I was so pleased to find this solution to my problem. Alas, it didn't work! I have new PC with an Asus A520M-K board, which is not on the Windows 11 Supported List on the Asus website. So it seems you need to check the Supported List before wasting your hard-earned on a module that will get you nowhere.
Oh wow! I have read Microsoft keeps adding new requirements for 11 beyond just needing a TPM 2.0 module. As far as I remember, Asus didn’t list that quote on FAQ 5 when I made this video! Thanks for the information and sorry that just adding a TPM 2.0 didn’t work for you!

I have same problem on my Asus PrimeH570M-Plus and idk which TPM 2.0 to get or know if this motherboard has a tpm input location! I was gonna get this one but i am not seeing anything with 14 pins on the motherboard. Help.😊
According to the manual, the TPM connector is next to the SATA ports on the right bottom of the motherboard. It’s actually a 13 pin connector. But you don’t need a hardware TPM. In your BIOS, go into advanced mode and look for PCH-FW Configuration and make sure it’s enabled. It should be by default but if you’re getting some kind of TPM not present kind of warning, it may be disabled.
I installed a tpm 2.0 discrete module on my motherboard. My cpu has ftpm. I am trying to use the module, to avoid a problem caused by the ftpm. When i switch from ftpm to discrete tpm in my asus BIOS, it changes back after i save and restart. Any ideia of whats happening?
That’s a new one I haven’t seen in the comments. I would try resetting the BIOS to defaults and trying again. This is just a guess on my part, but that’s where I’d start.
The problem is that even motherboards of the brand can have different TPM modules. Make sure to consult your motherboard manual for details about the specific TPM you’ll need.

Yeah. I'm not really sure how it slipped by me. Depending on where I'm filming, I use a lot of different mics and if I'm not really careful, running it through a compressor isn't good enough.
I'm hoping people will check to make sure they don't just have the TPM turned off in the BIOS first... sometimes it's already there and just disabled, so buying and installing one is completely uneccesary.
You are correct that most motherboards that have a TPM 2.0 header usually have the software CPU implementation. I have heard from a few people that the BIOS on their motherboards is buggy and installing the hardware module works better. I haven’t experienced this myself, but given how buggy (and abandoned) some manufacturers leave their BIOSs, it doesn’t surprise me.

I’m surprised an AIO doesn’t have TPM. I used to have some clients that always bought AIOs. Most of the time, I had to buy a whole new unit when there was a major issue or they needed to upgrade. One model I installed had upgradable RAM but that was it. They did make for a clean work area and my clients always had fancy mice and keyboards hooked to them.
Hey guys, the video was super helpful! The only thing, it might be user error idk, but when I plug in the new tpm I got on Amazon my pc won’t start up, at all. Unplug it and it starts immediately. Did I just get a bunk product?
I found out the hard way that even if the generic ones you get on amazon have the correct amount of pins, they can still be incompatible if the pinout is different. Make sure you check the diagram from the listing and compare it to the diagram in your motherboard's user manual
From looking at the manual for your board, it is a TPM 14-1, so yes it *should* be the exact same one I used. Note that I have not actually tried it with a Tuf Z370 Pro Gaming board, but it’s the same manufacturer (Asus), chipset, and TPM pin out so I’m 95% sure it’ll work. Let me know if you try it and it works.
@@JerryTravisSmith good news, I installed the tpm 14-1 today and it was immediately recognized. However, I ran PC health and it says I am good to go for Windows 11, but it says windows 11 isn't available yet for all windows 10 pc's and I didn't get an option to download the windows 11 update.
@@louismaniscalco1389 I’m glad the TPM worked. I have heard of machines where you still can’t upgrade because there is at least one device on the machine is not fully supported. I figure it MS can’t get their own hardware fully supported at launch that any of us that have a fully supported machine are just lucky! Do you have any expansion cards beyond what’s built in to the motherboard?
No. Different motherboard manufacturers have different chips. And often, a single manufacturer (e.g. Asus) may have different chips for different models of their own board. Your motherboard manual will tell you which one that’s compatible with your model.
I got it on Amazon and paid around $70 for it (I think). I tried going through some other suppliers who had it closer to the normal MSRP of about $25, but they always cancelled my order after a few days saying they were unable to fulfill the order because the factories were unable to make enough chips. This was all right around the pandemic. I think a lot of the supply shortage has subsided.
I bought a PC with Windows 11 already installed and I have been having weird bugs with it for a while now and it hasn't been able to do one of the updates so after a bunch of research I realized it doesn't have a TPM installed lol
I got it on Amazon. I should have included the link to it in the description: amzn.to/3iRzEQ6 Make sure you consult your manual if you don’t have the same board as me. I believe Asus has used 3-4 different TPM pin outs over the years.
@@connerscott249 I can’t say for certain they’re all the same, but I think if the TPM is for your brand of motherboard and the pin out is the same it should work. I saw somewhere the actual chip on these is almost exclusively manufactured by Infineon. The TPM I used indeed had an Infineon chip on it. As for the price differences, I think that’s a supply and demand issue. Almost nobody bought these things before. They were $5-$8 I think. When some people figured out Windows 11 required TPM, they bought them all up and jacked up the price. I paid $37 for mine. The $60-$80 price tag is just straight-up scalping.
I highly doubt it. TPMs are very vendor specific. To be honest, I didn't even know Samsung made PCs. What model number is your PC or motherboard? I may be able to help you find something.

