Good news and bad news. The bad news is that my VW dealer diagnosed this as a faulty ignition barrel, which took 8 weeks to arrive from Germany (coded for my key), and $725 to supply and fit. Problem not fixed, Grumpy customer. I was then quoted $800 to supply and fit the replacement switch, at which point I googled the problem (unsure still of what the dealer was trying to describe to me). The good news is that I then found this video, and I fixed the problem for $150 for the part (maybe could have got one cheaper, but I was in a hurry as the van had been out of action for 2 months already). It took all of 40 minutes to do the job, thanks to your clear instructions. Short version - thank you very much!

John. Thank you for spending the time to put this vid up. I’ve a T6 so had to take the steering wheel off to take the bottom cover off to access the switch. New switch for £14 and BOOM!! Problem solved, key turned. Took me a couple of hours & I’m no mechanic!! Looker’s commercial wanted over £400 to sort this. I’m very grateful indeed!!! Cheers! Al
Fantastic video, I couldn't understand how a switch could physically stop my key turning as with a bit of pressure downwards it would go but knew I was on borrowed time!. Followed the video and although the ignition switch was hard to get out of the gap and had to take an extra bit off it worked! Great start to the video saved me watching loads knew what I needed! Thank you so much! Any ideas how to get my sliding door open, it won't open from inside or out and can find a video of how to get the door card off when door is closed!
Hi glad it helped 👍 I've never had a stuck Sliding door , so I wouldn't have clue 🙈 just pop the studs out on your door Card and it should tease off pretty easy . Do a video and let us know how you get on 🙂✌️
Yes this fixed my T5. Omg it was getting harder and longer to turn the ignition. Stuck at work for 20 mins when all I wanted to do was start her up and go. It's not a hard fix so they avararage DIYer can fix this. 😊

Thanks for this super useful video that presents a diagnosis of the problem, the part needed and how to fit it. Cost me £25 from Autodoc, plus a few days wait to get it , but it has done the job and saved me a fortune. Thanks once again. Have a great Christmas 🎅
