Thanks. I had the kit loft custom built a few years ago. It's not quite everything I wanted it to be (I later chopped the front and doors and replaced with wire), but it works well.
🙋🏻♂️. Is it wrong to look at this completely opposite view? : the once’s that didn’t trap r healthier or fatter or are eating the fatty seeds out of the mix. Therefore have more fuel left . This is how I always looked at it. 🙏
@HerbysHanz The Rollers get zero fat seeds. They fly on wheat and milo only. What tends to happen is that the harder working birds are tired when they land and don't compete as well with the rest. The ones that don't work as hard, therefore pig out on the majority of the feed. When that happens, they lose the desire to trap as fast as the rest. They are usually the culls of the kit and rarely develop much long term value due to excess resistance to the roll. Keep in mind that Birmingham Rollers originated out of the same genetic stocks as Tipplers, so there are always some birds that genetically revert back to more of a non performing, straight highflying type. 150 years ago, breeders in Toronto genetically capitalized on these types and developed strains (in part by breed crossing) that had much more fly than roll.
Hi Kerby agree with you there. Always the young till they learn. That’s why I’m fitting bobwires. I have about 5 young want to sit like hawk bait for ages.after the others all in.
It helps to use a trap/bobs, but for whatever reason, when I started, I flew the old Black Country style - in and out the door using the feed for total control. You'll notice that the kit loft has traps, but I've never used them even though the birds know how. Old habits die hard.
My 1st attack was a bird that got out.....flew over my head and before it could land in roof coopers snatched em. He literally was out about 5sec. I never even saw the hawk it jus appeared as if they had an appt
Yes, it can happen super fast. There have been days when I've turned kits out and by time I turn my back to face the kit a couple seconds later, a BOP is flying off with one or has one on the ground.
Nice looking birds. I like the design of your kit loft. Thanks for the information as well. 🙂👍💯

It's always chaotic the first several outings!
They're still squeaking. They won't take long to get it together.