Either my CPU or motherboard doesn’t have that feature. I looked through every option in my BIOS and there was nothing pertaining to PTT or Trusted Computing. The manual made no mention of it either, other than the TPM header.
I was actually just installing it to do some benchmarks to see how it did on 12th gen Intel chips. I don’t like it over 10 either. That said, I’ll be supporting 11 for years to come whether I like it or not so I use it on some machines just so I’m not blindsided by tech support questions.

@@JerryTravisSmith I know this, but my ftpm is a buggy mess so I am looking in to investing in a proper dtpm in order to hopefully fix a few issues, improve performance, and future proof my system ready for when I eventually upgrade my CPU
Ah I see. I have heard some folks say software TPM is buggy but I haven't experienced it myself.
Thank you! audio volumes are all over the place...
Hi may asrock motherboard has a 'TPMS1' is that the same as your motherboards TPM?
No. The TPM I used is for an Asus board. You will need one that is for Asrock
Uhhh my computer wont turn on. When I installed the tpm it turns on for a split second, and then turns off. When I take the tpm out, my computer works perfectly normally. I updated my bios and that didn't fix anything... Someone please help.
Does it turn on just from putting in the TPM or do you have to hit the power button?
@@JerryTravisSmith it doesn’t turn on at all when I put it in
@@JerryTravisSmith but when I take it out my computer turns on
@@coltmccoy1195 This is just a guess because I can’t see your setup but…The TPM module could be bad or need to have its BIOS flashed to a newer version. (I’ve never flashed a TPM BIOS but I have seen forum posts where users have had to do it to get their modules working.) Given how hard they are to come by, I’m assuming you don’t have another TPM to try.
Or it could be the wrong module for your board. I think there are incompatible modules with the same connector key.
Sorry this is so vague but this is difficult thing to troubleshoot with limited details.
@@JerryTravisSmith I already returned it
GIGABYTE B550M DS3H AM4 AMD B550 Micro-ATX Motherboard with Dual M.2, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 1, PCIe 4.0 This is the motherboard i have. will that chip work on my board or will i need to buy a whole new board
According to this manual that appears to be for your motherboard (download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_b550m-ds3h-ac_e_1201.pdf), you need a GC-TPM2.0_S module. There are some on Amazon but they appear to be aftermarket and I personally wouldn’t trust them.
@@JerryTravisSmith so basically I would need a new mother board
@@jakeuchiha9540 It would probably be cheaper. The least shady-looking TPM on Amazon was $150 and I don’t think it would trust it. Before all the price gouging, most TPM modules were between $20-35. Sadly, it’s not the case now that TPM is not optional.
@@JerryTravisSmith well damn I built my first pc last year didn’t know I would need to upgrade. I haven’t tried upgrading parts yet. Am able to just unplug in one and plug in on another? Sorry I know I’m asking a lot of questions still new to this.
@@jakeuchiha9540 give me a couple hours. I’ll do some more research on your board when I get to some stable internet. You may be able to enable firmware TPM. It just depends on your board, your BIOS, and your CPU.
I have an Optiplex 3010 MT (h61 motherboard), can I add a TPM 2.0 in it?
Go here www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132583/dell-systems-that-can-upgrade-from-tpm-version-1-2-to-2-0 and try following the steps. I had a bunch of 3010s that got destroyed by flooding a month ago. If that hadn’t happened I could have tried it to let you know for sure.
@@JerryTravisSmith Thanks a lot!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Which Tpm do you recommend for optiplex 9020 q87 Dell motherboard?
what if the attacker also pull it out will the aim be defeated ?
At this point I guess I should just get a new pc (because my pc is an AIO if it wasn't I'd swap the motherboard or add the tpm module like you did) l
Or will that chip that’s in this video work with my motherboard
I installed my TPM chip and now my pc won’t turn on. Do you know what happened?
If you remove the TPM, will it turn on now?
Does an TMP 2.0 card fit
into a PCI Slot?
As far as I know, TPM modules always plug directly into a header on the motherboard.
I have a Tuf Z370 Pro Gaming Computer, do you know if this TPM Module is compatible.
@@JerryTravisSmith I called Asus and they said it is the right chip so I should be okay. Thank you for responding so quickly.
@@louismaniscalco1389 Excellent to hear!
One version of the Microsoft Surface laptops had to wait 6 months or more to get one of the Windows 10 Updates (maybe 21H1). I figure it MS can’t get their own hardware fully supported at launch that any of us that have a fully supported machine are just lucky! Do you have any expansion cards beyond what’s built in to the motherboard?
just wanted to say thanks Great video great demonstration great info. much appreciated
Thanks for the compliment!
Can that TPM chip be used in all Intel MBs?
No. Different motherboard manufacturers have different chips. And often, a single manufacturer (e.g. Asus) may have different chips for different models of their own board. Your motherboard manual will tell you which one that’s compatible with your model.
To suport procesor core i3 gen 3xxx ? Not ?
Can you reply to this with the site where you got it from please?
I got it on Amazon and paid around $70 for it (I think). I tried going through some other suppliers who had it closer to the normal MSRP of about $25, but they always cancelled my order after a few days saying they were unable to fulfill the order because the factories were unable to make enough chips. This was all right around the pandemic. I think a lot of the supply shortage has subsided.
I bought a PC with Windows 11 already installed and I have been having weird bugs with it for a while now and it hasn't been able to do one of the updates so after a bunch of research I realized it doesn't have a TPM installed lol
They forced installed a Windows 11 on your newly bought PC?
@djm5936 yeah, that's how it seems I had gotten a cyberpower pc
Support Asus z370p ii prime?
Most useful video yet, thank you. Where did you get that TPM from, can you send a link for it?
I got it on Amazon. I should have included the link to it in the description: amzn.to/3iRzEQ6
Make sure you consult your manual if you don’t have the same board as me. I believe Asus has used 3-4 different TPM pin outs over the years.
@@JerryTravisSmith thanks, one more thing… are they all the same, some of them are $20, and some are $60, just want to make sure I get the right one
Use Rufus to create win 11 bootable media to bypass the pre checks
You don't even need this piece in the BIOS
if this gets unpluged what happens to my pc? 😅
I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think your Windows installation would boot.
salut ta video ma permis d activer tpm et bien le bracher merci
Bloody tmp I have to change mine
But my pc is Samsung electronics will it work on that if I buy one of Amazon
I highly doubt it. TPMs are very vendor specific. To be honest, I didn't even know Samsung made PCs. What model number is your PC or motherboard? I may be able to help you find something.
nice thank-you for the video.
Appreciate it!
@@JerryTravisSmith most motherboards now, don't even require the TPM module, just the switch in bios, but you did that too, so you had the answer! haha! cheers.
Thanks Jer bear!

