    When I visited Ireland years ago, one thing that made me fall in love with the landscape was all the mossy rocks. When I got home, I looked up how much large rocks would cost, because I wanted to keep it in mind for when I lived on my own, and WHOA. I might as well buy a car, paint it like a rock, and then at least I could rock AND roll. Having been to theme parks, I knew you could get a pretty rock-like appearance with concrete, but I didn't know how I'd do something like that until this video! I want to make a big boulder for my yard now, cover it in some nice moss and put some little flowers around it. Mmmm.

    • @ZacharyKnightStudios
      @ZacharyKnightStudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's hilarious! Glad you now have an alternative to your car plan. So much about Ireland is inspiring ... and I was there in the frigid winter! LOL ... I'm sure the summer is even better.

    • @Mavrik9000
      @Mavrik9000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe you could find a small broken car that's ready for the junkyard. Then cover it in wire and spackle away with the concrete mix. It would be an interesting art installation, that would be easily movable if you made it with a built in cracks for one of the doors to remain operational. If you weren't kidding about the size that you wanted keep in mind that junk yards sometime pick up cars for free so you might have to pay for a tow trunk.

    A tip on colouration: using liquid concrete colours (or dry colour mixed with a little water), flick dab or spray different colours onto the wet concrete after it is on the form and spritz them with pure water dilute. This helps create variations.
    I'd imagine the acrylic paint applied to the wet concrete might do the same, but I've never tried that.

    when adding some on. spray straight vinegar instead of water onto the existing dry piece. You can also spritz the final product with straight vinegar as it dry's. That will help it set harder. just soak it every couple hours for the first day or 2.

    My dad made a very realistic looking huge mushroom top for a sculpture using cement. He dug a hole in the ground the size/shape he wanted, lined in with plastic, filled it with cement, let it set, then pulled it out of the hole and put it on the prebuilt mushroom stem he'd made. He painted it vibrant poison mushroom.
    It was huge. Could have easily been another place to sit in our backyard. But it was for decor (and hiding an electrical outlet).

    Little known fact: I met a guy in California a while back when I was young whom was integral in the construction of the Matterhorn ride and all other “rocks” in the Disney theme parks. You would be shocked that all “rocks” are all artificial within the parks. They used all types of discarded metal trash like washing machines, bikes and stuff for the very middle internal welded structure before creating their secret lifelike external rock skin. He once told me he built a very large lifelike boulder using the same secret Disney formula in his front yard and one day just picked it up and placed it in another location in his front yard. He lives on a busy street and according to him he got flabbergasted looks from drivers going by. Thank you so much Sir Crafsman for sharing your secret rock recipe. I can imagine it’s similar to Disneys secret sauce and I will be doing the same for my landscaping and what not and for the fun shock of my neighbors.

How lonesome that poor sock would be.. "Within that washing machine are two unmatched socks who are the best of friends."

      @@sclogse1 Do you mean like a duct? I wonder if it would work because window units also pull room air into them, and don't they remove the heat from that room air and blow it back in? My father worked in the platecoil industry which has to do heat exchange, but I don't fully understand the dynamics. I love that you thought of a solution for the window unit, though. Last night, I was shelling some Pistachios, and I took one of the shells and thought, "hey... That looks like a tiny little knee pad! And elbow pads, too! And shoulder pads, and a little hat or helmet, two little holes could make it a mask, or you could cut them up and put them over the shoes of an Action figure or something, or use it as a bowl!" And it really reminded me of something you might think up, Crafsman! A tiny little forest man that makes his own tiny little armor and crafts, and rides on the back of a field mouse! Like something out of The Secret World of Arrietty or Grounded, you know?

      Build your tower out of 2x4s nailed, screwed or bolted to your shed, cover with hardware cloth using a staple gun and cover with concrete/cement. Go for it!
      Do the walls the same way (don't put a nail into a power line or water or gas pipe- ask me how I know) but do one piece at a time unless you can sculpt the joints between "stones" in while you go.
