When I was just 6 or 7 years old, my dad would take me to San Pedro Harbor as part of the occasional “Sunday Drive” with my mom. I remember how fascinating these enormous ships were. There was so much mystery surrounding what it must have been like to work on one, traveling to the far corners of the earth. Thank you for your videos! Not only are they so interesting, they also bring back those great memories from so long ago.
That is so awesome. Thank you for sharing that, and thank you so much for watching. It is funny because when I was a little boy, I remember looking at the ocean and seeing the ships as well and wondering what it was like to be there.😎🚢⚓️🌊
A perfect video Jeff. You captured the day to day of a mariner. Busy but boring all at the same time. Neat to see the southern tip of Africa. You definitely have a good motion going with the ship Rocking you to sleep for a few days. Long voyage. Hats off to you. Thanks again. I miss the wide open ocean.
Lol, yes a lot of people don't realize we work long hours and we work 7 days a week but we often work when the ship is rolling around like that which adds a whole different dimension... the job is definitely not for most people....😎🚢🌊⚓️ Thank you for watching Carol and taking time to comment as always I appreciate it
These are my favourite videos of yours. Show a bit of work, scenery, work… great flow and keeps us watching. Need to show more of the food though! Haha excellent video brother!!
Yes it seems like people are resonating with this style of video so I will try to continue making more just like this and I already have footage showing the food I just need to put together some video
I have footage of sunrises and sunsets a lot of people ask me to post another video like that it's been a while since I did it but I will try to do it again soon with some relaxing music
Yes it adds another challenge, lol. All part of the adventure 😎 How your day is or was a great one. I am about finished the next vlog and will post soon after edit is saved
I have some more footage of sunrises and sunsets if there is enough I will try to put a short video together with some relaxing music like I did a year or two ago😎🚢🌊⚓️
When the Suez is open, only a few ships make the trip around the Cape of Good Hope. I’d love to make the trip myself. It’s one of those bucket list items.
Now those injector covers.... they need to be painted orange with black lettering that says: 'Jeffs Condom" .... yea, I reckon back in the old days we would have done that :) Nice job, but three screws please and wingnuts on the bolts :)
Oh yes I wanted to use Wing nuts but we did not have any. Yes that would be awesome but we're not allowed to joke nowadays we might offend someone and hurt their feelings🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jeff, with the high fire risk of welding, what precautions are taken on the ship to ensure fire doesn’t take hold? It would be interesting to see a video of safety precautions with daily engineering tasks. Thanks
There are several things you do including having a fire extinguisher nearby making sure there is nothing flammable nearby and having a fire watch nearby with you. Things can also be covered with fire blankets if you have to do a job near something but generally jobs I have done on most ships are normally around nothing but steel. If you are welding on a bulkhead you would have someone on the other side just to make sure everything was okay. These are a few examples of some safety precautions you could take when welding
At 3:03 there is some kind of communications device behind you. I've seen them but I don't know anything about them. I would like to hear about them if you can- the various lights, methods of communication aboard ship, etc.
What you saw is a tower with different lights and alarm lights on it so basically when there is an alarm you can see what light is flashing and an indication of what the alarm topic is like a general alarm or a fire alarm etcetera. There is even a different color flashing light for when the phone is ringing
I'm getting caught up on the videos. Thanks for posting! This one really gives me a good idea of how a typical day-to-day goes. Pretty cool! What is the pure fire room? Where does the fuel go that is going through the strainers that you cleaned?
Do you find it eerie when you go out and about on deck and especially under deck on your own? I remember in the good old days when I used to be a stevedore working alone lashing on underdecks on my own was quite a weird feeling.
I prefer being along. It never made me feel weird at all it's actually more relaxing to me.😎🚢🌊⚓️ I mean if you go somewhere alone or below decks alone you always notify someone and then notify them when you are out
When I was in Mexico last year I had a great time in Veracruz I love it there but yes there are still issues of Somali piracy, but in some years past it was worse but it is still an issue. I heard there were still 30 plus incidents in the first quarter of the year
I really enjoy seeing all the little tasks and everyday activities you perform. It's very Interesting to see how much fabrication you do yourself onboard! With the fuel injectors is this something that you are expected to do for transporting them or did you see a potential risk and rectify it? - Greetings from Tasmania!
Thank you for watching that video and taking time to make a comment and basically the covers I made for the fuel injectors that is something that most shifts just have and it's great to have those just to protect it rather than take a chance. If you don't use them you would just have to be a little extra careful but it's nice to have and it was not hard to make at all it was very easy😎🚢🌊⚓️
I have been physically seen any but I was on a ship one time where the security team saw some in the distance but when they saw the security team I believe they just turned the other way
Yes that is why the ships go around the Cape of Good Hope now to avoid the dangerous area and the Suez Canal. Hopefully this will not continue forever because it takes so much longer😎🚢🌊⚓️
On the channel go in the help topics playlist and I have videos in there that tell you how to get documents and how to start in the career and then feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. My email is posted on the channel
GOOD DAY TO YOU JEFF..SEE YOU MENTIONED STARLINK,YES I'VE BEEN ON SEVERAL VESSELS WITH IT AND SO FAR HAVE HAD NO ISSUES.. AS FOR THE ROLLING I THOUGHT YOUR SHIP HAD FINS TO HELP STABILITY..LET ME KNOW IF SHE HAS FINS OR IS THAT JUST ON SOME OF THE OTHER MAERSK SHIPS.. AND AS ALWAYS ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO..
That sea blowing in the background is ABSOLUTE HEAVEN’S MUSIC
I love when the sea mist hits the face...😎🚢🌊⚓️

