    1940 Ford is my favorite car in the world! The coupe version being my absolute favorite but I just love these old cars from the 1930s and 1940s. He did a beautiful job on this model!

    I built the 3 in one kit around 1960 . I think there are some new parts.. better tires. But it looks pretty much as I remember it except molded in black. I painted it maroon with black fenders. I loved building the 30's to 50's AMT and Revell kits. Thanks for the nostalgia and fun build.

    AMT did not skimp on parts & options.
    As a kid I built this semi-custom - used
    corduroy fabric on seats and headliner
    to simulate tuck n roll and thought it
    was tuff. Fun times.

    Couldn't help but notice that the fit of the right rear fender to the body has been corrected (no gap)! Great! Very nice looking build. Love those forties/thirty-nines!

    Nice build, I really appreciate your videos, a kit review and complete build all in one, very informative. I did an AMT 36 Ford coupe and had a challenge to attach the body to the fenders after it was painted without messing up the paint.

      Thanks man!
      One day someone will scream and drop F bombs (literally cussing me out for showing the parts in depth) that I show the parts, the next day someone says I didn't show the parts close enough. LOL Funny how that goes.
      I'll keep showing the parts for the builds, way more say they like it than don't like it.

    Hey Chris! I Just wanted to let ya know Im about to button up my own 40 Ford (stock). She's coming along nicely, the chrome trim was a nightmare, I had to strip the body down and repaint. Overall finish is in a Sage green, which came out a bit more olive drab than what I wanted, but eh, it is what it is. It's probably been said by more than a few builders on this channel you're the Bob Ross of model building- and it's true! Keep up the great work! We builders love the way you explain things, add a bit of humor, and make building simple and FUN! You've inspired quite a few of us, me included to get back into car building- kudos good sir! :)

    OK-Now I'm gonna haveta buy this kit! I'm trying to build a tribute to my dad's '39 coupe out of the AMT '40 Ford Coupe and it would be great if the coupe body fit those fenders so I could use the '39 parts. And this kit has the fender skirts I need! The sedan will make a nice build, too. Thanks for the video, your car looks great!

A wonderful kit... it looks like it brings out all the great details from a bygone era! Congrats on another simply wonderful job. You've once again brought everything to life, Can't tel ya enough how you've inspired a number of us to get back into building cars, introducing us to older kits, all while keeping it clean and simple to follow- kudos!

    If I built one I built a dozen of these as a kid back in the early 1960's. Recently I replicated one I had done back then as a 39 in dark green and tan interior. Came out great. Yours looks good too, too bad the red is lighter than you wanted but Ford did offer a similar red as this as well a deep wine/maroon. Good job !

Wonderful color combo, and ESPECIALLY the choice of engine, tires, etc. Really cool. The thing I REALLY like about you is that you are so personable. You like everyone and respond to ALL. Very nice build with some great tips on this kit. But I'm wondering if Round 2 is doing the best marketing job by using the original box art. I avoided some of their current kits 40+ years ago because I knew they would be a handful to assemble. I would be willing to try them with retooled parts, but they might want to make that more visible.

  • @MarkMeadows90

    I just picked this kit up today at Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon. Paying $30 for a model kit is outrageous, but I can live with $19. I plan on building mine bone stock.
    I know you build your kits pretty quickly, but I just can't stop noticing the mold line on the front fenders near the headlights. Other than that, nicely done.

    I had this kit back in the 60s! Have been looking it over, and see that it is the same kit as the one from back then, with some additions. The old one had only one hood, have been trying to determine what was the difference to build as either a 39 or 40 back then. Had to have it because I never built it back then: )

I bet that I won’t pass it up again next time! That’s a good candidate for another Shine Runner vehicle, especially with that 394 Olds it comes with! That’s a good trick on the silver or grey pencil too! Thanks buddy, appreciate it! Yours looks good too man, good job 👍!

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just in case it got any release oil on the plastic or someone who bagged it had dirty hands, etc. Sometimes when I don't clean it I'll get fisheyes in the paint from oils on the plastic. A few minutes cleaning beats having to strip paint off.

    A bit of information here. For a darker maroon.the Napa dark garnet red is a perfect match for the original stock body color. The Martin Senour paint mixture number is :3-1-9588-00. This is a perfect duplicate of the 1940 Ford Mandarin Maroon, and the 1941 Mayfair Maroon. I know this because this was the original stock color of my 1941 two door sedan project car. This is compatable with the model plastic. I am doing a 1940 sedan kit in this color. It should look very good when it is done.

    I've built this kit several times, including the coupe and the panel delivery, which share a lot of the same parts, I like your reviews, and have even learned a few things, however, with these 40 Ford's, the fenders are showing the mold lines really bad, and do need to be sanded out!

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To each their own, I like building mostly from the box, minimal work. But enjoy your mold line removal if you feel the need! :)

    • @betsy662
      @betsy662 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hpiguy I typically only do mold line removal when the castings are as bad as they seem to be with the old 40 Ford kits, all of the 40 Ford's from AMT use all of the same molds, with the exception of the body of course, so the mold lines are really prominent on the fender castings for some reason, I'm like you in a lot of ways, I don't usually remove all the mold lines either, but that one for some reason has always bothered me, I've been building those 40 Ford kits since their original releases, maybe those molds are just getting really old!

    For something different, you can paint it dark grey. The wehrmacht captured some in europe and used them in ww2.

      Those wheels trim rings and baby moon hubcaps reminds me of the wheels I put on my 49 mpc crusin classics 2 Dr club coupe!!! I want to find a more detailed version of the Ford flathead V8 and add even more detailed accutrements and then put it in the 49 Ford I believe I already have setup for a three spd column shift manual car

    Great video, thanks for making it. I just ordered a ‘40 Sedan kit from eBay. It isn’t the exact kit - maybe an earlier release. I intend to do a stock version as well, most likely, I’ll paint mine black because….this was the first hardtop onscreen BATMOBILE!!!! And I must recreate it in plastic!
    th-cam.com/video/Cowdltm7Z3c/w-d-xo.html 9:22 to 9:27 I’m not a car expert but I think the Car is a 40 Ford Sedan. If I’m wrong, it’s pretty close.
    You built an early Batmobile!!!

    For that style body, I use Testors Clear Parts glue to temporarily attach top of body to fenders. Use just few drops along edges. After painting, glue is like Elmer's glue, easy to pull apart.
