I have been listening to this song right from childhood and have never failed to be mesmerized by the beauty of its composition. The rendering has been equally masterful. What a masterpiece for all future generations to relish!!
Original versions in Tamil and Telugu were superb. The Hindi version is good but original is the best. Sung by P Susheela and Gantasala. Both Lata and Rafi were mesmerised by the original.
We tend to compare because same song is composed in three language by same MD. That's ok, is fun and we have our biases and favorites. But we respect all. All three are classics that'll live forever! All singers involved are legends. Jikki, Lataji, PS and Ghantasala, Rafi Saheb. We are blessed to be able to hear this. It is a testimony to our diversity as well as the common thread that links us all. It you notice Rao Garu gives extra time and more aalap for Lataji unlike Jikki who he somewhat protects by using Ghantasala more. He's clever. In fact the Hindi version almost entirely belongs to LM whereas the Telugu is reverse! Tamil one imho the honors are even.
