In early 2000...my wife and I moved to Bloomington, IN and went to a small venue called the Hospital to see Jason Molina/MEC for $5...we never heard of him/them and when Jason began to sing his first song that night our jaws dropped to the floor...I've been hooked ever since! Amazing songwriter, singer, and musician along with the other band members! Peace.
Yeah I was kinda hoping some of your fans would be commenting on here tonight but I know they are listening and honoring you and of all the musicians I love I can’t think of any other that deserves to be as honored as you do Jason I never got to see you live I found your music a couple months after you passed it was really sad when I found out I thought you were still among the living in the human world it was a shock to me because I was just starting to listen to your music and it was music I found on my own by accident on TH-cam wish I knew about your music when you started I couldn’t believe I had never heard your music or heard of you or your bands it felt like I was meant to hear your music I related to your music so much and still do I know wrote them but you put everything I’m sure many have felt at times through their lives I know I did and still do thank you Jason I know you’re gone but not forever…
Thanks for sharing this- my intro to Jason was similar to yours. Until i cud research him, I thought he mite be a NEW great talent. Then I learned about the backstory. As a recovering alcoholic, I often listen to Jason because i truly know his struggles and it makes my burdens lighter-- He IS helping me stay sober by telling of his own- and I think he would appreciate that.😮 s
Lyrics: No moon on the water The way i’m acting it’s no wonder The blues come and I can’t outrun ‘em I ain’t foolin’ me I ain’t foolin’ no one I have to work hard to suffer alone I have to work hard to be so alone Don’t like half of who I’ve been But I’ve kept my promises to all of them Tie my wings behind my back Cut out my eyes and baby fill ‘em with lead Cut off my head and put the black mule’s there And trade my heart for a fire Fill my bones with the grey wolf’s ghost Face us to the shore Give me one single reason to live To try anymore And it don’t have to be good It don’t have to be good (x2)
Lyrics: mountain of the dead are you listening you're gonna lose so much if the lightning's going by you've already lost so much if the moon has gone by all the good things are asleep in the human world it's made more room for the dark to walk around my heart is sick and I didn't make it out speak to all my friends whose names I don't remember now you're gonna lose a lot you'll get used to it somehow
The first song by songs ohia I ever heard was Lioness and I fell in love with this song, really. But no moon on the water is as good as the other ones. I love all of them and I miss Jason.
Dann Tang-Lee Dempsey..I have found myself asking the same question: How in fuck did I not know of this guy.Through my Neil Young Radio on Pandora (similar genre) I was introduced to this guy...I thought..! Who hell was that guy while listening to a song By Magnolia Electric Company....I study him and find out he's already someplace else...his gift to me is all the music he has already recorded...there is so much...thank you Jason.
JASON ANDREW MOLINA, SONGS:OHIA ,MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC Co. I JUST LOVE THIS MANS MUSIC AND ADMIRE HIS WRITING SO MUCH HE PUT SO MUCH FEELING RAW EMOTION INTO ALL HIS SONGS AND REALLY ALL HE EVER HAD IS ALL HE GAVE TO US SONGS...THANK YOU JASON MOLINA

This pair of tracks might be his most haunting ever, and that's REALLY saying something.
This version of "In the Human World" is just plain haunting and devastating...in a good way!

I feel the fabric of my life moving forward. I drink, I sleep I work till I weep.
Miss you, man. Ran into you in New Orleans when I was in my early 20's after Katrina. Needed it, especially for the ride back.
Lyrics:
No moon on the water
The way i’m acting it’s no wonder
The blues come and I can’t outrun ‘em
I ain’t foolin’ me
I ain’t foolin’ no one
I have to work hard to suffer alone
I have to work hard to be so alone
Don’t like half of who I’ve been
But I’ve kept my promises to all of them
Tie my wings behind my back
Cut out my eyes and baby fill ‘em with lead
Cut off my head and put the black mule’s there
And trade my heart for a fire
Fill my bones with the grey wolf’s ghost
Face us to the shore
Give me one single reason to live
To try anymore
And it don’t have to be good
It don’t have to be good (x2)
Lyrics:
mountain of the dead
are you listening
you're gonna lose so much
if the lightning's going by
you've already lost so much
if the moon has gone by
all the good things
are asleep in the human world
it's made more room
for the dark to walk around
my heart is sick and I didn't make it out
speak to all my friends whose names I don't remember now
you're gonna lose a lot
you'll get used to it somehow
fucking hell
We love you, Jason

.
If you listened to the Visit by Jackson C. Frank and then these songs right afterwards you'd have no idea they were different singers.
a voice was lost today.
We lost a lot - and we shouldn't get used to it.
