@0:48 the talk of decisions being good should not be predicated on their being good "business" ones; maybe it looked "good" on paper for "equipment management" to have those older fire engines in that yard. Maui had 4 times the deaths in a fast-moving fire; Australia also, in much wider spaces, but I don't think their fire brigades, departments were or weren't ethnically diverse, or if it was a factor.
Having private fire brigades only tends towards attrition of public departments.

2 things, Bill - First, Caruso states "we're in the peak of fire season". January was NEVER part of that time frame. It's only in the last decade we now experience 'fire YEAR', not only a season. So when exactly CAN a reservoir be off-line for needed repairs, or whatever else is necessary? Second, Trump was NOT "right" about fire prevention maintenance of our state. Trump is neither knowledgeable nor experienced in achieving complete management of our over 30 MILLION acres of natural all-terrain vegetation, and especially not with an incident like the recent unprecedented firestorm. Thankfully, this video clip of listening to the duo of Smug & Smarmy, was a mere 2.5 minutes in length.

It was NOT hindsight, when there is a warning of the fires ahead of time and when you are a known high risk area! You do not have the reservoir that holds the MOST water in disrepair for a year! Power lines that should have been buried, dried brush that should have been cleared! The flames were that large BECAUSE it was allowed to get out of control and because the accelerant of the brush! With all the money collected and spent on silliness, money could have been spent on new innovative precautions such as underground pumps from the ocean for fire emergencies use, large sprinkler systems etc! Also the empty reservoir was by far the largest one, was elevated above the communities and right next to Palisades. This warning has been said for years, detailing all needed and it was ignored! The insurance companies cancelled most home owners insurance precisely for that same neglectful reason!

There are a variety of reasons to keep old vegetation under control and removed, but when you are dealing with 90 to 100 mph winds, it doesn’t matter how much you have cleared things out. The senders are going to be so numerous and travel so far, That plays a very small role when you are dealing with fires on this level and scale.
But when rebuilding occurs, yes, powerlines should be buried underground. But they’re also need to be extreme changes in building codes. You are in a high fire risk area. The only homes that survived this time were made out of concrete and metal with very specific design features. This should be the standard for all homes in these areas when things are rebuilt, the same way that dome homes are the only ones that survive in coastal areas when a hurricane hits because the wind flows over them instead of hitting them directly. We keep building homes the same way we did 400 years ago. As the world in climate change our building standards need to change as well.

Did Caruso run on comprehensive fire preparedness last time? did he advocate for clearing out the dry fire fuels with goats, to keep water levels fully restored, to upgrade the exposed power lines to underground power lines, etc? He claims that he would have fully funded the fire department, but we know now that it would not have been enough to have made a difference, we needed to to all the other things to be prepared. He actually ran on many other things and maybe on fully funding the fire department, which would not have been enough, and now for him to claim in hindsight that "I am so sad that I was right" is such a slimy politician speech to take credit for something that he was not any better prepared to handle what happened. And this dishonest politician is who you want to vote for in 2026 just because he made a self serving TV lie claiming that things would have been different if he had been elected? What a disgusting self serving politician. Don't be fooled by Caruso.

@accesswireless189 and bass being on a press junket as LA burned isn’t slimy? And then her petulant stonewalling to a reporter? Go preach to someone else. She’s a disgrace.

You didn't mention what the insurance companies did or didn't do. Important.

Exactly. The insurance companies were warning everyone that these areas were _uninsurable_ because this disaster was _inevitable_ . . .

This was done to get a big fire, thus big federal money.

Fully fund the fire dept and the expense of what. VA, Schools, what service would you take from. Just like a company budgeting is a balancing act. Not everything gets funded.

It is peak fire season. Did you not see the multiple fires in Los Angeles this month?
