An up-and-coming attorney takes on a case to sue the Catholic Church for discrimination against a young woman who desperately wants to become a priest. In a world where gender equality is a critical issue, the Church remains steeped in tradition. As the trial unfolds and divine authority is challenged, their lives become in danger as extremists plot to stop the heresy at any cost.

"They managed to take a ludicrous idea and make it work.
Created Equal has a plot that simply could not happen. A nun wishes to go to a Catholic seminary in order, ultimately, to become a priest. However, the Catholic Church and the popes have been adamant....men, alone, can become priests. So, the woman approaches a law firm in order to sue the Church into accepting her to the seminary because she is being discriminated against by not being allowed in the program. While I could see someone wanting to sue for this right, finding a law firm or a court willing to try tackling the issue in the United States is problematic, as this clearly violates the notion of religious freedom. Lawmakers and judges simply do not nor could they create religious doctrine. However, the filmmakers who made Created Equal have also managed, somehow, to make the story interesting and compelling.
Sister Batista (Edy Ganem) is an unhappy nun. She is feeling unfulfilled in this role and feels that God has called her to be the first Catholic female priest. This seemingly unwinnable case is given to a hot-shot lawyer known for always setting cases without taking them to court. Tom Reilly (Aaron Tveit) plans on convincing the Sister to drop the case or accept a cash settlement. After all, he seems like a cynical guy who is much more interested in making partner at the law firm than actually doing anything else. However, something unusual happens...over time, Sister Batista wins him over and convinces him that they might just be able to win the case. Up against them is a lawyer and priest (Lou Diamond Phillips) as well as a psycho intent on stopping her at any price.
The acting and direction in this film was pretty good...and that made a seemingly ludicrous story actually work. I also liked the local color given to the story by filming it around New Orleans. My only quibble, other than the basic idea, is the big confrontation scene with the would-be killer...it didn't quite work for me. But solid acting, tension and uniqueness make this an entertaining flick."

I remember growing up Catholic... wanting to serve God but not wanting to be a Nun and couldn't be a Priest...
But Praise God..I became a Born Again Christian and am serving the Lord with my whole heart now for 44 years!!!

I was also raised catholic and am born again. When I went to Calvary Chapel in the 70s it caused problems with my parents. So I continued to go with them to Church and go to Calvary. It was hard on them for me to tell them things I learned that went against their faith. I am still going to a Calvary Church. Praise God he is so good.

One thing I have seen a lot in churches are folks who have a position but not called to be leaders therefore it causes division . A church division will not stand .

@@ABBX3 Hello, catholic means universal- Jesus Christ started the Catholic Church and if you are truly interested , read the EARLY CHURCH FATHERS’ Ireneus, Polycarp, Justin Martyr who lived nit too long after Christ. Jesus appointed Peter head of HIS church- “ thou art Peter and upon this rock I shall build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” There is a direct line of successors ( Popes) all the way to the present one. We’ve had good Popes, bad ones, bad and good priests etc but we have stood as the catholic faith for over 2000 years. If you really , sincerely want to know the true church, you need to ask the Holy Spirit and He will lead you to the truth. Happy journey. I’ve studied my faith fir 70’of my 76 years. @@maryannstypa4859Wrong. The Catholic Church misinterpreted that verse ENTIRELY. Jesus was using a figurative statement to describe the foundation of HIS church. He didn’t literally hand over the keys to Simon Peter and tell him, “Here you go, mate, you can handle the Church and I’ll just be in the corner with a lager top.” He said, “Upon this rock I will build MY church……” marking the start of the Christian faith under Him. The rest kicked off from there. The Catholic Church wasn’t founded until Emperor Constantine came along 300 years later and established it by merging Roman values. That’s probably where the idol worship came in, and lots of other denominations were uprooted, the divisions which Jesus prophesied in Matthew 6. Even if you advised us to look at the ministries of the early church fathers you’d still need to take a trip back 2,000 years and carry out a survey. They’d all tell you different. If Christ wanted a Pope to sit on a chair, He’d probably change the covenant to include a Roman numeral or something, but He didn’t. None of the church fathers He appointed were golden-top Popes - they were only appointed DISCIPLES or PREACHERS. Only papal offices tied to the mafia do that.
Side note: God’s Word doesn’t support purgatory and prayers for the dead as much as Calvinists support perseverance of the saints in their TULIP system.

