Elvis Presley Ambulance Controversy LOVE? HATE? WAIT! "Cleaning Up History" Episode 8 What Say You?

  • In this episode the Spa Guy talks about how he thinks people will react to the ambulance being brought back into the public eye.
    This is a rare behind the scenes interview series with Elvis Presley historian and TH-camr Billy Stallings, who goes by "The Spa Guy." Missing for decades, Billy was able to find and acquire the ambulance that carried Elvis Presley from Graceland to Baptist hospital the day he died. Before placing the ambulance in a museum, The Spa Guy cleaned it up. While cleaning it, he agreed to be interviewed. Normally Stallings is telling stories and asking questions from behind the camera. But for these episodes, he is the person of interest.

    The Spa Guy is amazing. If Elvis were still here I think He would give Billy a TCB necklace because he does take care of business and does so much to keep Elvis history alive.

    Billy I cam see you're passionate and serious about the actual, tangible history of Elvis and that's more than I can say for so many others...you can write all the books you want, but going to the places and seeing and touching those very places, pieces videoing them, is priceless...thank you for your steady perseverance

    As a paramedic I love this ! Get her running Billy and siren and lights working . This is going to be not only a part of Elvis History , but EMS history . I loved Elvis and his music and humanity towards others . He was just like the rest of us in his private life . I was just 15 yeArs old when I heard the news that he was dead and thought someone was playing a cruel joke . But when the media kept announcing that he had passed I was in shock , disappointed , and angry . I wanted to see him in concert one day . If it wasn't for Elvis there would be no rock and roll .

    Anyone else notice the little black dot floating around in the upper left corner of the screen lol. It’s in every video, and at first I thought it was a fly buzzing around right there, til I noticed it never went away, and it was in every video in the same place lol. Then I look harder and notice it’s just a dot, but it’s random that it’s in every video lol. I don’t know if it’s some kind of anti theft piece he puts in so if someone steals his videos and uploads them elsewhere the dot won’t be there and that’ll be a dead giveaway that they were stolen or what. But anyways awesome video series, the Elvis history and, all the knowledge, and facts about Elvis is all fascinating.

    There will always be nay sayers as I have said in other videos. The question is this: Why not save it yourself? Why not do something about it? Since you made the move to buy it and bring it back to the public eye, it's yours to do as you see fit. I think leaving the patina might be the way to go for a while. Maybe get it to run and operate again and preserve it for what it was. I often find old Sears Craftsman toolboxes and other vintage tools. Now I could repaint them and make them look nice (as I have with others), but lately, I chose to leave them as they are found, just clean them and make them functional. Like my friend says who battled cancer, "Just like people, that tool box has scars and a story to tell. Let it tell its story....."
    I agree.

    I saw where my county coroner (former EMT with our hospital) posted a picture of himself beside a similar-looking ambulance back in 1976. The stripe on the side was similar in that it was tapered towards the back of the patient compartment instead of being a complete wrap-around. I'm betting the Elvis vehicle was built by Southern Ambulance Builders like our rigs. Keep up the good work!

    My only question is, does The Elvis Estate, and Graceland Enterprise have anything to say about this???? Do they agree that this is the real thing???? I am huge Elvis fan and hope this is. In my opinion we do not need to see this. You say this is history, and has stories. The only story is I see is his death.

    • @GoodStuffVideos
      @GoodStuffVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Graceland has no interest in this part of Elvis' story. So it would be surprising if they have anything to say about the ambulance. They certainly would not be able to weigh in on its authenticity.

    IIRC, the car Bonnie and Clyde died in was displayed for a while with the bullet holes, blood and everything else still present, and IMO it’s no different than this ambulance. Yes, death did occur, but it’s all in how one looks at it as either history or as a reminder of mortality.

    I'm sorry. I think willfully confusing "hating" with pragmatism is disingenuous. This guy talks a lot of nonsense in my opinion. I think it's well known that Elvis was long dead and in full rigormortis when he went for his ride. His day wasn't assigned. He rushed it along. And leaving this ambulance in this state underscores the decrepit way he went. I'm not suggesting a full rebuild is in order, but bringing back to the state it was in in 1977 would probably be the most appropriate gesture here.

    great series of videos. I know the museum guys reached out to a TV station but haven't heard back. Tell Billy he should contact them and tell them an anniversary of his death story could be done . They could use his videos on finding it, plus all the great connections with Elvis to the museum. It's a news story that would be so rich and history, that whoever gets this scoop first is going to make the other stations jealous.
