@@rafaelsmerdoufranke6157 Why troll trying to sound smart it was in fact the first band Floor was in so it means the same as Floors first band. Go troll someone else please.
@@gzin33 Not trolling anyone. Just wanted to remark that the leader of the band was Mark... But you're right, it was the first band of both... And for your knowledge, at that time I was one of the few that said that Floor was the best singer, even above Tarja from Nightwish... No Nightwish fan of that time agreed with me. For them, Floor became number 1 when she joined Nightwish, and that obviously is not true.. Good vibes, people, and sorry if I was wrong with my first reaction
Floor and Epica have a close connection. Mark Jansen (no relation) was with Floor in After Forever and left the band to form Epica with Simone Simons. Floor and Simone are friends and have videos on YT of them rehearsing together. BTW, Simone was three months pregnant during this show. The guy growling "Floor Jansen" at the end was Mark Jansen, the band leader. "Consign to Oblivion" is the usual entry track for Epica. At this same concert, Floor and Simone sang "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" Baroque choral music by Pergolesi, which he wrote for the original 13th century lyrics. They sang the duet with the orchestra and choir while the band took a break. th-cam.com/video/QqdvFPBGN0c/w-d-xo.html This concert was three hours long.
Man I would have killed to be at that concert. I can't fathom what it would have been like to witness it in person. North America needs to get its shit together.
EPICA: "Consign to Oblivion" live from the Zenith is epic, and one I think everybody will agree on. I prefer their softer songs "Unleashed", "Twin Flames" or "Chasing the Dragon" off the Retrospect 10th anniversary tour DVD with full orchestra. And of Course, more Floor and Simone goodness with "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" from Retrospect. I will let the hardcore Epica fans tell you about their favourite heavier and more complex stuff.
Chasing the Dragon, soft. :D Starts out that way but has climax that's almost blackmetal in its speed and ferocity. Great song though, great recommendation. How about Tides of Time?
Essence of Silence is one of there best songs and somewhat underrated and Simone actually goes higher than Floor . Both are brilliant, and when you have the time, check Delain aswell to have a complete listen to the trio of symphonic metal godesses
They did a second song at this concert - Stabat Mater Dolorosa. BTW, just as a side note, Simone can really headbang with the best but for this concert this song was about 2 hours into a 3 hour set and she was pregnant with her son at the time. The sets don't normally go that long but this was a special concert for Epica's 10 year anniversary. Consign to Oblivion live from the Zenith in Paris.
Mark Jansen - rhythm guitar, growled vocals Coen Janssen - keyboards, synthesizer, piano Simone Simons - lead vocals Ariën van Weesenbeek - drums Isaac Delahaye - lead guitar, backing vocals Rob van der Loo - bass
Ok, so I have to say this. I watch reaction videos because it makes me feel like I'm sharing my music with someone who gets it. I'm a deathcore guy so it's hard to find like minds in physical life. You have become my favorite reacter because you make it feel like I'm seeing these videos for the first time. Your energy is awesome and I enjoy every one I watch. These days and times, it has become more and more difficult to find media that isn't like all other media. Keep it up and stay safe across the pond.
I told you... You had to react to EPICA, and this song, though amazing, is not one of their best, and one of the calmest, so you haven't heard nothing yet... To see all the power of the band (they don't need Floor to be amazing, though Floor is always welcomed xD), go to "Consign to Oblivion, live at the Zenith", it's like Epica's "Ghost love Score, and after that, man, I'm sure you will receive many suggestions (probably "Kingdom of heaven" will be one), but Epica is like Nightwish, all their songs are great or amazing masterpieces... Epica is leaded by Mark Jansen, a genius at the same level of Tuomas. He started with the band After Forever with singer... Floor Jansen... The singer is Simone Simons, another angel who came down to earth, and as you see, all the musicians are amazing, but play attenton specially to the drummer, Arien (for me one of the best). Well, I'll be waiting for more Epica and I'm sure you will do it, he... Greetings from Spain and stay metal...
I forgot to say something about your comment about opera and metal. Now that you have seen that it really works, just have to say one word: THERION. There you will find a singer (Lori Lewis, by the way, from Atlanta, USA) who gets even higher than Floor and Simone. When I listen to her, my goosebumps get goosebumps xD. You can see her live in the Gothic Live concert. My suggestions "Son of the Sun", "Ginnungagap" or "Blood of Kingu"...
I would suggest Epica - Kingdom of heaven. But most reactors either skip this one or start with "Consign to oblivion ". But my favourite would be if you could get to Versailles - Faith and decision ( m.th-cam.com/video/AdhfE6ITfoQ/w-d-xo.html ) 😁
While I love this song, I will always think this is a bad song to get in to Epica with. This song is not representative of their own music, and this song will always have the stigma 'that one song with Floor Jansen on it'. Sometimes I think that's the only thing people recommend this song for. But Epica is so much more than that. Please, listen to Epica being their own thing ... Consign to Oblivion (at Zenith), Essence of Silence (official live), Universal Death Squad or Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect). Or all of them - Essence of Silence being my favorite.
I think the reason this song gets recommended, as you say, because it has Floor in it, is because that makes a convincing reason to push someone to a new band. Reactors get flooded with requests, but still like familiarity. Mentioning this song after a Nightwish reaction makes a nice transition by familiarity with Floor (and usually the reactor will watch if only for knowing that Floor will deliver), and then suddenly after listening this this... "Well I gotta hear more Epica!"
@@Un0rdin4rYPr0gr4mmeR Oh, I really think those 2 songs are amazing, but it would be like asking reactors that don't know Nightwish start with The Carpenter or Elvenpath... Simone Simmons, she of the red hair, S shaped mic stand, and very superior voice. The guitarist for Epica is the founder and song writer as well as the growly voice.

I don't know much about Epica even I love their music (usually it's in the background so I don't know the songs' names). Simone is great anyway in all ways. As for Jinjer - Judgement (& Punishment), I speak astronomy, Retrospection, Who is gonna be the one and may be Beggar's dance - I placed the songs in order for reactions I see, there can be different opinions of course. As for new bands - I would highly recommend to check Van Canto - it's a German "heavy metal" band. If you haven't heard of them - please don't check it out - the reaction would be even better without knowing who they are and what they "play". Songs? Just pick one. There are lots of Metallica covers, Iron Maiden, Nightwish etc, there are their own songs as well - it doesn't really matter for the first reaction