You don't have to be a priest necessarily to disperse Christ's teaching.... That girl who wished to be a priest should be told that she can make people aware of the Faith through different ways... Jesus never wants us to hold a prominent position and then talk about his FAITH... AMEN❤

I loved this movie I am Christian and my pastor is female we also have a food bank which is called The Compassion center my pastor is very compassionate when it comes to God's children all of God's children I am very fortunate to be in this relationship with God he has shown me so much I believe that when you are called he qualifies the call he alone gives you what you need for the call

Paul lists several qualities a bishop should possess, including being "above reproach, the HUSBAND (a man) of one wife, etc. Concern about the moral qualities.

We have priscilla who together with Aquilla expounded to Apollos more on the new baptism apart from the baptism of John. Women were never meant to be left out in the ministry of Christ. Had it not been for a group of women, I never would have truly come to know Jesus! They were missionaries from Europe that I met in a casino in Las Vegas.Now, I went through THE hardest time in my life after these ladies left the USA and went to other parts of the world as my life comely fell apart with me unknowingly having a stroke, and it was hated at that this would happen in a prophecy there elates gave me. This group was lead by a man, but I had never even met him! I only ONCE had an email exchange with him. Sure! That has nothing to do with HIS commandment, inspired by HIS Holy Spirit, written by the Apostle Paul. Those women taught Timothy, not an entire congregation. There is NOWHERE in the Scriptures that say that those two women and others were Apostles.

Jesus told the women to "go tell the OTHERS that he has risen." At that time, there were only a few in a "congregation," and I guarantee that Jesus was making a point since "the church" refused to listen to him. Scripture is not 100 percent clear on every single detail, but if one chooses to use any critical thi king skills, the reader can see what Jesus was implying. - And he had to use that tactic since most people flat out refused to listen to him. One again, an Apostle is also a missionary and guess what? Had it not been for God pitting mainly tow women in my life at a certain type (out of a group of six women overall) I...never would have come to know who Jesus is! NO MEN were involved and Jesu shoe to work with me in this fashion since men in church are simply too domineering, sexist and hypocrites by all of them eventually getting caught in fornication with their girlfriends...and TRST ME! This story was obviously written by a non Catholic, or a CINO. The actors wore empty crosses on their necks. Catholics wear Crucifixes to remember the Body of Christ not Empty crosses. The good news is that Jesus is Lord God Almighty clothed in unsinful humanity and He is the author of *eternal life* to all who trust Him alone for salvation 💓.
He paid for all the sins of all the world at the cross (past present and future). That payment is put to your account when you have believed on Christ alone for salvation.
*This means that saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation.*

In the Bible, Book of Galatians, it is written that in Christ there is no male or female. The Bible also states that when a man and woman marry they become one in the Lord. In addition the Bible states that in Heaven there is no marriage of man to a woman, but that Jesus Himself will take Christians as His bride. Doesn't that mean, then, that both male and female will be married to Jesus? Since according to the Catholic Church women cannot be pastors, does the Church believe that men cannot be the Bride of Christ (men are not allowed to marry men) in their way of determining male and female differences? As a Christian we grow in our faith, in the understanding of what the Bible is teaching us. Is there a Christian among us who has never come to realize at some point that they had misunderstood something the Bible was saying? Just think for a moment how many things the Catholic Church itself has changed in their own beliefs or understandings. Let us continue to seek God in Spirit and in Truth. We should all want what God wants. Let us stay in prayer to continue to grow in the grace of the Lord.
There are many different types of Christians. You contradict yourself several times. You should find a Bible study and go to it at least once a week.
Jesus is the way, truth and the life. Not one can reach the Heavenly Father without going through Christ. Anx one cannot be saved unless they are born again. One must know the bible to recognize falsehoods/misconceptions that can be found in organized religion. Be not just hearers of the word, but doers. Know the greatest commandment and the 2nd which is like unto it and live by them. There us no greater joy than to know Jesus personally and to follow the example of the life He luved on earth.
Anyone can be a lieing hypocrite anywhere; or anyone can teach their beliefs anywhere.

