma spirit is the one that cried when sky mention her kids the demon took over I believe the demon took over sky in the end
Did y’all not understand Sky killed everyone? We were witnessing Sky’s viewpoint of what went on in the house. Just like at the beginning we were witnessing Emma’s viewpoint about what supposedly happened, until it cut into the interview and then later we found out what happened. At the end Sky was asked “How did you get out?” which means Sky was telling what supposedly happened until it cut into the interview yet again. Now I do think what possessed Emma possessed Sky, not only was it possession but Emma was really crazy as well. But they set it up for a part 2 after showing Sky’s sinister look into the camera at the end. The demon cut Emma’s finger off to make it believable and it stabbed Sky in the hand, the same exact thing that happened to Emma happened to Sky. It would explain how Sky got connections with the same interviewer as Emma in the beginning, because that wasn’t a news interview it was an interview to promote a book.

I think Sky was possessed by Emma, which would explain how she got out because only Emma knew the code. Also, there were cameras all over the house and that would prove everything was done by Emma not Sky.
You seem all over the place. Sky was possessed by Emma. Or was Emma evil. Reading your theory gave me a damn headache. If sky was possessed by Emma then who was controlling Emma’s body. If skye was possessed by another spirit she wouldn’t have known the code to get out….first you saying she was possessed then turn around and say she evil which one is it…

I just finished it and I feel like Sky had a plan to get rid of her friends that keep pushing her to do what she didnt want to do, also shows that she hates been poor and listen to her mom do things for money. So what I got from the movie is that Sky planned everything and kill her friends and the lady of the house creating the story about the lady killing her own family. She ended rich

I enjoyed this movie. The actors were new so they need to fine tune their craft. Sky said if they touch you they possess you. So when she shot her she was then possessed by Monique.

I believe Emma actually killed everyone including Sky and Emma possessed Sky upon death (A La Skelton Key). I say this, because Sky's vein on her forehead popped out when Emma died like it did when she was possessed by Emma's family during the reading . Also "Sky" said "ain't it" and was humming like Emma on the interview in the end.
Did they show something else after the credits? Because last I seen Sky shot Emma and then I seen the vein in sky’s head and they said something like how you gone get out or something like that

Did y’all not understand Sky killed everyone? We were witnessing Sky’s viewpoint of what went on in the house. Just like at the beginning we were witnessing Emma’s viewpoint about what supposedly happened, until it cut into the interview and then later we found out what happened. At the end Sky was asked “How did you get out?” which means Sky was telling what supposedly happened until it cut into the interview yet again. Now I do think what possessed Emma possessed Sky, not only was it possession but Emma was really crazy as well. But they set it up for a part 2 after showing Sky’s sinister look into the camera at the end. The demon cut Emma’s finger off to make it believable and it stabbed Sky in the hand, the same exact thing that happened to Emma happened to Sky. It would explain how Sky got connections with the same interviewer as Emma in the beginning, because that wasn’t a news interview it was an interview to promote a book.

I believe there was a spirit possessing Monique character. If you remember there was something in the corner of the room that Sky seen go over to Monique. And let's not forget the footsteps they heard. And that is where all hell broke loose. At the end when she shot Monique..A vain popped in Sky face just like when she was possessed. I believe that spirit jumped into Sky. I really enjoyed the movie. Monique is underrated!!!!
Monique made the movie. Lee Daniels has lost his damn mind. I think he actually tried to insult her, but it backfired because she was so good.
This will be my second update: after watching the movie again I give it a one out of 10 because it's just plain stupid. If you're a murderer, you would not even agree to have a psychic reading to start with. It's just a really stupid movie.

So it seems to me that Sky orchestrated the entire thing. Sky has abilities, she can see things, she can see peoples real intentions. She can be possessed and she can probably make someone else become possessed. The scene where they were talking about splitting the 20K seemed odd to me, Sky does allllll the work but they have to split it equally? Sky didn’t like her friends and could see they were low-key using her. She wanted to help her mum and free herself from financial strain. I’m not sure if Emma actually killed her family or if it was indeed a home invasion as Sky could have manipulated Emma and made Emma possessed. Also when Emma was killing her friend by the bottom of the stairs why was Sky just sitting there? 😂😂
Anyway at the end some type of possession occurred because the veins started popping on her forehead so not sure if Emma possessed Sky’s body or Sky removed the Possession she could have placed on Emma’s body. Nonetheless Sky isn’t as innocent as she seems which was confirmed in the final post credit scene where she looks into the camera revealing all is not what it seems.
Yeah this is what my sisters and I came up with.
What I believe will happen is if you remember when Sky was in the coffee shop with her boyfriend that she stated that she knew what happened when people get touched by a spirit that they become possessed. Sky stated it had happened to her when she was younger but never explained how she got rid of the spirit. THE SPIRIT HAS ALWAYS BEEN iN SKY !! This happens in real life because there are real life spirits living within people in our world. I believe sky planned all of this because she knew that splitting $20k( $5k each) would not be enough to help her family through poverty. Sky was so inspired by Emma's story that she basically shared her perspective on it. Actually Emma never killed her family & the real killers are still out there.
