- Street Machine's own Andrew Broadley has owned this neat LC GTR Torana since he was a teenager and over the years it's had a progression of hot sixes and mild V8s - now it gets the biggest upgrade of it life with a Harrop TVS 2300 supercharger and a Haltech Platinum Sport ECU.
PS: Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers towards Scotty's son Alex. Alex is out of hospital and happy to be back home.

My old engine! Used to make around 170wrkw with Crow cam and 6500rpm rev limit. Good to see you turned it up! Sounds awesome mate.

I remember the first time I ran a 5.0 up on the dyno. It sounded like a Nascar and when 138rwhp came up on the screen I thought there was something wrong with it. Lol.
Love the lc and colour my brother had an xu1 years ago it was called lj tori had a 208 stroker 1 3/4 sus elec dizzy terra rocker 40/80 cam bathurst box kept along side a lc with a 308 hurricane extractors but not worth as much as his house lol

Progress update: Found other parts (possibly the final parts) to make sure I have nothing dodgy left in the front end of the car and I'm in the process of accidentally and repeatedly pulling manifold bolts out of block due to seized nuts...penetrol did not help. 🤦 Goleby's prices for that 900hp kit make it REALLY hard not to cheat Scotty, especially as he's closer to me. 😈 No, I'm not going that stupid. 😁 #HomeBuilt100%
I really like the bonnet, mate. The tapered nose of the scoop looks way better than those F*** ugly camaro style reverse cowl scoops being put on everything in street machine. It really compliments the LC front end.
i have never been a fan of the LC Torana body style i like the LH and LX Torana body style
but i have to say i like this LC
For one add on and an ECU 150hp addition is pretty sick!!
That's a shit load of bottle tops for that 150hp tho

@@deanrobert8674 close to 2 grand for the Haltech + fitting and tuning is extra.... and 11 grand for the Harrop blower kit.
Same money could have built a pretty staunch atmo LS with more power and more revs.

Back in the day when the Holden 5l was new we used to supercharge the engines with cenrifugal blowers on stock engines. At about 430 flywheel horsepower they would break ring lands on the pistons , be careful about winding up the power any more , your just about there.........
Yep, that's why things are being kept very conservative at the moment.

Had a stock LX 3300 in high school (96) & I should have kept it. Looked at Torries on carsales & even std crappy 6cy LX/LH is going for low 30k.
They are not cheap any more.

Does the cost of this super charger comes with free labour installment. Because, mechanic s charge about $90 a hr. Do the maths.
In this day and age I would be devastated if a blown 5 litre made 225 rwkW. It has the look, but it has no go. I would be seriously considering pulling out that engine and dropping in a virtually stock SR20DET and make the same power. Save a fortune on not having to pay v8 rego, but more importantly it would become a nimble little handler again.
Watch the next video and tell us it has no go.

@@STREETMACHINETV yeah 11.43 is respectable enough. Not an 8, but it's certainly nothing to be embarrassed about either. Still would be tempted to put an SR20DET in it. Betting the same kind of times could be run with only mild mods.

@@STREETMACHINETV I remember probably 30 years ago when Willowbank was a fairly new track an LJ GTR XU1 running 13.3 with a 202 and triple Webbers and thinking that was pretty decent, so 11.43 is nothing to sneeze at, although 10's is another level of street cred.
Finally a tuff Aussie car with a Aussie motor and Aussie blower, abit disappointed in the kw’s but we no the harrop has the high kw potential but 225kw for a 10k plus supercharger kit I’d be spewing
Stock bottom end, the blower can support a lot more but needs an engine under it.
STREETMACHINETV yeah I understand that, I’ve wAtch the harrop video on TH-cam ,355 making 606kw . I’m just saying it’s not a real good bang for buck, for any joe blow off the street that setup on there car they’d have no change left over from 15k. Cool video and car tho

Great stuff, now how much do tuners charge for a supercharger, harrop or even magenson, think about it people if that easy why does it cost over $12( thats with headers full exhaust and blower) to 20K, even changing the cam if required, still should not cost that much people.

The holden v8 is better sounding, shame they didn't go ahead with a dohc 5 litre motor they built before going to ls1 in the s2 Vt
You're right, no every car needs 700hp, but it's better to have it and not need it, than want it and not have it

Stock engine, conservative tune, double the horsepower. You've got to put these things in perspective.

@@angus823 Good point, but it's still a vanilla Camry, plus they quote engine, not rear wheel horsepower.
Most stock 5.0 are lucky to run off 150rwhp. They weren't all that powerful. Just old design. My V6 rav4 made more on the dyno. Enthusiasts still love the 5.0 though.
And dont forget the torque figures will be fat on this one

I like the fact they put a Harrop charger on it they an Australian company, that engine they put it on is an Australian engin. I doubt that there is an off the shelf kit foe it from foreign companies

I thought these where set to run a water to air heat exchanger under the blower with a front mount ? I didn't notice that fitted? Or wasn't it covered in the video that's all?
It's fitted, but yeah we didn't film that part at the time. In hindsight we should have

That huge reverse cowl ruins the look of the car. I really doubt you have that much of a clearance issue

Yep, that cowl was built to go over a tunnel ram which I'm no longer running. Turns out the blower actually fits under a stock bonnet once you clearance the bracing. Unfortunately we only figured that out after cutting a hole in the most mint LC bonnet Gumtree has ever seen ;)

I have a vn 50 ltr .would that supercharger fit under my bonnet.?? Do not want to cut or mod my bonnet .
I'm fairly certain it would fit under a stock VN bonnet, mate. We put a stock bonnet on this car the other day, and it fits once you clearance the bracing. It should fit under a Commodore bonnet pretty comfortably.

I wanna know why there's no engine manufacturers that have designed a supercharger directly into the engine design where is running directly off the timing chain or gears. Should be more compact if the supercharger is built in the block and more efficient. Smaller footprint, more power
Nick B roots blowers were driven off the timing gears in their original application.
There is a Kawasaki motorcycle engine built like that

They had 165kw stock at the flywheel, this is 300hp at the rear wheel (equivalent to 300kw at the flywheel)

All the stock ones I ran up had between 140-180rwhp. 300rwhp is decently high for the 5.0

No but Harrop do them for LS engine as well. It would certainly wake the Tahoe up.
It needs the matte black border and two horizontal silver pinstripes on each tail light assembly like the SL model had. Looks much better. Can't remember what the GTR had.

XOZ Industries Holden 5.0L 304 cubic inch. Originally designed in the 60s in 2 different displacements, 253 and 308 cubic inch. Was gradually developed up until about 1999 when it was replaced by the LS. Completely Australian designed and built.
It would have been cheaper to build a red headed 308 and make that power

Ease of fitment, packaging, instant throttle response are juat a few reasons. Turbos are great but they're not the only way to have fun
You don't use a turning device to measure horsepower.
Nobody use's BHP figures anymore,only real world figures. The Engine manufacturer will use BHP but they are not real world numbers and have been made obsolete in most countries since 1987. Example...a 200hp at flywheel car is more impressive the a 200bhp at flywheel car. BHP is false advertising. Engines are tested now only in complete car with full exhaust,air con,power steering and alternator all connected to give accurate power figure..
