Love the sound, loved seeing lots of spotters as well including lots of youngsters. Hard to believe this engine has been around since 1948 and still going strong! Reminds me of my 50th Birthday, I drove 78018 from Loughborough GCR to Leicester North and as the other paying driver did not arrive, Drove all the way back. Light engine only but it was marvellous and am saving to take a full rake for my 60th!
Having watched this in bite sized pieces over the past week or so, I've really enjoyed it. I think that I might be dipping into your back catalogue soon.
Great video, thanks. Nostalgia for the heavenly sounds of a steam locomotive and the journey between Portsmouth and Bath which I did many times several years ago (but not with views like these).
Have subscribed.i did some of the routes with a class 37 for routes learning video back in 2001 some of my best days out there filming for the railway s.keep up the good work Ron's Garden Railway
Thank you for filming that fantastic journey! loved every minute, even when the lens fogged up, never mind it's the time of the year and the weather. I can't believe that you came through Fareham ( my local station) No worries I will catch you next year!
Thanks for watching & the kind comment! There will be future videos, it just depends on when the next tour is in the south & more importantly, my availability due to that thing called work! 😉
Hi Michael, thank you for your comment. Please look through the channel to see previous videos that I have taken, there will be more when the time & rail tours allow.
Brilliant video. May I suggest squirting a bit of hydrophobic spray on the lens of the camera before every outing. It will help during mist and rain as the moisture will bead up and run off much easier
Hi Material Ambience, thank you for the kind comment! Unfortunately I am not a member of the Tornado support crew team but who knows where this "bit of fun" hobby might take me!
Fantastic video mate! Shame this technology wasn’t available before modernized stations, electronic signaling etc. Would’ve been great to see nothing but the older stations, all the loads of signal boxes, signalmen waving, and semaphore signals galore! It was great in the 1980s before modernization a real Time Machine.
Another corker of a video from you, Shoddy. Got to admit, a Black Five provides a great soundtrack. Keep em coming - perhaps a trip to the USA, put the go pro on the front of the Big Boy!!!
Hi Ian, many thanks for the kind comment! I think there’s only 1 other loco that can give a Black ‘un a run for its money on the sound front & that’s an S15. What a belting suggestion, if the boys in the USA are prepared to pay the flights etc then I’m most definitely in lol!
Hi & thanks for the kind comments! Thats something to potentially consider in the future but what must be remembered is that monitoring the cut off etc would be extremely difficult as this would interfere with the driver carrying out his work so unless I got another 3 or 4 cameras, it would be quite difficult to do unfortunately.
Looking at this footage, it’s very clear that we should go back to traditional steam trains and traditional train carriages, such as those with compartments - modern train carraiges are horrible by comparison, even in first class
Hi mate, got some great videos on your channel, I’m looking at achieving similar footage when I’m out and about driving. I’d like to know how you set up your GoPro to get such long/high quality footage and how you mount it to the loco if that is something you would be happy to share? Many thanks!
Hi KC, thanks for the comment! The GoPro is mounted onto the running board via a magnet. I also have an external battery & microphone which are all connected together which allows the better sound (in theory) & longer recording time. The battery is placed into a box to protect it from the weather & “grime” that comes from the engine. Like the camera, the microphone & battery box are held in place with magnets. It’s taken some time to get right but I think I’ve finally got there!
Hi Charlie, apologies about that but the memory card can only hold so much. The second photo does say the footage stops at Bathampton junction but hope you enjoyed the previous 4 half hours.
Good to see this tour again. I enjoyed watching and spotted myself on the platform at Worthing.
Best 4+hrs I've spent on YT in a long time. Loved seeing all the enthusiasts turning out to watch 👍
Thanks for the kind comment Vincent & really pleased you enjoyed the video!
Tyler Mac wow

An early start for you as well then!
@@Shoddy127 It certainly was, and I can confirm it was absolutely freezing! 🥶

Great stuff John & thanks for the kind comment! All the very best, Ian
A steam locomotive travelling at high speed is one of mans greatest machines

Glad you enjoyed it Val, I always like taking the engines on my home patch!
1:39:00.. That was a nice touch when you mentioned your local station. Bedhampton.
Many thanks @TheSpikehere, it’s always nice to take the engines past home, just adds that little extra touch to the trip!
Shame about the weather but a great video all the same. Thanks for posting - keep up the good work!

I have been transported back in time......Forgetting how to breath...what a breathtaking experience...
Thank you for the kind comment @kohedunn, it’s hard graft but the rewards are endless!
Great video. Enjoyed the ride 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Ashfaq

Great vid.Strange seeing myself from the trains view
Haha, it’s strange watching other people’s videos & seeing myself too lol!
That’s me on the 1st bridge after Westbury and the class 66. Honest!!!
Fantastic video footage. Kind regards, Jake.
Many thanks Jake, glad you enjoyed it!

Awesome stuff, I hope you get to do more of these in the new year. Tornado would be amazing as well ❤
I'd love to see that too!

Keep doing these buffer beam videos. They convey you.
Would it be good to have mph, psi, regulator and cutoff settings at bottom of screen?
Hi & thanks for the kind comments! 🙏🙏🙏❤🤍💚
How fast is this beautiful train going? I'm getting dizzy !!!!!
44871 is limited to 60mph on the mainline.
شكرا لعملك
Kind regards Mustafa
What is it making the loud clacking noise when braking?
It’s probably the snifting valves opening due to no steam being applied as the regulator had been shut by the driver.
Looking at this footage, it’s very clear that we should go back to traditional steam trains and traditional train carriages, such as those with compartments - modern train carraiges are horrible by comparison, even in first class

What do the numbers behind some of the station's names mean? For example, Worthing - 1 in 754?
Hi lolookie1682, that is the gradient of the track, basically saying how steep the railway climbs. The bigger the number, the less steep it is.
Great video amazing journey just a shame we didn't get to see Bath and Bristol as that's why I watched it so the title is a bit misleading
Hi Charlie, apologies about that but the memory card can only hold so much. The second photo does say the footage stops at Bathampton junction but hope you enjoyed the previous 4 half hours.
shame you missed Bath after 4 hours. nice footage though
Hi Johnboy, it was indeed but hey ho, hopefully I’ll get it another time!
Agree and Bristol as that's why I watched in the first place