you dont need tpm to install Windows 11
2:17 I count 13 pins... Jerry what's wrong with me :( ?
If you watch just past that, I corrected my mistake. 😆 Talking on camera and making sure the lighting and shots are good is difficult.
@@JerryTravisSmith I wish you mentioned the 20-1 TPM module also, they are out there.
Yep good job. I built 3 computers two Christmases ago with just about everything but this. So when it said needs upgrade to install Windows 11 I thought no way. This is just more junk in the way but it is good technology if it works.

Well presented. Tnx
thank you
2:46.. AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!.. That M.2 cover screw tho.. 😬
Yikes. You’re right! That’s terrible!
Why? You can just enable the Firmware TPM in your CPU
Either my CPU or motherboard doesn’t have that feature. I looked through every option in my BIOS and there was nothing pertaining to PTT or Trusted Computing. The manual made no mention of it either, other than the TPM header.
@@JerryTravisSmith
buy 8 th gen PC for TPM 2
Seems cpu tpm is causing stutters on the ryzens processors.
You could’ve always downloaded tiny 11
It would be a lot easier to just install Linux. Windows 11 is not worth the TPM 2.0 requirement, especially if a system doesn't already have it.
anticheats want it
You sound so peachy
Good nerd? Windows 11 sucks. A bad nerd wants it. A good nerd wants it gone.
I was actually just installing it to do some benchmarks to see how it did on 12th gen Intel chips.
I don’t like it over 10 either. That said, I’ll be supporting 11 for years to come whether I like it or not so I use it on some machines just so I’m not blindsided by tech support questions.