I miss the wide open ocean.
We have a saying out at sea "boring is good" lol😎🚢⚓️🌊
Beautiful sunrise over the ocean. You can keep the ship rolling! 😂
Lol, yes a lot of people don't realize we work long hours and we work 7 days a week but we often work when the ship is rolling around like that which adds a whole different dimension... the job is definitely not for most people....😎🚢🌊⚓️

Good to see ya again jeff! I hope your able to put out as much as is possible...Thanks man! God bless!
God bless you as well, and I have a lot of footage to edit
Jeff, an interesting and very informative video! Thanks!
Well thank you so much for the input and positive comment...much appreciated.😎🚢🌊⚓️
Nice insight into what you do. Thanks!
Well thank you so much for the positive feedback😎🚢🌊⚓️

Damn. That sunrise @ 13:25 is 👌
I have footage of sunrises and sunsets a lot of people ask me to post another video like that it's been a while since I did it but I will try to do it again soon with some relaxing music
Love this vid Jeff, you have excellent engineering skills, very impressive 🇺🇸🇬🇧🍺❤️
I'm just a normal smeghead 😎🚢🌊⚓️
Checking for alarms in the bow the one thing that could have saved or prevented the Derbyshire disaster. Maintenance saves lives good work
Yes I agree maintenance and preventive things are always very good to do
I’m glad you’re back with the work videos.
Yes but it's not always possible to make those because a lot of times you are far too busy working to do it.... when doing Simple jobs it's easy
Magnificent Jeff, a bit of everything. It must be hard to work in that rolling motion, depending on what you're doing of course. Be safe.
Yes it adds another challenge, lol. All part of the adventure 😎
How your day is or was a great one. I am about finished the next vlog and will post soon after edit is saved
Some absolutely beautiful sunrise's you recorded..NICE!
I have some more footage of sunrises and sunsets if there is enough I will try to put a short video together with some relaxing music like I did a year or two ago😎🚢🌊⚓️

What trip are you talking about the Cape of Good Hope or the Suez Canal
Liked that one Jeff been around the Cape many times you get some good rollers down there where the two oceans meet
Oh yeah Kenneth....thanks for watching and dropping in to comment.😎🚢🌊⚓️
I like your intro music
It is from the service I use for licensing...Epidemic Sounds
Another job well done. Well it’s done 😊
Yup, time to relax a bit. 😎🚢🌊⚓️

I definitely need to look into this profession. It seems like an amazing job.
Plenty of information on the channel here and there is my email posted above on the channel if you feel free you can contact me anytime
nice mate
Thank you so much as always Rodney thank you for your comment and I hope you enjoy the video...

The purifiers just do that they purify the oil or the fuel and I was cleaning the suction strainer to the purifier
Do you find it eerie when you go out and about on deck and especially under deck on your own?
I remember in the good old days when I used to be a stevedore working alone lashing on underdecks on my own was quite a weird feeling.

Are there really 3 injectors per cylinder!?? I really like this kind of video thank you for sharing!
That is correct each cylinder has three fuel injectors...😎🚢🌊⚓️
Hi Jeff, Somalía pirates are they no longer a danger?
Greetings from México!
When I was in Mexico last year I had a great time in Veracruz I love it there but yes there are still issues of Somali piracy, but in some years past it was worse but it is still an issue. I heard there were still 30 plus incidents in the first quarter of the year
Very Good. Thank you.
What is the longest you stayed at sea?
On a ship 7 months, but huge part of it in European ports. It was awesome.
I really enjoy seeing all the little tasks and everyday activities you perform. It's very Interesting to see how much fabrication you do yourself onboard! With the fuel injectors is this something that you are expected to do for transporting them or did you see a potential risk and rectify it?

Keep up the videos Jeff, really enjoy a peek into your world. One question. Have you ever seen any Somali pirates out there?
I have been physically seen any but I was on a ship one time where the security team saw some in the distance but when they saw the security team I believe they just turned the other way
Did the ship go around the Cape of Good Hope to avoid the Houtis that are attacking ships?
Yes that is why the ships go around the Cape of Good Hope now to avoid the dangerous area and the Suez Canal. Hopefully this will not continue forever because it takes so much longer😎🚢🌊⚓️
What’s your job title Jeff? I’d like to do this. I can already weld and fab. Been doing that for 7 years now. I already have my TWIC too
On the channel go in the help topics playlist and I have videos in there that tell you how to get documents and how to start in the career and then feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. My email is posted on the channel
Jeff, How long do you usually stay on a ship?
2.5-3 months or so
Jeff love all of your videos brother!! How well does the Star-link work when your out to sea? Would you say you can use it 80% of the time or better?
Honestly the internet works great and I would say far more than 80%. I would say it was working over 95% of the time to be honest with you.😎🚢🌊⚓️
GOOD DAY TO YOU JEFF..SEE YOU MENTIONED STARLINK,YES I'VE BEEN ON SEVERAL VESSELS WITH IT AND SO FAR HAVE HAD NO ISSUES..
AS FOR THE ROLLING I THOUGHT YOUR SHIP HAD FINS TO HELP STABILITY..LET ME KNOW IF SHE HAS FINS OR IS THAT JUST ON SOME OF THE OTHER MAERSK SHIPS..
AND AS ALWAYS ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO..
Yes the ship I was on had fin stabilizers but the ship was just rolling I think there was a lot of swells