All religions are wonky in one way or another and have parted ways from the truth of Christ and what Jesus gave to be truth; which is the truth of God; that Jesus is God and The Saviour. Even though there are religions that profess the true grace gospel of Jesus Christ for having salvation, yet at the same time on the other hand they add their own man-made doctrines, which really does so much damage to the listeners whom are in the religion and all man-made doctrines saves no one. Christ alone saves.
Jesus is not about a religion, in fact He disapproves of man-made religions. The worst thing that anyone can do is to follow any religion and regardless of which religion, the truth is that all religions fall short of the glory of God. To know God, it simply takes faith in Him and by having faith in God, He does reveal Himself by His Spirit of Truth and His truth is freeing, for the heart to know God in truth; that He is Jesus and God and Holy Spirit; all in One and He is The only Saviour; The Alpha and Omega whom came down from Heaven and paid the sin debt in full which mankind owed for sin.
There is only one way to Heaven and it is by the grace of Christ alone; His finished work by going on the cross/tree. Mankind receives no glory for mankind is as a filthy rag in the sight of God and apart from the grace of Christ being the covering mankind needs for entering Heaven, no person will enter Heaven by their own ways.
All glory, honour and praise rightfully belongs to Jesus; The One and only God; The King of kings; The Great I AM; The Alpha and Omega. AMEN, forevermore.

I know you are trying to differentiate from Catholicism and man-made religion which on its own is correct, however Christianity is watered down Catholicism and tied to the man of perdition (Pope). You need to find the narrow way which is truth (truth is the Torah). Yahushua preached Torah.

Pretty bad film, I stopped watching early on. I’m not Catholic, but it seems pretty clear to me that if a woman wants to be a ‘priest’ she should leave the Catholic faith and choose another Christian denomination. She won’t have the title, but can minister to others.

I am a woman and I can do things men can't do and weren't made to do. God made us special. Why would I want to give that up for a man's position. Am okay with what God wants, as a lady, because He is my creator, and chose to make me according to His wonderful, best purpose, can't be nothing less nor more. There are no example of women priests indeed, but there are Prophetesses like Hulda, Teachers like Priscilla , Deaconess like Phoebi, Judge etc, And also the Bible records that we are a royal priesthood, so I thought it better to just prayerfully follow God's calling for our lives, like I have heard of women like Catherine Kuhlman and Maria Woodworth Etter, and many other missionary women, who yielded to be God's servants.

Despite what movie lawyer says, there are plenty of references in the bible about male-female roles in the church (man to take on leadership positions and women not to take on leadership positions in the church or in an assembly---she does have various roles to play in the church but not one of leadership--eldership--pastorship--leading or teaching men). Yes we are created equal re: access to salvation/we are both valuable before God/He sent His Son to save both men and women, both Jews and Gentiles etc; however, God has different roles for males and females in the church ...This is clearly outlined in Gods Word from Genesis to Revelations.

I love being female and a woman now for quite some time. My father( all of them) taught me what a man is and helped me to choose a man( Ben )too by the way. This Movie interested me mainly due to the Fact it took place in Louisiana, yet the Courts arguments disturbed me over Male vs. Female. She displayed a more consistent Christian desire than her Male counterparts, there was an arrogance about them that made me almost feel ill; Priest displaying things like Smoking and Drinking allowed me to Believe they had NOT overcome the worldly nature and were unwilling to allow God through the Holy Spirt to Rid their Lives of such things. I believe a good scripture to have used would have been Galatians 3:23 thru 29, Before the coming of this Faith we were held in custody under the Law, locked up until the Faith that was to come would be revealed. So the Law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this Faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
So in Christ Jesus you are all Children of God through Faith, for all of you who were Baptized into Christ have Clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither Slave nor Free, nor is there Male nor Female, for you are All one in Christ Jesus, If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's Seed, and Heirs according to the Promise.

