      Yeah he really should be much larger. Levy is obnoxious and Hikaru can be really proud at times. I know they are way stronger than Antonio but I love his humility and better didactic instruction on chess.

    It's such an indictment of chess to say that a position in a world match had already been reached. Just think about that. These are the best players in the world and they're repeating moves from years ago. It's exactly why Fischer ended up hating chess in his later years. The entire game has become mostly an exercise in brute memorization. So what. As Agad often says, "Nothing new here, this has all been played before."

    • @tellahsage6477
      @tellahsage6477 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. This is why i believe that chess is simply much more exciting at an amateur level. Memorizing dozens of computer lines up to move 30 simply takes the soul out of it, but that's professional chess in 2023 for you... sad. I really hope not too far into the future we start seeing Chess960 in classical format gaining traction as Carlsen said.

    You can't offer a draw before move 40, but you can repeat moves unforced, which still leads to a draw.
    What's the difference?

      @rohangeorge712 ปีที่แล้ว

      its not verbal :)

    • @MrK623
      @MrK623 ปีที่แล้ว

      In many tournaments there is something called "A Grandmaster Draw", where they will offer and accept a draw after only a few moves for reasons other than chess. (They are tired, a draw will help them and not hurt them, etc.) Fischer was correct in alleging that the Russians were colluding but he went about it the wrong way. So in order to crack down on this type of thing, you can't offer a draw (until after move 30, by which time one player may wish to press his advantage as they are out of the book by then (usually)) and so in order to get a draw early, they must repeat the position 3 times over the board instead of asking and receiving a draw from the opponent.

    Just a comment. I like the commentary, however there are so many alternate tangents explored that I lose track of the original game. The side - "what ifs" shouldn't be greater then the actual moves played.

    Looked like Ding got rattled by game 2 tbh, b5 looks like a very natural move but I guess Ding would rather take his chances on fighting for wins with the white pieces - a bit worrying that Nepo is playing so much faster than him if he wants to convert anything to wins tbh but that c4 knight looks so problematic by the end of the b5 line that it's hard to understand why he didn't want to play it out

      Could just be the level they’re on + match strategy. Computer was showing zeros despite blacks seemingly stronger position and Ding is fresh off a loss so why not stabilize with a draw instead of possibly going down 2 points which would be a disaster.

      Ding, tho he has good traits, does not have the instinct to be champion. He relies on his friends to get to above 2800 Elo, so he can qualify, and he plays passively here, which shows me he is happy to simply play the WC match to win the prize for second place. Ding is probably thinking that's the most money he's ever made and will be happen to retire on this prize, since costs are low living in China.
