Man I just found this guy a few days ago by myself and saw this while scrolling through your videos, I just had to watch. He's a genius lyricist and his music is so beautiful yet sad. It tears your heart out while healing your soul. The power of great passion mixed with powerful lyrics and beautiful music to accompany it, it hits you like a truck

John Moreland is one of the few men that can me feel something with every single word they sing. It is a rare thing in music today..Drake White another great one. His acoustic stuff is absolutely fantastic..His covers are fantastic as well..

Your little bit waxing lyrical on the "human condition" is spot on. I'm here watching as I'm of those that decided to be his own island and live alone in the idealistic setting but still craves human connection. I've only watched your videos relating to folksy / Americana singer songwriters but so far so good sir. Your openness to new experiences scores points with me.

  • @royarnold2929

It´s not just 1 sliver of human experience though, it strings together a few of tem. It´s massive self loathing of a very talented intelligent human being coupled with his pain puting the blame for his lost love outside himself. Just think about being at the receiving end of of this masterpiece, what at guilt trip! Second verse gives it a different route but that does nothing to take the darkness away from that first one, and for me the "strung out on leaving" combined with giving in to his demons is about suicide and it makes the 1st line second verse more macabre. Good stuff! I can listen to this again and again for its beatifull rhyme, lyrical brilliance, heart felt delivey and great musician ship . What a gem this guy!

He made his television debut on Stephen Colbert where he sung "Break My Heart Sweetly." It's a pretty good song as well. They promoted that album too.
I'm not sure why, but they don't have an official video of that performance on Stephen Colbert's TH-cam channel. Perhaps they did, and then pulled it down for licensing issues or something?. Someone else did upload that performance though.

    • @jeremylilly1054

Break My Heart Sweetly is great. The lyrics "I should be dealing with my demons, but I'm dodging them instead" showcase his skills as a writer as well as a singer. Powerful lyrics right there, and in all his songs

Oklahoma is like a clash of 4 different cultures. South Eastern Oklahoma is full of outlaw spirited people. Western Oklahoma is more of the Cowboy culture. Both Eastern Oklahoma is more farm culture. Then you have all the Indian reservations. All that combined makes for independent minded people. Who may not necessarily take to being governed. I have hundreds of relatives from Oklahoma so I can speak with some knowledge.

    • @RockN2Country

Being from Easter (Tahlequah, Ok where Turnpike Cut their teeth), I’m not going to argue but expand, as these areas are isolated and you have to live in them to truly understand what and why they are the way they are. Outsiders won’t completely get it. Eastern Oklahoma has and will always have my heart.

This is the second one I've come across today that I missed 3 years ago. JM is the real deal for sure. You mentioned how much you enjoy acoustic performances. I don't know if I ever suggested this one before, but you should add to your list "She's With Me" by Collin Raye. Try to do the official video if you can. It adds a great deal to the overall experience of the song. Take care and enjoy your weekend...

I actually live east of Tulsa. Roughly halfway between Tulsa and Springdale. West of Siloam Springs.. It's kind of nice to see another good artist come out of Oklahoma. I don't know too many artists that came from Oklahoma besides Reba MacIntyre and Carrie Underwood. I know a few people that actually knew of Carrie Underwood before she became famous. Apparently she liked to party a lot.
I thought Roy Clark resided in Tulsa at some point, and I thought I heard that Ronnie Dunn was from Oklahoma too. I just now remembered Tobey Keith and Blake Shelton, also. I guess there's more stars from Oklahoma than I had originally thought when I first started typing this comment.
