I used to buy superline hooks and bend them out for this very reason but when you bend the hook it will remove the temper at the bend and it would either straighten out or break. Owner has finally raised the bar! Great video too.
I'm so glad Ryugi came up with that hook design. It fixed just about all of the EWG problems with that design, glad to see Owner also using it, their stuff is at the top of the market.
Glad they finally listened to a fisherman instead of a "Designer"!! I've been able to bend up about 40% of my widegaps, but that gets expensive!! Hope they come out soon.
I’m glad they came out with these. I typically use regular offset worm hooks sight fishing simply because the point is further out from the eye than an EWG is. The new Haymaker solves this and allows for a larger bodied bait. Definitely a very useful hook that’ll end up replacing most EWGs in my terminal boxes.

People always use the example of the gap on a ewg but I've caught hundreds of bass on them and never had a problem, I also bend the point up just a touch. Proofs in the pudding not the theory!
The extra gape due to the angle of the point is helping but the offset will be doing most of the heavy lifting hooking the fish sooner (hence deeper/further back),i offset every single hook i use on lures and bait for lots of different species in salt water. Hope this hook is salt water friendly ! Would love to use them if it is.

That hook is a huge improvement to other ewg hooks! You guys did good! That being said..imo it could be better still and you almost got me but the line tie has to be a little different for me to ever go back to an ewg hook. I'm not bashing. This is awesome but still needs a tad of work imo. I'm happy to explain but not sure I can on a TH-cam comment.
Imagine a 2/0 or 3/0 for a Carolina rig.. it'd be lights out!!!!!!! Especially on those really long hook sets... I need about 87 packs of those from 2/0-6/0
Downside- Looks like this hook is gonna cause more damage to the bass. Not just the mouth, but there could be more hooks in gills. And you could see in the video a few got hooked in the eye area. The smaller bass will be losing eyes, potentially.
Dose that wide'r bend give the fish more leverage to come off ? The hook looks like it would be better for hook sets ! But with that bigger bend * ya better not give the fish any slack * or it can come off easily? What's your thoughts?

I've caught ALOT of fish on EWG hooks over the last 20 years.I even prefer them flipping,never had a problem hooking fish,but I've had many problems with straight shank.To each their own,but I don't see how you can texspose the hook with a strait bait

These vids are bad for my addiction I just ordered an embarassing amount of these haymaker hooks.. Lol Im a tackle junky and todd its your fault i relapsed. haha You called it the uppercut hook and that sounds so much better than haymaker.

Just bend your ewg hook out a bit, thats it, no need to wait for some of these, its no big deal
Just make sure that when you bend it out you don’t make it weak, which is impossible once you bend it. So kinda a big deal
