    Possibly one of the unsung heroes of the excellent highly professional Artisan Electrics team is your current cameraman Max. It's not that easy to shoot a continuous live event in often difficult to film venues and end up with watchable pictures, good quality sound and a well edited highly watchable final product. Obviously Jordan understands this and realises how much it benefits his channel and company profile and it's worth paying to get the job done properly. PS. Dont know Max!

    I recently immigrated to the USA (exactly 1 year ago), and I am retraining to become an Electrician (it takes a 5 years apprenticeship to do so) I am 30 years old doing a career switch from IT, I just hated the corporate world and sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours a day, this trade is amazing and it gives me so much job satisfaction, there are hard days when I need to dig trenchs or crawl in hot attics, but I still love it.

    Hi Guys being a former Electrician and only started being an Electrician at 40 ( Still employed as a firefighter ) went to college and working free one or 2 days for Electricians to gain experience. I got my City & Guilds and after 3 years started my own business and never looked back, I have Retired in Thailand at the age of 50 and living in Thailand now for 10 years the Electrics are very poor here, I do electrical work for friends to keep my hand in. But being an Electrician you will never be out of work. I still love watching Electrical work ( is that sad ) loved the building your working in reminded me the barn I retired in France.

    I always find it interesting when I see you guys using "maintenance free junction boxes" because we don't have any equivalent for that in Canada/America (at least for the most part).
    In almost all situations, junction boxes must be accessible and cannot be hidden in walls/ceilings/etc., unless they have a path such as an access hatch or removable fixture in front of them.
    I think like a lot of the differences we have, it comes back to building techniques. With wood framed walls (for the most part), the considerations are so totally different to plaster and block. So interesting to see the differences!

      Also it would not be OK to do those lower gauge wiring ring circuits in the USA. The wire must match the beaker rating. I enjoy the channel but things like ring circuits make me cringe. Also it amazes me how few breakers are in a breaker box...or consumer unit in the UK.

    I've done the 2356 level 2 & 3 at college when I left school, I then proceeded to do my EAL initial verification + inspection & testing. I'm currently working as an electrician mate about to head on and start my NVQ level 3. Its so tough when you haven't been given the opportunity of an apprenticeship our route to becoming qualified is longer 😫 but hopefully it does pay off in the end 🙌

      How long is a electrical apprenticeship in the UK vs the college route?

    • @shanksgaming2827
      @shanksgaming2827 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ryandonnelly9096 it's difficult to find an apprenticeship but it's never a 0% just try your best to find one. Going through the apprenticeship route you can qualify to become an electrician in 3-4 years with experience on site including qualifications and a job at the company you've worked with to gain your apprenticeship. If you don't get this opportunity then you'll have to just work a little harder, you'll need to go to college and complete your level 2 & 3 course. After I finished college I then went on to do my 17th edition regs and my EAL testing & inspection + initial verification course and gained my certificate. After college You'll then need to get an ECS card to work for companies/contractors and gain experience bonus is you'll get paid. Even though I had my ECS card I couldn't get work with big companies/contractors so I had to find work working for private self employed people for free as I had no experience on site. It took me nearly over a year to finally start getting paid as I gained value. As I was working as an electrician mate I realised I wasn't fully qualified unless you do your NVQ level 3 + AM2 which determine your compatancy as an electrician, this is what I'm currently pursuing. I've bought myself a MFT1741 megger tester and self learning on Jobs I've completed when on site with electricians.
      Becoming a full fledged electrician without having the opportunity to gain an apprenticeship is difficult but I believe this struggle will end up giving me the advantage in the future. If you're keen know becoming an electrician and can't get an apprenticeship and deciding to go through the college route then get ready and don't give up. 👍

    So let me get this straight someone has decided that sprung screwless sealed junction boxes maintenance free but screw terminated ones are not.
    I have seen tests that show wago lets go of cable at 20lbs i know with a screw terminal properly torqued you would probably break the cable first.
    Wago are also much higher resistance connection with terrible contact interface.

Thats the risk you take for being the employer you make the big bucks so you take the risk and have the responsibility to repair stuff damaged by accident. At the end of the day it's no different to going through a pipe. You have insurance for these things or as the employer you bare the bill.

    Although he now works for "san trics".
    Back at Middle Earth again we continue with the barn retro fit . While touching on the subjects of college study, bag bartering and food. Check out the elect.install behind the guys while at the coffee shop. Burry St Edmonds sounds like a village in an Agetha Christie novel. And Cory's thoughts on the implications of installing shoddy work are true. That's why all the codes ,standards and regulations are in place. And why Liability Insurance is important.
    All in all a nice mixed bag of issues for a Monday vlog.

      If you read the paper instructions that come with the wago box, it will say what you are supposed to use i.e. wago 221s etc

      There are two types of wago boxes you need to use the right ones with the right connectors

    • @mattbaker.digital
      @mattbaker.digital 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These look like the Wago 221-4 boxes so thought they would be okay to use with the Wago 221 connectors as maintenance free provided a tie-wrap is used. However, the installation instructions state max 20A connectors not 32A, so this might be the issue here.

    Pick up a good brand telescopic ladder for loft hatch access only, I wouldn't use them for any thing sketchy like over stairs, I've seen the Aftermath of a Sparky shatter his thigh from a bad drop ( loft hatch, were the noggins gave way from ceiling rafter's) into his 3 step hop up. Out of interest, are you allowed 4mm² radials on a 30A or 32A breaker in the UK?
    In South Africa as far as I know we can only go up to 20A max for circuits with plug sockets.
    Old wiring I've seen 30A and even a 40A circuit!
    I forgot that we can also use a three phase circuit for sockets. So for example 5 core cable for washer, drier and dishwasher each on a socket fed off a different phase each and sharing the neutral, but MUST have a 3 pole 20A breaker in the DB.

    • @reinerraymondo1586
      @reinerraymondo1586 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All sockets is on a ring in the UK, so you can use a smaller size cable ....sockets are never on a radial circuit. From WW2 to save copper ...

    Could I become a electrician at 45
    What city & Guilds ..do I need ??
    I've read different on various other sites .
    Anyone ? Know ..
    Thanks

    • @aspudkicker
      @aspudkicker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I started the journey at 45. Age is just a number, I've now passed the EAL L3. I was in a class with mostly youths many of which took the mic because I was slow getting around because I had both my knees done at the start of the L2 course. In the classroom few could keep up with me, the same situation applied to the workshop. Those who took the mic I use to tell them to try to keep up with the old geeezer, this despite me having to use walking sticks due to my knee operations complications few could keep up with me. Never worry about things others say, they will put there own weaknesses and failures into their opinions. Speak to a tutor about your concerns, they will either answer your questions or be able to direct you to where you can find the answers. Dont worry about your age, I was older then half the electrical tutors at the college I went to, if your prepared to learn they will be only to happy to teach.🙂🙃👍

      @@nickhickson8738 Go for it if you want. Only you can decide if something is right for you. Years ago I was on a gas training course with a grandpa who was learning to be a gas engineer to become self-employed to be able to help his grandson get practical experience on his plumbing course. Having a degree in physics will give you a theoretical advantage over most students.
