  • Rocky Bayou State Park, on the shores of Rocky Bayou, is a hidden gem in the town of Niceville, Florida. Containing a 42 site Campground, State Park is a great place for boaters and nature lovers to experience the Choctawhatchee Bay Area and the stunning beauty it affords.
Originally used by the US military during World War II for gunnery and bombing practice, the land was converted to a state park in 1966. Now, people from all over the area and visitors to Northwest Florida can swim in the tannic waters of Choctawhatchee Bay or kayak, paddleboard, and water ski around the bayou.
Some Of the park’s experiences and amenities include…
•BICYCLING- Visitors can cruise around the park’s 3 miles of paved roads.
•BOATING- The park posts a well-maintained boat ramp giving boat access to Rocky Bayou as well as the rest of the Choctawhatchee Beach and the Gulf of Mexico near Destin, Florida.
•CAMPING- 42 spacious campsites are nestled in the park’s pine forest with full campground facilities including water, electricity, and heated/air-conditioned shower facilities.
•FISHING- Anglers can try their luck catching species including mullet, trout, and flounder.
•HIKING- The park contains three nature trails for hikers to enjoy. The Red Cedar Trail, home to many large red cedar trees, the Sand Pine Trail along the shores of Puddin Head stream, and the Rocky Bayou Trail which follows the shoreline of the bayou.
•KAYAKING/PADDLEBOARDING- Because the bay is an inland waterway, paddlers will enjoy cruising the calm waters looking for dolphins, otters, and water loving raptors like bald eagles and ospreys.
•PICNIC PAVILIONS/PLAYGROUND- To picnic pavilions are available for use with barbecue grills. There is also a small playground located in the middle of the day use area.

Great overview of the park...even though I live close, I've never been. I like that you mentioned accessibility.

@@thebutlerfamilyadventures Now I see why I haven't been there. This park is in the Panhandle but I'm in Jacksonville. I thought you mentioned Northeast Florida. I'm bike touring all over Florida so I might end up there sooner or later anyway. Thanks