That was the only truly disappointing feature to me in watching this. And ONLY those called to NOT be married are not married (Matthew 19:10-12) (1 Corinthians 7:28). Not to mention thru women Christ was born. Woman at the well was the 1st witness of Samaritans town (1st group to accept Christ). Mary Magdala was the 1st to seen the Risen Christ and called her BY NAME.(Matthew 28). It's just still a misogynistic world; but women are called "helper" as is the Holy Spirit (Genesis 2"18).(John 14:16-21).

That's pretty clear and that should have been included in the movie, but was obviously deliberately excluded.
This was the culture at that time and that was not what Jesus said but Timothy and also Paul.

Paul tells Timothy in his letters to him, that a bishop is to be the husband of one wife, and that women are not permitted to preach. God has an order in creation that goes like this: God is the head of Jesus, Jesus is the head of the church, and man is the head of the woman. Don’t forget that men are told to love their wives like Christ loves the church, sacrificing himself for her. This is not a matter of discrimination, but a matter of God’s created order. Men and women are created equal, but have different roles in life and in the church. These roles reflect God ‘s commands, not man’s preference. It’s not based on Christ not choosing women as Apostles, but based on God’s order.

I was born a Catholic. Was baptized and had my first communion and confirmation. I left the Catholic religion when my 3 month old son passed away in his crib, and my uncle, who is a catechism teacher, said to me while i was standing at his casket, that he wouldn't make it through the gates of heaven because he wasn't baptized before he passed. 😢
Don't believe what that priest said. First of all when you look up the word baptism, the Catholic Church don't baptize people, they sprinkle water of their foreheads. (Even the examples given in the Bible showed persons going under the water, to represent death of the sinful person and coming up of a new person in Christ). Secondly, someone has to desire to be baptized and choose to do so for themselves when they are at an age to reason. Keep reading the Bible, God will make things clear for you!!

Maybe you should read the bible to know the kind of roles God assigns men and women! In the church, women can carry out other roles, but they can’t be elders such as pastors or priests this is clearly exemplified in verses such as(1 Timothy 3:1-7, 1 Timothy 2:11-12, 1 Timothy 2:13-14) Read these verses carefully and you will understand why God prohibits women from being elders in the church! This has nothing to do with discrimination but with Gods création order!

Clearly Paul meant one specific woman because the Bible has too many accounts of women speaking for God.

I watched this movie in its entirety. For those of us in the church this movie definitely is not a good representation of the kingdom of God. In no way are we to look to the world to tell the church what to do! Also a member should never seek to sue the church for the right to do something that is forbidden by the church. She very well should leave that particular church and go elsewhere to offer her services, where she will be accepted and welcomed. If you join a particular denomination then you accept and respect their doctrines.. quite bizarre to be part of a church and then go to the gov outside the church to get your way.❤

You are a priest forever in the order of Melkizedek the Bible says. Jesus Christ is ALWAYS the priest. Those men closest to God tell everything like it is and they still sin like the rest of us but Jesus Christ was and is a man. Women are invaluable at service but we simply are not a man and should not be jealous or carry it farther. I have been Catholic and protestant all my life. The most blessed of preachers in protestant churches male and female say Jesus Christ distributes His Body and Blood for the life of the world. Jesus is not about religion. Jesus is about having a personal relationship with him, whether male or female. Nobody enters into the kingdom of heaven unless they are born again......meaning salvation. If God calls anyone, he will put them in the position of their call & nobody can stop it.
The church’s laws are not JESUS’s laws. Beware of organized religion! It goes against the teachings of the Bible.

You are right. I am hearing these people say "church doctrine " instead of Biblical doctrine. The Bible says in both old and new testaments that women are not to teach or have authority over men. However, we are to teach other women and children.
